I want to install 3 outdoor security light in my backyard.. can i series them To one switch? If yes how to series the wires for this kind of floodligh

Asked by Raul May 14, 2020

Answer

Yes, you can control three floodlights from one switch, especially if using LEDs bulbs. You would run a wire from the switch to the first light, then run a wire from the first light to the second light, and then run a wire from the second light to the third light. If the lights are, say, on poles in the backyard, make sure you use the correct underground wire or conduit for the wiring. Ensure all electrical codes, waterproofing, wire burial depth, etc., are met. Outside electrical wiring can be significantly different from inside residential wiring.

Asked by Lb April 18, 2020

Answer

The flicker is related to the bulbs. Your light fixtures have a feature known as DualBrite which allows them to work as dusk to dawn (if selected). This feature requires the bulbs to be "dimmable" capable. It appears your bulbs are non-dimmable.

Can the motion sensor be turned off so the light is just operated with light switch?

Asked by MOE December 13, 2019

Yes. Directions are clear on this point. Turn power to the light on and then turn it off for 4 seconds or so and then turn the power back on. The lights will stay on.

Can the bulbs be replaced with LED floodlights?

Yes, make sure they are outdoor rated and dimmable

How do I take the bulb out and replace

This is built with a standard screw-mount base. Unscrew your existing bulb counter-clockwise. You may want to replace with the recommended PAR 38 dimmable bulb, available in 60 and 120 Watt equivalent brightness.

Easy to use features for deck, grill and security! I replaced a 15-year old light on the corner of my home’s eve. The sensor has good visibility on both sides of my corner. I also like the fact that this has a ‘dualbrite’ setting: it can light the path at a reduced brightness for 3 or 6 hours after sunset. I’ll use 3 hours in the Summer, 6 hours in the Winter since winter gets dark at 5pm for us. In addition to the dualbrite, there’s a ‘Lamp Mode’ switch that lets the lamp come on gradually when activated, and dim gradually when turning off. This has a luxury sense to it, but is also a bulb-saver. Alternatively, it can work with a double on-off flash before activiting at full brightness. Good for security usage! In my installation, I also used this motion light to activate 2 patio-door scones. This unit doesn’t document additional lighting control in the wiring guide, but they do provide a wire-nut joint for this: the red wires in my photo are the tie-point. Note that when using this to switch other lights, take care not to exceed the total 240 watt rating of the security light. I used the dimmable PAR 38 bulbs recommended (photo), which provide 120 watt-equivalent light each, but only consume 19 watts each because of their LED construction. My two scones are 60 Watts each, so 120 Watts, plus 19 + 19 Watts puts my total at 158 Watts. I am very pleased with this motion security light, and its many configurable features. The manual is well-written and clearly explains how to both setup and configure the different operating modes.

A good automatic light with a lot of easy to use features and nice installation touches. I really like all the features of this motion sensing light. It has the "Dualbright" feature which is very useful because it helps activate the light at a dimmer level for a while before going into pure security mode. A simple switch turns it on or off. The way it works is for a certain amount of time (switchable) after sunset, the light comes on at 1/2 brightness, even without motion. If motion occurs, it switches on full brightness. After the time (I set mine to 3 hours), it turns off and goes into motion-only mode after that. This is perfect to give you light before you go to bed, and then later, act as security only. You provide your own bulbs, and I'm using dimmable LED bulbs and they work fine, even though this is not mentioned on the box printing. Par 38 LED dimmable bulbs can be obtained for as low as $7 for 2. That makes for an affordable installation. You can use other kinds too if you wish. Other things I really liked were that the mounting is simple, and they provide multiple size screws. Hooray! This really helps you find what you need to mount on all the box sizes out there. There is also a little plastic string to temporarily hang it up while you mount. Very clever. I have an old Heath motion light that is 20 years old and it still works great. (I believe Heath makes the Defiant brand.) I have a similar Dualbrite Defiant from 4 years ago still going strong. But I also had a Defiant from 2 years ago that failed. So it is a good news/bad news, but I think I might have not sealed my other one well enough. Both of my motion lights that are still going strong are eave mounted. The one that failed was wall mounted. My guess is that sealing the top of the box with caulk is very important. Any moisture inside will cause the sensor to fail. I'm taking off one star because the sensor position lock nut is plastic instead of metal. Additionally, aiming the lights is a bit awkward compared to other designs. But these are just small issues. Overall, for the price, this budget unit has good features. You set the switches for the features and forget it. No need for phone apps to set the device. The sensor, which is adjustable by a switch, generally works very well and you can't go wrong. Just make sure the unit it is sealed well. Made in China

We used this on an out building peak, so it was only one story high, but it provided good sensitivity and light overage. I really like the dual-brite feature where there is some light while saving energy until there is motion. Duration timer has 1, 5 and 20 minute settings. It also has an AlertFlash mode where it flashes 2 times when motion is detected. It has a 110 degree motion sensor. I like the metal bulb shields that protect the electrical sockets. It was fairly easy to install. The lights and sensor arm are all adjustable so it takes a little while to get everything aligned as desired. We wall mounted it, but it can also be mounted under an eave. We used dimmable LED bulbs without any issue, but be aware that the unit only mentions working with incandescent, halogen and CFL bulbs. Housing is all metal.

Called tech support only to have them tell me they don't work with LED bulbs. Well, I have 8 UTILITECH fixtures that work flawlessly with LED bulbs. Tech told me I should use incandesxent bulbs. Like really? Why would I use less energy efficient bulbs? Plus he told me Defiant makes Utilitech and that sensors are the same. Well, something is different. That's more reason that this light should work with LES bulbs if the same comoany is making the lights. I'm returning this Defiant light and never looking back. Utilitech lighrs work with LED bulbs. Tech said that they all require incandescent. That's a line of scrap. Utilitech website lists LED bulbs as being compatible so the tech just had no clue in general.
