Will it fit on a pipe length of 3.5 inches from the wall?

Will this continue to divert water to an existing in-wall shower or will it just divert to the new hand held shower connected to this fitting?
Asked by Scottyg April 23, 2020Thia unit is meant to divert to a handheld shower. If you have both handheld and in wall shower, there will be a pressure reduction and some water will probably come out of both shower heads. But if you have a shutoff on both heads, you can shut one and use the other.

Where are the threads on the spout? Open end or against the wall?
Asked by Maddie July 29, 2017It's been a while since I installed this tub spout. This tub spout is universal because it designed for 1/2" IPS, 3/4" IPS and it'll slide onto 1/2" copper pipe. If you are using the (supplied) adapter for for 1/2" copper pipe - the connection will be right up against the wall. You simply slide the tub spout onto the copper pipe and tighten the set screw on the bottom to lock it on. The 1/2" and 3/4" threads are about 4" deep into the tub spout. If your existing tub spout is threaded - you better be prepared to replace the nipple. Two ways to handle this: 1. If the store is close by, you can take off the existing nipple, do your calculations - then go to the store to purchase or... 2. Save your time and gas and purchase multiple lengths - eg: 2", 2 1/2", 3", 3 1/2", 4", 4 1/2", 5" long nipple and have them all on hand - use the appropriate one and return the ones you don't use.
