Customer Reviews

Slim Series 100 CFM Ceiling or Wall Bathroom Exhaust Fan, ENERGY STAR is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well Constructed; Instructions not so Good There's a phone number on the Instructions (look carefully for it). Customer support was great ! The suspension bracket I received was fabricated incorrectly according to the pictures in the instructions. I called customer support & they shipped me another and it was the correct one according to the pics in the instructions, turned out I needed to use the original bracket when it came time to actually mount the unit. I think Delta has two styles of brackets, you just need to call Customer Support if you need the other one. The only difference is the "L" portion is clocked 180°. Fan is well built, I had to add a 2" Duct to the housing to lift it so the exhaust port would clear 2 copper pipes, was able to do so using pop-rivets & vent adapters (available at hardware store)...would be nice if Delta offered lift kits for such situations. Runs quiet !! I've got a 16' foot 3" duct run to my eve, I would say it runs about 2 Sones with my duct restriction. Much much better than the 5 Sone Broan that was installed.

This comes with a reducer for 3" diameter duct, but you will need to stick with 4" diameter duct for it to work properly. 2. This isn't intended for retrofit. 3. The indicator light implies that it will be so quiet you won't know it's running - ridiculous unless you have lots of other constant background noise. So in the end, I am happy with this fan, but it was a nighmare getting there. I bought this to replace a smaller fan 3" diameter duct. Since it come with the reducer, I assumed it would work with my existing 3" diameter duct. It didn't. It was very, very noisy with backflow. (I have about 20' of duct with some turns, so maybe that is why.) Luckily I have access to everything in my attic, so I was able to replace the existing 3" duct with 4" duct. It works a million times better now, but still not super quiet - still no need for the indicator light. There is NO WAY to slide this into existing construction, to replace an existing fan. I had to install it from the attic - impossible to install it from inside my bathroom. It should get 1 star for difficulty of retrofit installation, but now that it is all done with 4" pipe, it works quite well - only not as quiet as I expected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far so good. I haven't had it operational but for a week now though. The green indicator light... So far so good. I haven't had it operational but for a week now though. The green indicator light seems pointless to me. Just a bell or whistle. You can hear the fan so you know it is on. It is slow to start up and get going to full speed so maybe that helps for a few milliseconds?? It was relatively easy to install for a first time bath exhaust DYIer like myself. I moved and replaced my old one of another model/brand. So after getting the electrician here to lengthen the wires and having the drywall guys seal it up around it all was pretty straightforward. I only caution people on one thing. Make sure if you are working with a tight space (like I was ) that you take into account the length/width of the cover. More importantly make sure you understand how far out from the drywall cut that the unit is recessed into that the fan cover expands. It caused me a little headache as it was much wider/longer--protruded more than my old one and I was obviously expecting. It does its job which is really all I was asking for.

Nothing inherently wrong with this product AFAIK, but It's not appropriate for a retrofit of an older home without neutral wires at the switch box and I wouldn't buy it again. You cannot install this properly without access to the ceiling, trust me - I'm still scraping mud dust from the nooks and crannies after repairing my holes. You would think that it's appropriate for a home with 3 inch ducting, as it comes with a reducer - that's one of the reasons I bought it - but there was tremendous buffeting/chattering sound beyond the sound of the fan itself (which was definitely louder than I expected). On top of that you can be a victim of its technology: the fan draw so few watts that it's actually incompatible with standard fan timer switches. I had plans to put in a nice Lutron fan countdown timer (I like the switch as much or more than the fan itself) but they don't work together, the draw is too low. Did not anticipate that! I'm stuck now, you have to buy a more sophisticated switch for HE apps that requires a neutral wire in the switch box, which of course I don't have. So this product caused one discovery/headache after another in my sitch. Still trying to resolve the chattering sound with Delta. Buying something cheaper/lower tech/less efficient would have made me happier with less headaches as it turned out. If you have big ducts, new wiring, access to the ceiling, then I'll bet you can make it work.

I had installed a Delta SLM70 in our master bath and it was a bit too small for the space so I decided to move that one to our 1/2 bath and upgrade to the SLM100. I was excited for an even quieter fan given the SLM100 is rated at 1.0 some vs. the 1.5 some for the SLM70. I crawled up into the attic, took out the old one, installed this one, crawled back down, flipped the switch and WOW this is terribly noisy! Much louder than the SLM70. I checked to make sure the motor and fan were tightly attached to the housing, ensured there was no rubbing anywhere causing vibrations - nothing worked. I don't know if this is defective, but I hate to fight with Home Depot or Delta for a replacement given this is such a pain to get to and swap out. I would NOT recommend this fan.
