Can the 4" exhaust line be connected to another 4" exhaust line to avoid installing a 2nd outside...

Can the 4" exhaust line be connected to another 4" exhaust line to avoid installing a 2nd outside vent? Would this unit be best to install in the tray ceiling over the shower our 130 squar foot bathroom. Also, while I would prefer an exhaust fan with lower sones and an adjustable humidity setting, it looks like the only product that meets that requirement has a 6" exhaust line. I suspect that probably would not be a good idea to connect that line using a Y connection to the existing 4" exhaust line from the bathroom closet.
Asked by: Wayne
This fan does have a damper at the box. I would agree with the other comments here - you don't want a Y connector with another room because it can easily end up pumping air from one room to the other. I think this is the case even if you had extra dampers going into the Y, when they're both operating.

Can this be installed in the ceiling, directly above the shower?
Asked by: LBo
Most likely you can but I would advice against it. If you insist on installing it directly above the shower then take the following into consideration: If your ceiling is low enough that a tall person can reach up and touch the fan, then you should install the fan on a GFI circuit (meaning you would have a GFI breaker in your electrical panel for the circuit that the fan is connected to). If your ceiling height is high enough that a 6' person can't reach up and touch the fan, then you're probably OK. I know people will say the cover is plastic but if someone can reach up and touch the fan then they can also splash water into it. The fan is designed to remove humid air from the room, not to be sucking water directly. My suggestion would be to install the fan just outside the shower/tub enclosure if possible.

How many light switches are required to properly install this exhaust fan?
Asked by: InquisitiveMind
1 single pole switch is required for this fan assembly, Turn the switch to the on position , this activates the humidity sensing, turn the switch off, then back on to turn the fan on. I installed a switch/timer to automatically turn the fan off.

Is the toggle switch included?

No, it is not included. All that is needed is a standard light switch.

This exhaust seemed to be of high quality, but being the inexperienced dope that I am, failed to realize how tall this product is. This will NOT fit within a 2x6 lumber ceiling :). For those of you who are attempting to install an exhaust within your basement or those who have no attic overhead, choose a "SLIM" fitted exhaust fan. Great service by Home Depot <3

We had Delta Breez fans installed in our bathrooms and laundry about two years ago, I think that they were 70 CFM and they worked well. We had a lightning strike that blew out the two in our master bathroom and replaced them with this 130 CFM and LOVE them. On high they are not as quiet but really move the air. Going to replace the other two with this model when I get around to it. FYI - the noise is not annoying and when it is really hot here in Houston Texas I run the fans on high and have not trouble sleeping.

The mounting brackets included only work for new construction and not replacing an existing fan, so you have install pieces of wood to the joists to properly mount this thing.

We originally had an undersized fan that could not keep up. Now we rarely see any stream build up and we have seen less mildew. Excellent choice.

I rate the device as a product a 4 star. Well made. BUT... the way it's made presents a problem in that the design is such it is meant to fit into the hole cut in drywall (metal frame to rest against the underside of the drywall). If you don't have the drywall on yet as in new construction or a total reno, mounting to the joists the way it is designed to be, you have to lower the main body 1/2 inch below joints. But if you do the drywall has to be slid into place sideways (two pieces)... or you do as I did... mount it so it is flush to the joists so you can hang the drywall, make the cutout and push the grill against the drywall. Also, there are only three sliding attachment arms to secure the device to the joists. So, I framed all around the box inside the joist framing so that the box is solidly encased such that it will not bounce or vibrate which helps to reduce noise and operate better. The very thin plastic damper in the slide in duct connector pinched closed when I tightened the aluminum ducting onto the connector and I had to crawl into the ceiling attic to remove it so the air would flow. Not an easy install. But the unit itself seems to be made well. Lastly... notice Home Depot posts reviews for multiple product lines onto reviews for products the reviews were not meant to be written for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product but difficult installation Love the humidity control. Never worry about turning it on. Also like that it works with the existing electric and I did not have to run a constant power. Much larger that previous unit and requires building structure above the ceiling. Opted to build wooden structure instead of using the silly mounts that are included. Requires cutting an additional access hole in the ceiling to connect the ducting. Despite the installation, I would do it again as I love the humidity sensor. And I like the variable speed as it never gets below a quiet, low speed. Full speed is still a little noisy but it certainly moves some air.
