Questions & Answers

Is there a specific drain I need with this tub?

Asked by: htown
I puchased the easy touch style pvc drain kit for the 12-15 inch length, and a short section of 1 1/2” pvc to replace the one in the kit. Cut to appropriate length and voila. This works if you can’t find a kit for higher than 18” tub.

What is the maximum width where the tub bows out? How much the tub will intrude into the room 30” is not the max width just the width at ends.

Asked by: Marco
It is 33 inches from the back of the tub at the widest part. I just measured the maximum width, we have not installed our tub yet.

What overflow bath drain is recommended for this tub?

The delta website does not sell a specific overflow drain for this tub. I read reviews about people having issues with standard size overflow drain when installing the Classic 400 Delta. Please provide a specific overflow that should be used for this tub.
Asked by: James
December 11, 2016 This is from the manufactures documentation for the Delta Classic 400 Curve. NOTE: Drain/overflow assembly should be sized for 16 1/2” (41.91 cm) deep bathtub. The standard drain kits that Home Depot sells are 12" to 15". These will not fit. The people that work at Home Depot do not know this, as they sold me the 12" to 15".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful, Sleek Bathtub This is a beautiful, sleek bathtub to put into new construction or renovation projects. We took out an old HEAVY porcelain bathtub from our kids' bathroom to replace it with the Classic Curve tub. We actually had to saw the old bathtub in half before removing it. We also had to remove a row of tile around the top and sides of the old tub in order to remove the screws that secured it to the studs. The new tub is securely in, but we haven't finished the replacement tile work or matching glass door installation. I love how the side of the tub curves out in the middle, and in on the sides. Any little bit of floor space is precious in as small a space as the average bathroom. It is sturdy and well built. We will be happy to use it when all the tiling and door installation are complete. Happy soaking!

At first everything was great I installed this tub in Late october 2016 we completed this project early November 2016 se had used it a couple of weeks since this is our hallway bathroom and not the master bath we don't shower or bathe in this tub we gave the grandkids a bath in it and my wife soaked in it twice one morning my daughter called me into the bathroom she said that the tub has a crack in it , I didn't believe her since my wife had just cleaned the tub the night before but after I looked at it it was for sure cracked, its like it just happened over night. Sure the tub is under warranty, but now I have to tear the bathroom apart to change out the tub.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Nice Looking Tub, Bad Instructions I want to start off by saying that for the price this tub looks very nice. It is also the deepest soaking tub I could find in that price range. I would highly recommend this tub to anyone looking for a deep soaking tub without spending a lot of money. I will note though to anyone who does purchase this tub, the instruction booklet that comes with the tub tells you some wrong instructions in a few of the steps. Some of the things it tells you to do are for a different model tub and would have resulted in cracking the tub apron. The best thing to do is to go to the delta website, find this model tub, and look at the instruction booklet they have a download for at the bottom of the page. That will tell you the correct way to install the tub.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light and easy to install. Can only use specified caulk! The tub is light enough for one person to easily install. The water depth is great! I am 6ft tall and can actually take a bath which is a rarity. Plumbers putty voids warranty. The manufacturer suggests only a couple caulks or the warranty will be voided. I used the approved DAP 3.0 which sticks well but is more difficult to use than silicone. The drain depth is in between the short and tall drain linkages. I suggest buying the larger and cutting it down or use a universal pop up stopper that does not have a linkage. I HAD TO DOUBLE GASKET THE TUB DRAIN! With all 3 tub drain assemblies I tried I needed a gasket on the floor of the tub under the top flange, as well as the one underneath between the tub and the drain. The tub drain area does not have a flat surface to get a good caulk seal as it is tapered so I used a caulked double gasket to prevent future leaking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Very Attractive and Deep But a Few Cons Like with many posters, several wall studs had to be notched to accommodate this tub. However, that has nothing to do with the design or quality of the product. Also, my installer had to work a whole afternoon to reconfigure the faucet, etc., due to the tub being much higher than my previous fiberglass one-piece. The tub is quite attractive with the bump-out (which I filled with expandable foam insulation). My installer did wrap the sides and back with batt insulation for warmth. The reason I cannot recommend this tub is that the bottom front is flimsy on each side, despite screwing the sides into the studs as per the manual. This would be less of a problem if the floor tile went completely under the entire tub but it does not. This unwanted flexibility hampers getting a waterproof seal on the front bottom of the tub. The designers should have had the plastic support extend all along the bottom. Pros: Very stylish, roomy and deep Light-weight and easy to handle during installation Cons: Front bottom sides are flimsey and move if pushed on, hampering tub front sealing Acrylic tubs do scratch very easily

