Questions & Answers

I am interested in repainting an old wooden bookcase and a wooden bench with this paint, but I do...

Asked by Texasmomoftwo May 8, 2021

Yes, you can just apply the paint without distressing it (i.e. sanding or waxing the paint). However, it does deliver a flat matte finish. It can be buffed when dry with a soft cotton cloth (like a Tshirt) to provide a soft satin sheen, or you can apply a water-based varnish to achieve the sheen you're looking for. -DecoArt Paint Guru

If used on fabric, does it change the finish of the fabric ?

Asked by Curiousyellow January 31, 2021

The Chalky Finish will dry hard on fabric. It will adhere to fabric just fine, but won't dry soft. Meant for decorative purposes only. -DecoArt Paint Guru

Can you add a color to the white chalky carbon paint

Asked by Carol June 28, 2020

Carbon is actually "Black". Our white chalky paint is called "Everlasting". These acrylics are water based and intermixable with other water based acrylics.

Is this his paint waterproof

Asked by Jammie May 15, 2020

The paint alone is not waterproof. You would need to seal with one of our Americana Decor Varnishes.

What kind of brush is best with this paint? Synthetic or real?

Asked by Sam May 6, 2020

I used synthetic brush and it came out great.

Would this 8 oz. jar cover an average size curio?

Asked by mcdee April 14, 2020

An 8 ounce jar covers approximately 50 square feet on sealed surfaces. It will depend on the condition of the surface you are painting and how dark the wood is, but most colors cover in one coat.

Will this paint adhere to glass, such as mason jars?

Asked by Alice February 20, 2020

Yes, our Chalky Finish will adhere to glass, but for decorative purposes only. You cannot drink out of it, nor can it be washed once paint is applied. -DecoArt Paint Guru

I want to paint a light color first the a dark color then slightly sand of some of the darker color to get a destressed.

Asked by Candace January 28, 2020

Yes, our Chalky Finish is very easy to sand down to deliver that distressed or vintage look your desiring. Our recommendation is that you let the darker overcoat dry completely - at least 1-2 hrs - before sanding. Use a light grit sand paper. -DecoArt Paint Guru

Asked by RJS January 23, 2019

Typically you don't need to prep a surface prior to the Crackle Medium, but we don't know how the crackle will react with the existing gold finish (is the gold a solvent based, oil-based, water-based paint, etc). The crackle was meant to be applied over an existing Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint - it's not been tested with other manufacturer's product. It should work, but we guarantee the results based on the existing gold finish. -DecoArt Paint Guru

Asked by Mee2U November 28, 2018

If you pull up Americana Decor 8oz Promise Chalky Finish, you will see a swatch card to the left. We have two shades of Pink in our Chalky Finish line - ADC05 Innocent, which is a brighter pink and ADC22 Promise, which is a softer pink. -DecoArt Paint Guru

Great brand of paint!
It was a little more blue than appeared on the bottle. It still look lovely it just wasn't the type of Grey I was looking for however we just put it in a different spot and it ended up being fine.

Worth the money!
I recently moved home from college and decided to redo my room. Buying a new dresser was not a reasonable option so I decided to paint it. The color turned out great. It says you only need 1 coat but I did 2. And it only took 1 8oz container to do both coats! Definitely will be using this again for future projects.

I used this both on a bathroom cabinet as a quick update and also as a “whitewash” for my fireplace. In both instances this worked BEAUTIFULLY! It is a quick drying paint so don’t dilly-dally with it. Loved the results!!

This paint is awesome! Dries fast and some things need a second coat. The best part about this paint, is that it’s very forgiving. You can put a couple coats and it’ll freshen up anything or hide small blemishes!

This worked as well as the brand names and much cheaper. I liked it a lot. I used it to redo old coffee tables and couldn't believe the outcome. It goes on smoother and needed two coats, and maybe a third if you really don't want anything showing through but I still have 1/4 of the product left. Easy to distress and just a beautiful color.
