Questions & Answers

Will metal/aluminum 4x4 post kit work with the rail brackets?

Trying to decide whether wood posts are needed or if aluminum kits with vinyl sleeve could work.
Asked by: NiasLoft
I presume if you use an anchor it could. Plastic u shaped brackets screw into post and rail to hold in place. Left, right, and top bottom.

Can the balusters be painted white? If yes, how would you suggest doing this?

Can the balusters be painted white? If yes, how would you suggest doing this?
Asked by: Miah
Yes they can. You can get a high quality exterior spray enamel and paint them before installation or get a high quality exterior latex house paint and brush them before or after installation. Will take several coats for proper coverage.

Can the yellow pine be painted or has it been treated with a sealant already?

Asked by: SteveJP
The yellow pine in this rail kit can be painted. This wood is kiln dried, so you should be able to paint it upon arrival, however, you should still do the water drop test to make sure. Drip a few drops of water onto the wood you are testing. If the water beads up on the surface of the wood, it means that the moisture content is still too high for the wood to accept a sealant. If the water droplets wick into the board, then it is ready to accept a sealant. If the water beads up on the wood, please give the wood some more time to dry out.