Rated 4 out of 5 by from love the tub! I got this for my bathroom and love it. It's been so long since I had a tub! After life with just a tiny shower this is heaven to me. I also got the matching shower doors and tub surround for the complete set. Make sure you talk to your plumber and contractor first and try to be there when everything is being install so that you get the showerhead installed at a good height for you. I tend to max out on the height so that when I move and rent out this apartment taller tenants will be able to use it comfortably! My last place the shower was even too low for me to use properly and I'm short! Back to the tub. It's nice and sturdy and was easy for my contractor to install. Make sure if you have your contractor make sure that everything is plumb and level so that the shower doors will fit properly! If one wall is out of whack it will not go together smoothly! (it happened to me and we had to remove the whole surround and remount it). It all cleans up very well and seems great to me! It's not a really deep tub, but it suits my purposes!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Delta curved tub First, I found this tub to be too thin walled. It really needs a fibreglass backed in several critical places. Second, I found the bracket to hold the face of the front wall to be very inadequate and opted to install a full length piece of 5/4 x 3" on the floor for the wall to rest against knowing that ceramic floor tile would hold it on the opposite side. Third, this product is very deceiving when it comes to room to stand in for an adult as its curved design offers less than adequate moveability when showering. There were scuff marks on the floor of the tub which came off very easy with some WD-40 sprayed on a paper towel which doesnt harm the surface of the tub. Its an o.k. tub for a guest room at best. Pre drilling where installing the mounting screws is a plus and did work quite well . On to the tub walls which are a seperate purchase will be addressed in that purchased review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice appealing style Perhaps one of the nicest strongest features is the ease of installation with the combined strength of nailing directly to the studs. I am firm in strength and this tub starts off on the right foot so to speak. The interior of the tub has a nice slope to the back for sitting or leaning in a comfortable position. The floor has a nice slip resistant surface yet is exceptionally easy to clean. The curve to the tub adds nice character to the bathroom rather than the perfect rectangles of the past. The curved door set which goes with this tub is an absolute show stopper beyond compare. I would use the word stunning to best describe the tub and curved door set together. They look elegant .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from it's nice VERY easy to install this tub! As long as your opening is square and walls are straight that is. I learned the hard way why builders use the big fiberglass inserts. The tub itself is VERY light weight, maybe 50lbs at most. It's made of plastic and has a little flex in it, but once fastened to the walls feels very secure. There are a few things I would like to see Delta do a little differently, such as include the drain and overflow, and put a protective film over the inside that can be pulled off after you are done installing it. All in all a simple tub with a few matching options such as the tub surround and frameless shower door

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much more soaking space We already had an acrylic style tub that had been severely worn from years of use so replacing it with another one was pretty simple. Still, we hired a professional only because we had to change out the shower and tub handles and faucet at the same time we replaced the tub. The instructions were pretty clear and we definitely could have replaced it ourselves, if that's all that was needed. I can't believe how much space is in this tub compared to the old one, it's like we gained 2-3 ft of space in width and length. Made of nice strong material but not too heavy and has a slip non slip material built in to the floor of the tub which is super easy to clean. Best part, a nonslip mat is not needed, which is great. No dirty, moldy mat to clean. The tub looks like something straight out of a magazine. It's very clean and rich looking. Best purchase ever!

My plumber called me over to the house with a problem with both tubs right when he was about to install them. He showed me that they have this black plastic base "glued" to the underside of the tub so you don't have to set them in mortar/thinset. Well, he noticed that when pushing with a few pounds of pressure on the floor of the tub it made a crinkling noise. Sure enough, I took my shoes off and walked in the tub and the whole floor was "crinkling"!!! What JUNK!!! Apparently the glue they use to apply the black plastic base to the acrylic tub failed before it even got installed. Now I have to repackage 2 tubs and return them and find a new tub!!! What a royal pain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well designed tub I'm very happy with this tub. It is very well designed and very spacious. Comparing my older tub to this new 400 curve tub, I noticed how deep it is. I'm 5'6" and when I sit in it it covers up to my chest. The water drains out of it in a normal manor with no water left behind around the edges. The tubs floor is not slippery even when there is soapy water. The tub is very light weight but very sturdy. I hired a professional to install the tub and they commented that it was an easy installation. Last but not least, cleaning the tub is easy and no stains stay behind as I have previously had a bad cleaning experience with my older tub as it was hard to clean the soap stains. Overall excellent quality and design for its price.

I removed an 80 year old, beat up, resurfaced a billion times , cast iron tub This Delta Classic 400 Curve fits the bill and I love it. I purchased this tub for it unique shape which allows better bathing space and greater gallons of water than most modern tubs. Due it beautiful design I have the ability to have a shower door . My bathroom is very small but with little adjustment, I was able to redesign the tub enclosure which makes the bathroom appear larger. The tub is light but substantial cleans and installment easy. If you are looking to update an small old bathroom, this is the one to purchase, My bathroom project is now looking modern. Cant wait to see what it looks like upon completion. Paired this with a Kohl er toilet and Moen fixtures .

