No, someone on the outside cannot see clearly into the residence
Most interior room doors are 1 1/4” and my metal entry door to the house measures 1 3/4”. I believe the maximum thickness for a fit was 2 1/8.”
The inside viewer is 3/4", and the outside viewer is 1 1/4". The store description gives measurements as 1.18" depth, 1.18" width, and 1.779 height. A user who installed it used a 3/4" hole drill, but recommends using a 3/4" drill bit, and going in from the outside. In installing mine, I started out with a 1/2" drill bit, and had a devil of a time making it larger by reaming, files, etc. In other words, achieving a round hole of the right size does require using a larger bit--otherwise you will wind up with something lopsided. It is also important to make sure your hole is level so that it sees outside with a straight on view. Finally did get it installed. Something that should have been easy was made difficult by my own mistakes, so be forewarned. It wound up quite beautiful, and a really good door viewer.
We cannot advise regarding your application as it is unclear how other manufacturers construct their products.
The housing refers to the body of the unit which will go through the door. There are no additional fasteners that will cause issues. This unit is a two-piece system in which fasteners are not required. This door viewer can be installed in a Fiberglass door.
Yes it can.
