Q:Why is a midi lathe being called a mini lathe in the name of the product. A mini lathe is much smaller than this. This lathe is a mid-sized lathe, hence the common industry-wide category of midi .

      Well Made Midi Lathe
I also ordered the lathe stand and once setup I tried it out. Never had used a lathe before my first attempt did not go well. I was confused with the direction the blank was turning. I had it in the “forward” switch position but it wasn’t spinning in the correct direction…it was spinning in the “reverse” direction. So I googled this issue and found out it is a factory error for a lot of these lathes. The internal switch is wired incorrectly. It can be opened up and the wires reversed so it will run correctly but I left mine as in and just keep the switch in the reverse position which in reality is the forward position. Just didn’t see it as a big deal and didn’t want to take it apart. Been using it for just over a year now and I love it. Works great and easy to use. Has enough power for a midi lathe. I’ve been turning wood as well as resin. No issues other than the switch being incorrectly installed at the factory which is really irrelevant once I was aware of it. I could easily take it apart if it bothered me…but it’s too minor of an issue and zero effect to the performance of the lathe.

Bought this Lathe through Home Depot due to the weight and Delta service issues in online reviews, as I did not want to deal with banged up shipping issues. Home Depot did not disappoint. Box was in near perfect condition! Carefully unpacked and checked things out. All Looked good. After a few months of using I can give a good review. Machine is tough, heavy and has reverse. 12.5" swing. 16" between centers. Optional bed extension sold separately. Custom built a table for this baby and turning many things since. Like other reviewers have said, switch is backwards. I just used a magic marker to relabel them, nbd. Three different Pulley speed options, self adjusting tension on belt.Came with the basics, spur drive and face plate with live center and knockout bar. No regrets on my purchase Of this Delta Lathe through Home Depot. BTW, it was on sale!

Great starter lathe. Not quite big enough for the larger bowl projects but anything 12 inches or less does a good job. Variable speed is a very nice feature. Overall a pretty good little lathe.

I have had the lathe for a couple of months and it works as advertized. Changing of the belt is easy to do. The variable speed control is a breeze and the motor responds to the changes without hesitation. The banjo and tail stock glide across the bed ways. The only disappointment with the lathe is that the Forward and Reverse switch was wired in backwards. It had to be rewired to work correctly. I guess this could happen to any factory assembled product. Overall, I really like this lathe and would definitely recommend it to a friend.

          Wonderful Lathe!
This lathe is a pleasure to use. It’s powerful but surprisingly quiet. It has variable speed and 3 belt positions for each speed range. The tail stock and tool rest assembly glide easily along the lathe bed, and they’re easy to lock and unlock with a quarter turn of the locking levers. They're also easy to remove from the lathe bed if they're in the way during finish sanding. The reverse feature is handy for finish sanding; it's easier on the fingers, and the sawdust goes to the back instead of towards the operator. The reverse feature is good only when using the faceplate, which can be "locked" onto the spindle so it won't unscrew. Using a chuck in reverse would likely be a problem. The two tool rests are a little wimpy; they’re lightweight and easily marred, and my tools do not glide along them. I may have to upgrade them, but the posts are an odd size. The included lathe stand was the deciding factor for this purchase from Home Depot. It’s wonderfully sturdy and stable, and it has leveling feet. The tool holder on the stand is really only good for storing the tool rests; my lathe tools just fall through. I was hesitant to go with a Delta due to the service problems and difficulty getting repair parts, so I hope this lathe continues to work flawlessly. I’ve owned several lathes, and this one is by far the best and most versatile. I’m very happy with my purchase.

Best Lathe I Have Used Yet
It has a very powerful motor so you rarely have stalls while turning. Also a nice feature is the reverse, which a lot of people say they don't use but I have used it on everyone of my projects so far and it makes the finish so much better! I was skeptical at first about buying this lathe because of what I had heard about Delta's C.S., I haven't had to deal with them yet and hopefully don't have to. So far though I am VERY happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this lathe.
