Crappy nails that rust

High failure rate!!!!
DO NOT BUY DECKMATE!!! They will break at the slightest movement of wood. Failure rate is alarming!!! Home Depot should know better than to sell such crappy screws!

Rusted after 2 years
Over half of the screws have rusted and stained the deck boards. Deck is 2 years old! Guaranteed for the lifetime of your project as stated in the product overview and written on the box. Problem is it's up to the store manager to do something about it.
Dang, Deck Mate your project life expectancy has really dropped. They did screw something alright!

Easily broken
I was told by the hardware associate that these screws were the best screws HD sold. 1 year later, I'm checking my deck screws and find that 1 out of 30 screws has snapped in half in the wood. I'm willing to bet the manufacturer won't assist me to get this resolved.

“improved” veraion is useless
“Improved” version absolutely sucks. It’s horrible, does not pull the two pieces of wood together. The screw just keeps spinning. Bring back the old version, which was perfect!!!
If you want to pre-drill every hole, buy it, otherwise look at other brands. I am so disappointed as I bought a lot of them and I used to rave about this screw using it for everything outdoors and indoors. Picture shows “improved” version on left, with different thread pattern that does not create a tight connection anymore.

Screws do not countersink in Composite deck boards
I purchased these screws when building a handicapped ramp using composite deck boards. On the box at Home Depot, it says “for all exterior material applications.” I assumed they would be fine for composite decking. All of the screws mushroomed and only about 30% of them countersunk. Because of a time constraint, I had to continue to install all 650 screws. Now as I’m looking on line to see if I chose wisely, I see the packaging says for “wood deck” boards. I chose poorly based on the packaging.
I have to go back to the job and remove the screws, bore out the mushrooming and replace all the screws. Not to mention needing to buy more screws and throw away $49 worth of screws on a Pro Bono handicapped ramp. Very disappointed.

ABSOLUTE JUNK
These are the absolute WORST SCREWS I have ever used. They break post installation, usually at the top of the threads. The deck boards were pre-drilled with a drill guide, and each screw was installed with a DeWalt drill, stopping just short of the surface, then countersunk by hand with a 1/4" ratchet. Fortunately I was only on the third row, when I notice a screw on the first row sticking up slightly. I tried to snug it down, and it just spun. I checked all the other screws on that row, and to my horror, found 13 out of 36 broke. I researched, and found multiple articles going back over 10 YEARS about these screws breaking !! I returned them, and bought S.S. 305 Grip-Rites, which I should have done to start with. Stay very far away from this junk.
