Questions & Answers

Since this does not come with a switch what type of switch needs to be purchased/used?

Asked by: bth
The fan has many functions. If you want to switch them all, you will require 4 SPST switches (regular one-way light switch). One switch controls the main lamp, another controls the night light. Third switch is master power for the fan (force it to be off even if humidity is detected. Fourth switch manually turns the fan on at it's highest speed. I wired my fan so that master connection is hot and unswitched - the humidity function will always work. I have a regular SPST switch for the master light and a countdown timer for the high speed fan connection (this is for bathroom odor instead of humidity). I didn't connect the night light. This is a great setup. There are controls inside the fan that let you set how much humidity before the sensor turns the fan on and another one which allows you to set the fan to run at a lower speed anytime the master power is on. I have that control set to off. The only bad thing about this set up is that the fan control circuit is very picky about timer compatibility. Many timers operate by stealing a little power from the load to operate, so there needs to be a motor or lightbulb connected to the switch. Because this fan has a fan control circuit, those timers WON'T work, including the Lutron Maestro that I use elsewhere in the house. I contacted Breez customer support and they sent me a list of compatible timers including an Intermatic that works just fine. This fan is really awesome!

will this work with a drop ceiling?

will this work with a drop ceiling?
Asked by: Person
Thank you for your inquiry. Delta BreezSignature 110 with Humidity Sensor, Light and Night-Light may work if you find mounting hardware to secure the unit. We suggest to secure the hanger bars to the fan, mounting the hanger bars to the joist; however, we do not know how many inches between joist in your situation, so we don't know if our hardware provided are long enough. If the drop ceiling does not have any joist in the ceiling where you want to mount the unit, it may not work for your application. You may consider wall mount solution such as Delta BreezSlim series. Please feel free to contact our Technical Support at (888) 979-9889 Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM PST or email us at BreezTechSupport@deltaww.com for additional assistance.

The night light does not come on

The night light does not come on. I have only 2 switches. The one switch turns the main light on and off but the night light does not come on in either position of the switch. Is there another wire that needs connected? How should the other switch be wired for the fan? Right now, it turns the fan off and on. I would like the switch to switch between full on (of the fan) and humidity control operation. Is that possible? The wiring instructions are not clear at if you do not have 4 switches. It would be nice to have alternative wiring diagrams with explanations or different scenarios if you have fewer than 4 switches It is a very nice fan/light and I would like to take better advantage of its capabilities without running more circuits. Thank you.
Asked by: Handyman
I just installed this a month ago. You're right, the instructions are mysterious. To turn on the night light, there is another wire (yellow) that will need to be connected at the fan box. If you want to turn it on independently, you will need another switch and hot wire to the fan. You could wire the yellow wire to the main red light wire and they'll both turn on, but the main light is so much brighter you won't see any difference. When I installed my fan, I connected the power line (black) directly to hot without a switch and set the internal CFM control to off. When there's no humidity, the fan doesn't run. When there's humidity in the room, the fan turns on automatically. You can set the RH% control to whatever is right for you. The blue LED is always on. I connected the mode switch wire (blue) to a countdown timer. This lets me turn the fan on at high speed "when there's no humidity detected" (when using the commode). That's probably the function you want. This fan is picky about the timer switch you use because of how they work (they normally steal some power from the light or fan load). The fan doesn't work with the Lutron Maestro T51, but I contacted Breez and they sent me a list of compatible timers, including the Intermatic EI205 that works perfectly. That gives a lot of good control with just two switches. I was adding the fan to an existing duplex box with two single switches, so now one position is the time and the other is a triple SPST switch. I did not connect the nightlight because I was at the code limit for wires in this box. Good luck! It's a great fan.

You would need 4 light switches, Yes 4. one for the light one for the night light one for the power and one for mode, and one for the toilet and one for the door and one for the mirror, and one for your toothbrush,,,wait what? geeeeee,,, unless u team the light with the fan then you would have the fan on when the lights are on. i only had 2 switches so i am going to use combination switches of 2 on each side, then run 2 extra set of wires, installing it on the joist if you don't have a ceiling yet is simple, but if you have a ceiling like i do and my ceiling is 1"thick 1/2 drywall and 1/2 plaster then the joist brackets wont work either. they say to just Lay a piece of wood above the ceiling on one side and you screw it thru the drywall to this piece of wood the other side is to the joist , what kinda support is that? if the mounting holes were on the front and back rather left and right you can bridge the joist with 2x4's and screw it to the 2x4's but noooo the fan exhaust is in the way so you cannot do that either, and when you do not use the joist brackets there are 8 1.5" slots that sit in the attic, well guess what those are lower than the fan motor so when you start it, it will suck air from the attic too. so you would have to plug them up and make sure you seal every hole below the fan motor. i was not able to flush it to one side of the joist due to another light already there, i needed it center between the joist and i had 16" joists, so i had to add 2x4's to each side to bring it to 12" and then screw it to those. oh yes it says to cut a 10-1/4" square hole in the ceiling, oh boy don't do that just measure the the fan metal box and add 1/8" on each side. 10-1/4 is too much.

Maybe some can be combined in future models.

Also, the model I purchased is apparently an older one as Delta Breez informed me. You should alert customer to that situation. I'll see how the energy efficiency goes?

I just had this installed today by a licensed electrician (because I needed some wiring done for it). The fan has both a whistling noise and a metallic rattling noise, so I am not happy with it. The fan itself is fairly quiet, but the whistling and rattling are annoying and shouldn't be there on day one. Adjusting the fan speed does not make a difference in the noise level. It is just as loud on 40 cfm as on full speed (110 cfm).
