I used these screws on composite fencing. I installed this fencing as decorative facade, along the underside perimeter of my deck. These screws matched the color, came with star-bit, (bit is magnetized) in the box and screwed in easily with my Ryobi hammer drill. (Also bought at Home Depot). I did pre-drill the holes and that made for easier and quicker installation. Screw length was perfect for this composite fencing. This was a project done right. Met my expectations.

Hi and thank you for your recent review. While using an impact drill is fine, we recommend to make sure your impact is torqued appropriately.

love these!
These are great especially when used in Composite decking as they are intended. Please ignore the 1 star review as the obvious reason the guy is a former Professional GC and Engineer is that he can't identify simple building materials their correct usage since he decided to use these in various wood decking (which they are clearly not intended for) instead of composite. The head sinks in nice and flush with the top of the composite decking and do not bulge around the screw head like other composite deck screws.

I used these screws for cedar fencing, plywood and any wood which I felt would split like 1"x4" furring strips. They seat and hold well without splitting the material. They are a bit expensive and wished Home Depot or anyone else for that matter carried them in 5 lb packages.

I am a former professional licensed GC and Engineering contractor. Purchased several boxes of 1lb and 5lb of these for the first time in lengths from 1 5/8 to 3 1/2. Worse than useless. 1. No holding power at all in cedar with or against grain. It appears to be that the threads' pitch or other dimension cause the screw to drill into the wood rather than 'screw'. Not much improvement in holding power in damp PT. Slightly better in dry PT. 2. The T20 head is both too shallow and with rounded internal shoulders making it very hard to seat the bit AND easy for it to spin out. The bits last me only about 20 screws just using a battery cordless driver. I saved myself some money by taking my diamond Dremel disk and sanding down the bits twice. Also, a number of the screws had too thick coating inside the heads - also causing a waste of time to wiggle the bit down and trying to seat it. 3. It appears that these are actually made outside the USA and have a metric diameter. Even the 1 5/8 diameter is a tight fit into metal framing connectors and as soon as it hits the final thread qroup, bogs down and the bit spins out. A lot of the fastening takes place at locations and angles where I could not put a lot of force on the driver to keep the bit in the head. This is much less a problem with Phillips type heads because the angle of drining between the head and bit and the head is much less critical. 4. The supplies bits are much softer than aftermarket bits. Yes, bits must be a little softer than the screw, but subjectively, it seems much much softer. Twenty to thirty screws per bit when bits are $1.49 in singles can drive up the total cost of a box of screws by 20%. Probably by design just like the fact that you can usually buy a new ink jet printer for less than the cost of the refill ink.
