Hi Nan! Thank you for your question! I will be happy to help. The Delta U1072-PK tub spout assembly slip fits onto a 1/2" CWT. or a threaded 1/2" or 3/4" IPS. Please see the Maintenance/installation document for install directions. https://media.deltafaucet.com/MandI/U1010L%20Rev%20C.pdf Best Regards, Tim

Will this continue to divert water to an existing in-wall shower or will it just divert to the new hand held shower connected to this fitting?

Thia unit is meant to divert to a handheld shower. If you have both handheld and in wall shower, there will be a pressure reduction and some water will probably come out of both shower heads. But if you have a shutoff on both heads, you can shut one and use the other.

Thank you for your question, Kat. You could connect a portable dishwasher to the hand shower outlet using the right adapter. It has standard 1/2" hand shower threads. Best regards, Jon Phone: 1-800-345-3358 | Email: customerservice@deltafaucet.com | Facebook/Twitter: @deltafaucet

What is your question?

Where are the threads on the spout? Open end or against the wall?

It's been a while since I installed this tub spout. This tub spout is universal because it designed for 1/2" IPS, 3/4" IPS and it'll slide onto 1/2" copper pipe. If you are using the (supplied) adapter for for 1/2" copper pipe - the connection will be right up against the wall. You simply slide the tub spout onto the copper pipe and tighten the set screw on the bottom to lock it on. The 1/2" and 3/4" threads are about 4" deep into the tub spout. If your existing tub spout is threaded - you better be prepared to replace the nipple. Two ways to handle this: 1. If the store is close by, you can take off the existing nipple, do your calculations - then go to the store to purchase or... 2. Save your time and gas and purchase multiple lengths - eg: 2", 2 1/2", 3", 3 1/2", 4", 4 1/2", 5" long nipple and have them all on hand - use the appropriate one and return the ones you don't use.

After just a few weeks of use, the plastic coupling in the spout broke right where the diverter is located. Everything was hand turned to ensure it wasn't over tightened.

Buy 2 plan on replacing after 9 months
This is the second unit in my house the first one came with the house and lasted about a year before leaking into a wall. The second unit lasted about 9 months before dripping at the back of the faucet. In both cases the plastic adapter became brittle and failed over time. I’m disappointed in the poor quality.

Some bathtubs are what they call a tub/shower combos - where you can shower or take a bath. In this situation, it was a dedicated bathtub without any shower head. We wanted to add a hand held shower to wash an elderly person. This would also be ideal to wash small children. Time and cost was also a factor. Sure, simple enough - change the tub spout with a tub spout that has a diverter and side outlet. Not so fast, tub spouts are connected onto either a 1/2" threaded nipple, 3/4" threaded nipple, or a 1/2" copper pipe. So which connection do you have? Ah hah! That's the nice thing about this diverter tub spout - IT COVERS ALL THREE TYPES OF CONNECTIONS! It gives you a bushing to convert it to 3/4" pipe and a fitting to slip onto a 1/2" copper pipe. It also includes Teflon tape! The threads on the side outlet is a standard thread that will fit just about any hand shower hose. You can call this a "Fit All" tub spout for adding a hand shower.

The position of the diverter is excellent. The plastic sleeve that came with faucet Leaked from the back end and had to be replaced with A brass fitting. So after that issue was resolved the Diverter works great. It was initially installed by a plumber

Super easy to install. Various adapters included for the different sizes of pipes one might have in their home. My home was built in the mid 70's and I didn't want to spend the hundreds of dollars it would cost to convert this tub into a shower/tub bathroom. I spent less than $100 buying this item and the hand held shower mount to go with this. Love it!

Best quality for the price!!
Great quality for the price. Tryed two different ones from two other stores, they were a little cheaper in price, but were very cheaply made, the spout for the hand shower was made of plastic and one actully broke one me. Very easy to install and no problems at all. Worked great to install a shower in my extra bathroom.

Rating could have been better if the packaging gave dimensions of the connections to the faucet, if the diverter could swivel and there were adapters to change teh connections from 1/2" to a standard 3/8". I had to spend over $75 in extra equipment, some NOT at Home Depot, to get it to work!
