Questions & Answers

Can you tile over the front flange? I looked at the tub in store and the front flange looks really thick...

... like it’s not meant to be covered with tile.
Asked by: Texas
Recall that this is a direct-to-stud installation, meaning that there is nothing between the tub and the studs. Once clearance holes are drilled and the flange is attached by screws/nails (I used stainless steel wide head) you can attach the backer board, normally the 5/8” thickness is used. On a similar installation I cut out a little room on the backside of the backer board to make room for the flange as the 5/8” has plenty of room for it. For my ‘400’ I chose the 3-piece surround (also direct-to-stud) instead.

How did you deal with the lip running down both sides of the tub? As far as covering it up. Any suggestions are appriciated:-)

Asked by: Tmay
My home is finished in rustic Cedar. When I installed the tub I trimmed a piece of cedar to mold around the tub and fit closely to the edges.

What size drain do I need to buy?
Asked by: Louise
We just bought some cheap drain kit, and then bought another bit of PVC pipe. Installed ourselves in one day. This tub is deep. A standard tub drain will not be long enough.

Customer Reviews

Classic 400 60 in. Right-Hand Drain Rectangle Alcove Non-Whirlpool Bathtub in High Gloss White is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 284.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Tub I am very pleased with the overall quality of this tub. The fit and finish of the tub are top quality. I had two small issues during the installation. 1)The standard drain tube that I bought at Home Depot was too short for this tub. I think this tub is just a little bit taller than a standard tub. Therefore, I had to switch to the pop up stopper in the tub or spend about $85 (brushed nickel ) for a longer drain tube. 2)The front lower sides of the tub are slightly curved. So I had two choices, wider grout lines or cut the tile on a curve. Not fun, but not horrible According to the directions, this tub does not require a mortar be unless the floor isn't level. This is a little different than I am used to, but nice! We had to install (click in to place) two plates on the underside of the tub to keep the lower front edge from bowing back in after installation. Again, this was a little odd, but not horrible. I am not sure why they did come pre-installed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the Price This was our second time to install an acrylic bathtub, so we had a general idea of what we were getting ourselves into. The overall feel & look of the tub are great. It feels solid even if you don't have a mortar base. We needed a mortar base because our slab wasn't even. That said, the instructions say to pour the mortar where needed, set the tub, remove the tub & let the mortar dry (this was complete opposite of what we did before) and it was a disaster!. No way does the tub level out & go back into the exact same spot that you created in the mortar. We ended up chiseling out the mortar to then pour new mortar under the entire base of the tub (not just the non level parts), set the tub & left it there to dry. Although it doesn't say to add the back rail to support the back of the tub if pressed on, we did anyways. Those are the 2 changes that I think should be added to the instructions, but everything else seems to look and work great.

Home Depot has no business selling this tub if they don't stock the drain pipe required for proper installation. I had to pay a contractor a boat load of extra money just to find a drain that fits. I returned one tub to Home Depot because it appeared there was defect with the drain... ultimately, it was determined it was not a defect but rather an issue with the type of drain used. The type of drain used was only used because is was the only one available within 100 miles that was long enough (see photo below). There is an obvious disconnect with Home Depot, Delta and the local distributor. DO NOT BUY THIS TUB unless you have access to the proper drain. Read the reviews...the drain leaking between the white tub material and the black base is 100% due to Home Depot not selling compatible drains. No one at HD has a clue about the drain requirements and it just cost me an extra $500 in labor charges to get this sorted out. Horrible experience and now I know why homeowners choose to re-epoxy their old tub rather then replace. Not a very good business model HD! #Sad

Tub itself could be a little stiffer. The only negative is having to "glue" the brace to the tub skirt. I had to clamp it in place overnight. Not crazy about the limited allowable caulks as well.

I would have chosen the Kohler Bancroft tub expect they are not in stock. (cost over $700 and would buy with a 4.6 approval rating.) Cheap flimsy tubs are to costly too install and then risk having issues because removal is cost prohibitive. Buy quality and buy it once. Why Home depot refuses to stock better quality tubes? I stalled a Acrylic shower pan two years ago, even mudded and now it squeaks relentlessly when showering. I can't risk another cheap product.I returned the tube and bought a steel insulated enamel tub because that's the only choice the store had..... stock quality stuff please.

This tub was bought last month to replace a 30 year-old 3-piece fiberglass set. Acrylic was chosen to prevent cracking and chipping, plus Delta does offer a reasonable warranty. At 52 pounds this tub is lightweight and easy to install with two people. The drain is not included so a separate pvc with chrome pop-up drain was also purchased from Home Depot, SKU # 611918108759. This drain fits perfectly and has a great seal with fast, strong drainage pressure. Caulking was placed around the tub twice to prevent leakage. The water fills up quickly even though this tub is very deep compared to other models of this size. Also there are small anti-slip grooves for safety and the protective coating keeps the tub clean. The side flange and high gloss gives this tub some style at a very affordable price. Overall this is a great buy.

It's fairly light but not a light-weight. It feels solid, the flange is thick. It sits well on the floor. It's a deep soaker, the finish was spotless, and was packed well. Overall - excellent. Really like it. Regarding the tub drain kit, they do sell a cable drain system for these 18" tall tubs. I hear they get poor reviews and they are expensive. Instead, buy the standard *easy-touch* drain kit that works on 12" to 15" tubs and also buy a 6" extension tube. (You may have to cut an inch off the over-flow tube to make it fit.) Again, use the easy-touch and not the flip-lever. The flip-lever will not have enough linkage and flip-levers are a pain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We bought this tub for a bathroom remodel to replace... We bought this tub for a bathroom remodel to replace an early 1900's clawfoot that was original to our home. We loved the soaking depth of the clawfoot but wanted a tub/shower in our main bathroom. This tub provides a nice soaking depth similar to our old tub which we really appreciate. It's also wonderfully light after wrestling that clawfoot out the door! The only reason I didn't give an excellent rating is because the tub has a separate apron support at the bottom that the instructions indicate must be glued to the back of the apron. But they don't tell you what kind of glue to use. I emailed Delta to ask and received no response. I tried construction adhesive but it didn't really hold. I don't think it will have any practical implications though since I installed molding along the bottom of the tube that should hold the apron in place.
