Q:Can this b use on fabrics
by|Jan 19, 2019

Answer This Question

A:  Yes, this product can be used on fabrics.

by|Jan 28, 2019

A:  I have never tried using chalk paint on fabric. The container said this paint is "ideal for use on furniture, cabinets, walls, decorative glass, metal, and more." None of those are anything like fabric, so my guess would be "no".

    by|Jan 23, 2019

A:  Yes, it can...but only for decorative purposes only, like a throw pillow or place mat, etc. It cannot be washed and will dry hard, so it is not flexible like an actual fabric paint. -DecoArt Paint Guru

Q:Can this paint be used to paint furniture cushions?

      Answer This Question

A:  Chris, You can use Chalky Finish to paint fabrics, but only for decorative purposes (handbags, decorative throw pillows, placemats, wall hangings, etc). It will adhere to the cushions, but will make them hard when the paint dries and will crack when used. This paint is not formulated to be flexible when dry. DecoArt Paint Guru

Q:Is it possible to use cream colored chalk paint over a cherrywood color electric fireplace?

          Answer This Question

A:  Yes, but it will take 2 coats for sure. The dining table I painted was actually a cherry veneer that didn't match the new home we moved into...which we then had professionally repainted black (which started peeling off pretty quickly to reveal the veneer) so I had to do something, and fast, so I tried the Americana Decor Primitive (along with a couple of other colors as you'll see in the image)...it took 2 coats without sanding and has lasted longer than the "professional" job. Go for it!

          by|Jul 11, 2018

A:  That's a great question...The Primitive Chalky finish would cover the Cherrywood finish, but would caution you that it is not heat resistant. If there is a great deal of heat generated from the fireplace, it may discolor the paint over time. If the heat is minimal, it should be fine - however, since we're unsure of the heat level, we cannot guarantee that it will work. -DecoArt Paint Guru

Durable and quality product, for sure! Four years ago I painted a dining room set (previously solid black) along with 5 matching bar chairs in this brand of chalk paint, mostly using this color "Primitive", which is almost an antique white-ish. I'm a fan of texture and the brush I used on the tabletop helped to give it a linen look finish...the other colors used on this specific table are all Americana Decor Chalk Paint. My husband helped tape off the lines and chevron pattern on the top of the table and was tickled there was no pre-sanding to be done with this particular type and brand of (chalk) paint...2 coats and done (with a polyacryilic topcoat to protect from water spots and stuff).I've done several other projects using Americana Decor as it's up there in my top 3 brands!

Great paint! I painted over the maple finish on an old desk and it was great not to have to strip the finish. Added the Americana wax for protection.

Do NOT buy this paint! Tried this on a smaller 3 drawer dresser. Did not adhere to furniture at all. Had to start completely over with an oil based primer to get paint to stick. Terrible and blotchy coverage. After buying and using one 16 oz. container and another 8 oz. container, coverage was still blotchy. Wasted a lot of my time and money trying to use this paint. I ended up spending even more $$ buying a different green paint and making my own chalk paint. Wish I could get a refund for money wasted on this product.

I absolutely love this paint. It's easy to use and clean up, goes on smoothly and a 16 oz jar covers a lot of space. I used the Decoart Golden Brown Wax with this paint and love the results! It was a little scary when I first used it because once it dried, the color was like a bright Caribbean blue but once I added the wax, it mellowed the color out drastically. I used a Decoart stencil that I found in my local HD to add some interest. I've alread finished an entertainment center, a table and a cabinet for my living room, and am now looking into other colors to paint my kitchen table!

                Beautiful blueish gray chalk paint
I love this color. I bought it in the smaller container, and want to use it elsewhere in my house, so decided to buy the larger container. It is a very nice gray, that has more blue than green in it. Absolutely love this chalk paint, and it's better priced than the Annie Sloan, etc. paint. The best part is that this brand of paint has the best wax to cover it. The wax is more runny than Annie Sloan and other chalk paints, and it's much easier to apply as a top coat over your chalk paint to protect it. Love this brand. Only complaint is Home Depot doesn't have a huge selection of colors with this, and they don't keep it stocked very well. Don't know the reason why? (Because it's great). Maybe it's hard to keep in stock because everyone's buying it (0: I had to order this online to get it. Excited to paint!

                Easy to use
I used this chalk paint to cover an old laminate dresser. It did require more than the suggested one coat to get the coverage I wanted. I used 2-3 coats. Still, it went on easily and dried quickly. Simple clean up with soap and water. With very little prep, I got what looks like a new dresser. Will definitely use it again.

                Great product!
Works great. First coat was scary. Don't panic! Three coats later and it's beautiful.

                GREAT product!
Great paint! Goes on smooth, with great coverage usually within 2 coats. LOVE it. Have used it on several pieces already and just love how good it looks on them. Waxed and one coat of poly and the pieces are ready to go. Very happy with this chalk paint.

                Americana Chalk Paint
Ok I must admit it was my first time using the Chalk paint. After reading reviews I was reluctant to try this brand, but it's easy to obtain & I jumped in. I started my first project on an old chair off my dads boat. It sits in a corner of my guest room w a chair cover over it the fabric was so yuck and dated, but good bones. If something went wrong I knew I could just throw the cover back over it& forget about it. I was pleasantly relieved to see how well the paint covered the fabric, low odor I did the project in my house w a drop cloth, sanded in garage though. It looks AmaZing!, so easy I can't wait to get my hands on the next piece. I highly recommend to any Pinterest Pinner, this is where I read how to do the painting & got my inspiration. I am just waiting for my stencil to come in the mail to complete the project. I don't know how the "other brands of paint " preform , but I was completely Happy w this line from Home Depot.

                My Favorite Chalk Paint EVER
Americana Decor is great. I've used several different colors of their chalk paints and they all turn out great every single time. I am redoing our current bedroom set to match our new bedspread for our new house and I think primitive is my favorite color so far! But besides the color looking great, I love this paint because it requires little to no prep work! It will cover absolutely anything. Often just one coat will do, however, just to be safe I usually do two. And it dries in no time! Once you have the first coat on you can get started on the second because it's already completely dry! Buy this product! You will not regret it! :)
