"Will this work on doors that swing out?"

Asked by Gul December 16, 2019

Yes, I used it on a exterior garage door that swings out.

What tools are needed to install this?

Looks nice, but is cheaply made and does not stand up to use on the door. Chain comes out of piece attached to door frame, Don't buy if you are thinking that is will secure your door from opening.

Can I install this on a metal door+metal jamb?

That’s what type of situation I installed it on. Just remember to get the correct type of drill bit to get the screw started

Can this be installed on the outside or on a door that swings in?

It would work. A flat door bolt might be a better option. See image

Can this chain door lock lock be used on a fiberglass and steel doors?

Yes it can, but if part of your door is hollow or just sprayed with foam, it will get loose quickly. I use it in wood doors and it's held up fine. The screws aren't going to hold in a hollow door for long, especially if it keeps getting tugged at

how long is chain

The chain for this door guard is 141.5mm (about 5.57 in).

Useless screws
I bought this to stop our four year old from walking out our front door. After following the directions on the packaging and watching the video, I installed it as shown. On the first try, he ripped the slot out of the door frame. This is terrible design if you have drywall behind the door trim. The screws are far too short to go into anything except the trim and the drywall behind it. I'm not sure how it's supposed to keep an intruder out when it can't stop my four year old. It would be just fine if the included different, or additional screws. Luckily I was able to dig up some screws that were TWICE as long as the provided ones so I could catch some of the wood frame behind the sheet rock. Terrible design and instructions if you have a door frame like this since it only goes through about half an inch of trim with the tip of the screw ending in drywall. If you have solid wood to go straight into, the provided screws will probably work fine, but I suspect this would be a relatively small percentage of installs based on the 8 houses I've lived in.

Looks pretty, buy your own screws
I purchased the darker one. I drilled my pilot holes and started to drive the screws and stripped out the head of a screw. Literally 3/4 of a rotatation. Sheet rock screws are more durable. Save your self a headache and buy different screws.

Poor quality...
Due to the spacing of the screw hole and anchor post, the screw can’t get past the chain.

Awful Quality
It broke like some reviewers did...I don't know the chain is on and I opened the door like normal..it fell off! I should have checked the reviews before I bought this useless product. But at least I found the problem earlier than I thought.

Worthless!
We bought two of these. One for our front door and one for our door going into the garage. It was mainly to keep our toddlers from going outside, but the added security made me feel good. Until, my 10 year old son forgot the chain was on and opened the door. Not hard or anything, and the head of the chain just popped roght off! Then, I forgot to unlock the other one and it popped off, too!!! Both happened within a week of installing them. There is no way these would keep anyone in or out!! What an absolutely horrible, HORRIBLE product. I now have this hardware in my doors and I don’t know what to do. If I take them out, I will have holes. I will not ever buy one of these from this company again! Thanks for ruining my doors with your cheaply made, crappy product. This company should be ashamed to put out a product that’s supposed to help keep people safe when it does nothing but fall apart

We purchased this chain because my 2 year old figured out how to unlock our deadbolt and it had become a safety concern. One week after installing, my 2 year old tried to open the door with the chain on and broke the chain apart. He is TWO and he was able to break the lock in less than a week. If you are using this for safety, think again. If a two year old can break it, an intruder will have no problems either. Very disappointed in the quality and would not recommend at all. Don't waste your money.

Super cheap looking and has paint drips on it as well as slightly different shades of colors. Doesn’t match the brushed nickel door hardware at all.

Great, but I do not use this for the front door. We have a wood sliding patio door and I use it for that, BUT i do not let the chain hang loose like in the picture because I do not need to peek out and I want it to be as secure as possible. I installed mine high up on the sliding patio door. I believe the chain gives room for momentum when trying to slide(patio door) and kick(if it were a front door). I install mine with not much chain hanging as seen in the picture, but just enough to unhook
