Questions & Answers

How come no one from the manufacturer ever answers these questions on the Home Depot page?

Answer This Question

The description at the top says that the fork is made of one piece boron steel; the photo shows an all steel fork with a one piece steel handle. However in the "more details" the handle is described as ash and, later, as wood. Which is it?

Answer This Question

The product description mentions a few different materials. To clarify: * **Tines:** The tines of the broad fork are made from hardened boron steel. This ensures they are strong and durable for breaking up the soil. * **Handle:** The handle is crafted from European Ash hardwood. This type of wood is known for its strength and flexibility, allowing the tool to bend under pressure without breaking. It appears there's a discrepancy in the detailed description regarding the handle material. The correct information is that the handle is made of European Ash hardwood.

Does this break up clay soil?
ByNov 13, 2017
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Yes, the Grelinette Broad Fork is specifically designed to break up tough soil, including clay. Its strong, forged tines can penetrate and lift compacted clay, improving aeration and drainage. The long handle provides leverage, making the task easier than using a traditional digging fork.

I had to return this item because it is too...
I had to return this item because it is too large for what I needed but I could tell it would be an excellent soil tiller or aerator. AND the ends are pointed enough that they would break hard compacted soil without much effort other than your foot. I needed something for a NYC street tree pit and this was just too large but if they had a smaller version I would be all over it. :)

    PERFECT
This is the single best garden/farm tool I've owned. I used it to convert more than 1000 linear feet of clayish, compressed earth into new growing beds. I was concerned the tines would bend or distort, but, when I encounter big rockes or very, very hard clay, I just use it at 5" intervals rather than 12". I am a 58 year old woman, 5'4" and was beyond thrilled to find a super lightweight tool that I can use to quickly create new beds and aerate the old beds with no injury to my back or shoulders. And, the two bar foot stand makes it much easier to balance than the average broadfork.

I had a 500 square foot area of hard-packed soil that I need to loosen and aerate to plant a lawn. This broad fork worked great, and was easy to use.
