Your iPhone should have come with a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter piece, but if you do not have one you can purchase one in most electronic departments. This will allow you to use this timer with your phone. Just make sure that the connecting piece for your phone matches. Replaced an Intermatic ST01 timer that had provided many years of reliable service but lately had become too difficult to see to program correctly. Installation was fairly easy although shoving the timer into the 2-gang wall box with four sets of wires coming in was like closing an overstuffed suitcase. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is that I could not get it to program with my new LG smart phone no matter what I tried and calling customer service was no help at all. They recommended taking the timer back to the store for replacement. Rather than do that I checked other reviews and read where folks had also experienced problems getting it to accept the program. Decided to try downloading the app to my iPad and that worked first time out.

Especially great if you don't need to change the time very often for daylight changes. Inconvenient if you don't have the earphone jack in your smartphone. I hope a stereo connector cable will work after the supplied cable breaks. It would be REALLY great if there was a durable case to store the cord! Fairly easy to install as long as you can ID the proper wires. Don't forget to turn the volume all the way up. Works as advertised for the past 3 weeks.

I had bought another timer before this one, it was complicated, small buttons and difficult. Dealing with a three way, it isn't always easy to find the traveler wire, but once you do, it works. I love this product. I just plug my phone into it and set what I want. Super easy, no little buttons. I like the look of this much better too. Same price between the two, but the ease is using your phone. The only thing I wish is that I can do this through wifi, but you can't for a three way. Oh well, this will work just as good!! I travel, so having the functionality to have timers is great! I can also program this to do vacation mode! I highly recommend this product!!

In three weeks of use, this wall/switch/timer has been dead reliable. Programming was simple using the app downloaded from iTunes store on an iPhone 6. It worked on the first try using the manual ON/OFF time input. BUT I could not get it to work at all using the dawn/dusk setting. After two tries- I moved on to the manual times. Works well as a simple ON/OFF switch. Not dimmable. Using it with three LED bulbs - two 5w filament types in sconces and one 7w recessed spot. This switched replaced an X10 switch which was too erratic/unreliable for front porch lights that needed to reliably turn ON/OFF at dusk/dawn. Very thorough instructions are included and available online- which cover most wiring scenarios. Wiring is as simple as any switch. Requires a neutral (white) wire. Wires insert into holes and then screws on sides of switch clamp down on them. This is a nice solution since the switch is quite large and consumes space in the box. This keeps the wires off the sides and keeps the switch profile narrow.

All I want is a dusk-to-dawn timer. Previously I've owned Intermatic ST01 timers which provide this function. In the past, they were for sale at one of the major home improvement stores (I don't recall which) so while looking again for this type of product for our new house, I saw the Defiant offerings at Home Depot. It sounded good and for a good price ($20) so I decided to give it a try. Now, I wanted dusk-to-dawn which means it needs to adjust throughout the year so that it continues to provide dusk-to-dawn as the seasons change. The wording on the materials of this product make you think it will provide that, but it does not, so it does not meet expectations, and leaves the user desiring this let down. I bought 3 of these now (5-6 needed total in future) with high hopes they would perform this function. Thankfully I only installed 1 to see how it would work first. Now I'll be returning all 3. The app interface is nice and makes it easy to program, much easier than most timers. I didn't need a display on my timer so I was thankful to save the money on these and use my smartphone for the display when setting up. All went great except I was suspicious about the dusk-to-dawn feature. Seemingly it was great that I didn't even have to program the time as I assume it got that from my smartphone, and seemingly I didn't need to tell it where I was located (needed for self-adjusting) since I assume it got that from my smartphone as well. Everything seemed awesome. But I was suspicious. So I screen captured the dusk/dawn times that it told me on the day I set it with the plans of checking back and seeing how much it had changed after some time. I know that the length of daylight changes by nearly 5 hours (roughly 9.5 hrs in winter peak and 14.5 hrs in summer peak) during a 6 month period. At nearly an hour (more like 45 min) every month, that's roughly 10 mins a week, just as a rough approximation. So I waited a week and checked it and saw no change at all to the settings. I then decided to come here and ask explicitly to ensure it didn't have some minimum threshold of change, but to my dismay the responses confirm it does not self-adjust. This is really unfortunate. For manual defined (Day/time) programming, I assume it does okay, but that's not what I need, so I did not try that. I'm being generous giving it some stars for that since I do like the app interface which makes programming easy. However, for what I bought it for, it failed to provide that functionality. This could have been a great product. I'll now be returning them all.

It is no longer supported you cannot down load the app required to run the timer. I found out the hard way when my was replaced and I could not download the app to set the timer. Home depot no longer sells them, I guess I can see why.

Installed 2 of them and they worked great for 8 or 9 months. Then had a neighborhood blackout. Now they reset the internal clock and but kept the program. But will not accept a new program from my phone. I tried 4 different cables and 3 different phones.