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice design I was a little concerned about the weight and flexibility of the tub when it arrived and we did opt to add additional support during the installation. It may have been our paranoia, but I feel better about the sturdiness with the extra support. There's no such thing as an easy to install tub and this one was average. We've never had the good fortune to have a house that was 100% plumb or square, so there are always hoops to jump through. I don't necessarily fault the fixture manufacturers when you have to jump; it's the people who build houses that are a bit off. I do like the style, the depth and the added width of the tub (because it's curved). It is a very nice replacement for the stock "builders" tub that we had in our guest bath. You do have to be careful about the type of cleaning products you use on a fiberglass tub.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Tub Pros: Curved aspect adds a lot of extra room. Additional base support system/grid makes for a stable base w/o mortar bed. Deep and lots of volume. Looks sharp! Cons: The face of the tub is not supported horizontally at the ends. There is deflection when pushed on. (Middle of the face is supported) Direction could include additional information on the fasteners to be used. Moving to acrylic, the tub makes more noise that can be heard on the floor below. I would use the tub again...but would pre-plan a little different based upon my 'Cons' list.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fair Quality Tube but NOT for the novice DIY You will need a 6" 1.5 inch diameter extension for standard overflow/drain kits. The box says the drain center line is at 13.4 inches, the manual says 14.5 inches. I'm glad I measured because it was actually 13.75 inches. The skirt support has to be glued to the skirt. Good luck. After a few tries, plastic epoxy held well enough. Delta doesn't specify what type of adhesive to use and when I asked them, they never responded. I attached two 2 x 4 pressure treated boards to the floor about 12 inches long near the ends of the skirt to act as backing when the tub was installed. This worked well to make the skirt straight over its whole length (it was bowed slightly).

My son now takes his baths in this tub rather than in the master bathroom. He is over six foot and he says there is so much space. This tub hold 60 gallons of water compared to most tubs that only hold approximately 34 - 48 gallons.

Nothing dropped on it or anything. It's going to cost us $450 to have it repaired, or over $1000 to rip it out! Do not buy!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice curved design and good depth I was looking to replace my 30 yr old cast iron shower tub with something wider and deeper. This was a great option for the price. I looked at other tubs but they were too expensive for what I wanted. This is a good product and it could be better if it wasn't that it felt a little flimsy at first. Not too heavy and light plastic, but once installed, it looked great and couldn't tell other wise. It's very spacious and it has a nice depth to soak in. This tub looks great with the curved frameless shower doors or a curved rod.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too narrow at the bottom. :( Unfortunately, I am not happy with this product. I love the outside curved design however the interior space where you stand for a shower is very narrow. On top of that, with the tub surround that we chose - also a Delta product- it is a poor design that gives you very little elbow room because of the design and placement of the shelving. And, because the unit is not very tall, the shower head had to be placed lower, making it awkward for the angle to wash hair and I am not a very tall person. I would not recommend this to anyone. One pro- being a new fiberglass unit, it is so much easier to clean than my previous 40+ year old tub. I was so excited to have a whole new look, but this has been a very poor choice for us. I guess I did not do my homework on researching this and went only by looks/ aesthetics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functional Design Standard size alcove tub but curve adds significant space. Feels very "roomy." Curve has nice appearance also. Curved shower curtain bar matched tub curve exactly. I had professional installation. He appreciated the light weight vs steel or iron. As expected for a replacement tub, the drain hole never exactly matches the old drain which had to be relocated. Installer noted some flex to floor of tub at drain end and commented that he felt the tub needed a little more support on the bottom at the ends of the tub. He normally only grouts the tub-wall interface but because of the flex decided to also caulk. In use I don't notice any floor flex since I stand in the middle. Overall very satisfied and glad I went with synthetic vs porcelain on steel or iron.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of space in this tub We really like this tub, which we installed in our guest bathroom (for the three bedrooms). We removed an all in one tub/tub wall from the early 1990's. It was starting to sag in spots and the finish was coming off in places. The removal was very easy and we were done in no time. Then the trouble began. Our walls are not straight, so this tub didn't fit. I had to do some adjustments (with my multitool) to get the tub to fit. I also had to modify the drain, since this tub drain is placed in a slightly different place. When I removed the tub from the box, it felt a little flimsy, but as soon as it was installed, it felt solid. We did a quickie install and used a preformed wall kit and the original valve. I plan to install a real stone tile on the walls, but that will come when I have more time. I would've liked to have a protective barrier for the installation (some kind of protective peel off film). I didn't scratch the tub, but acrylic does scratch pretty easily, which could've happened during the installation. The tub is deeper and larger than the old one we removed. The curve idea is great and it doesn't take up much more space. The finish seems good and it should last a while. The tub drains well and amazingly, it doesn't get slippery. Overall, I think Delta was brilliant designing a tub with a curve. We're very happy with ours.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Modern Look We installed this tub two weeks ago and are very happy with it. It has a nice solid feel to it once installed. We replaced the original tub in our 1955 home. It looks so much nicer! It has a clean modern look. We also installed the recommended tub surround. If you don't have the time to tile, it is an excellent choice and looks great!
