Yes, I in fact cut a number of these to match the slightly shorter length needed for my stair rails.

I used these with wooden frames on 13 sections around my deck. It is very important to get the height correct to allow for shrinkage and expansion. Only one section separated and it was because the run was too long. After a heavy winter the snow actually caused the bottom wood frame to bend thus separating the balusters. I corrected it by installing a brace in the middle of the run to support the bottom frame.

In the second photo it shows a scroll pattern on the rails, I can't find them to purchase. What i...

Dear Kathy, I apologize for the picture showing a baluster with scroll pattern; that product is not available through Home Depot. As an alternative, Model #74759 (in black), a scrolled baluster centerpiece, might work, or model #74760 (in bronze), another centerpiece, might appeal to you. Best of luck with this.

Will these ever be back in stock?

Hi Sue. You will need to check with your local Home Depot. They will be able to answer that question for you.

How are balasters attached to rail

Asked by AK February 22, 2020

If you are using wood rails top and bottom the balusters are attached by use of a small plastic part that screws onto the wood railing, both top and bottom. Notice the bag in the picture. There are connectors for both horizontal rails and stair rails included. If you are using only for stairs you may have to purchase additional additional stair rail connectors. I had some stairs and mostly straight and the distribution was almost perfect. The way these connectors work is you determine your spacing of the balusters on the railing and then attach the connectors by way of a screw which holds them secure to the wood railing. The baluster then fits over the round connector and butts against a stop which is about .125" from the railing. These are also black so they do not really show and work perfectly. For horizontal rails you use straight connectors and for stair rails you use angled connectors. If you have a lot of these rails and connectors it is a job screwing the connectors onto the rail, and getting the spacing correct can be an issue. I took some aluminum angle about 8 feet long and marked and drilled this angle for use as a template. Then when I wanted to attach the connectors to the rail all I had to do was determine where the first baluster would go and pre-drill a hole there. Then I put the aluminum angle over the rail with the first pre-drilled hole lining up where the first balluster goes. Then I attached the angle to the wood at the very first location by way of screwing it to the rail using the hole drilled in the wood where the first baluster goes. Now I had a template on the wood with drilled holes and all I had to do was hold the angle against the rail where the angle would fit the edge of the rail and I could pre-drill all the holes for that rail with no measuring. I used the same spacing for all the balusters and if the rail was slightly shorter or longer I adjusted by changing the distance to the upright post. This way I only had to measure once to make the template and the rest was already done, just attach the template and drill where the holes are. If you only have a few to do this may not be worth your while but I had approximately 150 balusters to attach and you need to drill and attach the connectors to top and bottom rails so 300 drill holes. Obviously, you pre-drill the holes smaller than the screw and it went together very easily. When attaching the connectors, pay attention to make sure you drill in at the right angle for the connector or attaching the balusters can be difficult. For horizontal rails that is 90 degrees from the rail and for the stair rails I belie the angle is about 36 degrees. It is not too hard, just pay attention and drill parallel to how your balusters will run. I also built a jig to set the rails in to I could lift the bottom rail with balusters inserted over the connectors upwards and connect to the top rail. I could do this by myself and it works fine. When the baluster is over the connector you will raise or lower one rail to decrease the distance between the top and bottom rails to be the length of the balusters.(I chose to raise it as it seemed easier) and when you get the balusters tight they are contained to the rail because the connectors are inside the hollow tube. They look great and it is amazing how the black balusters make the deck look bigger because you kind of see right past them and your eye is not stopped by the balusters. I think you will like them. If you have any other on how I built the jig or installed please let me know and I can answer them. Terry

Great value, easy DIY project
Couldn’t be happier with these balusters! For about $120 I was able to build railing in a couple hours for our loft. I had recieved quotes for $2000 for custom steel railing with a 1-2 week lead time. After building an entire home myself, these balusters are one of the best values I’ve found.

Sharp looking deck rail balusters that install very easily, even on angled stairways. I want to mention up front that it is easiest if you can use the full 26" length without cutting. Although you can cut these to size, it just makes the job more difficult. Try to find an application to install them to length. Installing is easy. The instructions give good guidance on setting a square against both rails clamped together to mark the attachment points. This makes for good plumb balusters. The kit comes with both square and angled holders. The angled holders are made for railings from 30 to 35 degrees. My railing was 28.5 degrees. It worked, but just barely. I think the 30 to 35 recommendation is good. These look super sharp and everyone comments positively on them. They think I cut my own tube and drilled holes to hold them. I have to point out the hardware to show how easy it was.

The posts worked great for updating my old railing system. They were easy to install, even though I only used the adapters on the bottom. I had to drill 3/4' inch holes, 1 " deep into a 2x4 at the top of the balusters. I did this to match my existing height rail system (35") and to have the 2x4 for support for my top deck rail board. We decided to run the posts to the decking without the bottom board, because we liked the simpler lines and was easier to install. It took extra time prepping the upper boards with the holes, but the install on the deck took less than 2 hours for over 30 feet of railing (not including the top board install). I used a chalk line and marked 4.5 inch spacing, installed adapters, inserted posts into top board, lined up over adapters and done.

Just finished a small deck and opted to achieve a different look with the DeckoRail 3/4" round balusters. I'm very pleased with the appearance and the ease of installation. I ordered 2 sets and both had all the hardware necessary to install. I'll use these again on another deck next year.
