Q:Why is the delta saw so much more than the identical ridgid

Answer This Question

A:  It's not. Aside from color and name, they are identical.

A:  Well, I'm sorry to point out the obvious but they are not identical. 1st and main difference is the sliding mechanism behind each saw. The Rigid has a sliding dual shaft that the saw travels along. This can get dirty and cause friction over time creating the need to clean and oil the shaft. The Delta has a robotic type dual arms that extend instead of slide. The arm extension motion is smoother than any slide I've ever worked with. It uses bearings in the pivot points that are sealed and don't need cleaning. I have had my saw now 3 years and have never had to clean the mechanisms due to debris. Another point of interest is the 3 year warranty on the Rigid. The Delta has a 5 year warranty. I know that Rigid boasts a lifetime warranty if you register, but I will tell you that my experience has been a non warranty issue with every call I've made. And getting parts has been troublesome. I needed a replacement part due to my own error on the delta and I had a replacement within 1 week. Lifetime warranties are never really lifetime in my opinion and by my experience. Also, look into the LED cut line indicator. I am not sure if this is the same type of cutting line or not. The delta calls it a shadow light. This projects the light down from the top side of the blade creating the blade shadow on the cutting surface at exactly the line you want to cut. If this is the same type, it's a great feature. If this is different, I'd opt for one with a shadow light. They work the best. I don't know if this helps, but I looked at the DeWalt , Rigid, and Delta when I was shopping for mine. I have never regretted the decision. Good Luck!

        Answer This Question

A:  The belt dpec005075 for the 12" Dual Bevel Sliding Cruzer Miter Saw MODEL NUMBER: 26-2251 longevity would be based on usage, climate, maintenance, and sharpness of blade (s). Establishing a specific timeframe would all be subjected to before mention information. If your belts are burning frequently (3-4 weeks, etc.,) then you might want to have it checked out.

I've only had this for a short while but, so far, very impressed. Some complain about dust collection but I've not had an issue once I learned how to best make my cuts. Pull the saw all the way out and then swing it down. as you push back to make the cut the blade is cutting back and up which throws the sawdust up into the vacuum inlet where it belongs. It's basically working like a radial arm saw but just on the back stroke instead of cutting on the pull stroke. I've put off building a surround because the dust collection has been much much better than some reviews had me expecting. I'm now installing a zero clearance insert which brings up the real challenge. The screws holding the lower fence to the deck are extremely tight and the supplied torx wrench is too sloppy to remove them. Before you round things off get a torx bit that fits properly and, with a lot of force, they will come loose. At least mine did. I felt like something was going to break but they did release. I built my miter station tables using the supplied blade but have now changed to a 100 tooth Diablo for more refined work. Very easy blade change. Also great that there is no adjustment needed with a shadow line!

I returned the makita direct drive ls1219 when it kept acting up. The Delta cruzer's belt drive is much more responsive, more torquey, and the robotic arms are much smoother. Also the shadow cut line is much more accurate than the offset laser which seemed to jostle about. This is the best miter saw ive ever owned and i love it. I did have to re-paint my miter station because it was all makita teal/green. Love makita still but delta knows how to do miter and table saw's

It could be a good product but it has several flaws that make me believe it was not a good buy. #1, there customer support is TERRIBLE! I tried to remove the back fence with the provided tool. The bolts were so tight that the tool broke and I stripped the torx head on two of them. I've contacted Delta three times for a replacement tool and bolts. I've received one email back from them, after the second email, that they would get back with me in a few days. Well, its been almost two months. Hence, if you want service after the sale, buy a different brand. #2, the dust collection is very weak. Dust flies back at you when it hits the small rubber deflector instead of being deflected up into the dust collection chute. I tried it with the included bag, hooked to a vacuum and hooked to my central dust collector. None of them work very well and this is supposed to be version 2 with the improved dust collection. To me, the angle of the rubber dust deflector is wrong. It is too vertical. #3, in order to change the table insert, you have to remove the fence (the fence covers two of the screws). Poor design. If they had moved the screws either forward or backwards, they wouldn't be under the fence and you could change the insert with the fence on. #4, There is more play than I like in the arms when the saw is fully extended. Again, this is version 2 which they claim they removed some of the play (vs. version 1). All in all, I'd look hard at the Bosch unit if I had to do it all over again.

The best 12” sliding compound miter saw
I previously had the dewalt 790 sliding compound saw. It’s a great saw but I’m my garage woodshop it takes up far too much room. This delta has a light very similar to the dewalt, and no other saw has one. Easy to tune, easy to adjust bevel and cut angle. And has the largest crosscut capacity of saws at the moment. It’s worth every penny as it a space saver.
