A:  Dara, thank you for your question. The circles in the glass are frosted while the spaces in between are clear. The circles get larger towards the bottom of the glass so less than 50% see through. ~Best, Delta Shower Doors Customer Care Team

Maya56, thank you for taking the time to write to us.  We want you to know that we are sorry that you went through that experience and that we are committed to delivering safe products to its customers.  All of our glass shower doors are tempered according to strict government and industry standards.  The tempering process creates stresses on the glass that allow the glass to withstand greater than normal forces on its surface.  Tempered glass, although extremely strong, can break if an end or corner is scratched, damaged, or impacted – these types of things can occur when the glass shower door unit is not installed as directed in the instructions provided with the product at the time of sale.  It is uncommon for tempered glass to break, but when it happens, the glass does not splinter into jagged shards; rather, it breaks into small granular chunks to minimize risk to nearby people and property.  We make it a point to understand the details of an incident and would love to learn more about what happened.  We’ll contact you personally to learn more about the situation and to answer any questions. - Best, Delta Shower Doors Customer Care Team Delta-Masco

I just finished installing my Simplicity bathtub door in chrome. They sent the wrong glass, but I can live with clear rather than mosaic. I have tile walls so I had to go get a special porcelain tile bit to drill the holes in my walls (and anchors are not included), but it went fine just following the instructions and knowing what I am doing. This is probably not a standard weekend project for every DIYer. It uses some specialized tools like a tile drill bit, a hacksaw with a 24 TPI blade and mitre box. It is critical that you can read and follow instructions and the measurements on a tape measure to the 1/16th or so. There are a lot of little parts, clear parts, and sharp edges so just bare that in mind before you tackle the project and have a lot of open room. The box alone takes up a lot of space. Time will only tell how it works for me, but the silicone is drying now, but I am confident it will be fine.

I ordered this tub/shower sliding door by Delta from the Depot to replace an old out-of-style sliding door. I trust Delta products and love this style collection. We have already replaced nearly all hardware in this bathroom remodel with oil rubbed bronze colors. The door came pretty quick and packaged well. All the hardware needed for installation is included. I installed this door on a one piece full tub/shower unit. For the DIY’er, the tools and supplies needed are: drill motor, 1/8” and 5/16” drill bit, masking tape, silicone caulk, measuring tape, sharp pencil, hacksaw, file or grinding wheel, and a Phillips screwdriver. The instructions are pretty clear and weren’t to hard to follow. I had a lot of “massaging” to do on the vertical frames and bottom rail to get them to fit well to the radius of the enclosure corners, but the rest was a piece of cake. The door panels are pretty thick and glide very smoothly on the top rail. The finish is consistent on all pieces. The glass is slightly obscured, more frosted I guess, and is a nice touch. We are very satisfied with the door. Looks great, feels high end, and very functional. My only issue was there was an amendment to the original instructions which included applying a drip edge to the bottom of the inside panel. Apparently, it directs water running off the panel away from the bottom rail. The drip edge has adhesive and was to be stuck to the glass. I tried several ways of adhering it in that location, and it did not work. I sprayed the panel with water to check the flow and determined that for my application, that add on piece was not needed.

This is a nice addition to the bath, replacing a shower curtain opens the bathroom up. Frameless is definitely the best choice for appearance, the bronze here is a nice dark shade, matching most other oil rubbed bronze fixtures that more often than not are on the almost black side. The glass doesn't really obscure the view from either inside or out. The only complaints I will make was that the delivery box was dumped on the grass without ups even alerting me. The box was damaged in a way that the insides appeared to slide out and to have been shoved back in.

Now how do you rate this. First off, figure hours to install this. The rails were longer than my enclosure so I had to built blocks, then molly bolt them to the wall so the top rail had sufficient support. There are about 50 steps to installing this, including grinding the rails to fit the curve at the bottom of the tub enclosure, that took some time. I used a table saw with a square to cut the top and bottom rails. Teeth on the saw were sharp and I was able to get a clean cut but going slowly. It is aluminum, and I wanted a perfect cut and I know cutting with a hacksaw wasn't going to cut it. You drill into the enclosure, pretty good size holes then try to force the plugs for the screws into the plastic. Very hard, the round hold was smaller than the square from the plugs so they scraped on the edges and did not sit flush. I squeezed the plugs with needle nose pliers then hammered them in. I didn't like the simpleton method of installing the side rails. Hard to explain but it was not good and would be 'very' easy to scratch your tub enclosure. 'TOO EASY' Trying to get the rails the same depth from the outside edge is a trick because the tub enclosure was not perfectly square, but neither was the wall up to the enclosure, it bowed due to the dry wall putty. The glides work super smooth, I'd, too smooth, kids are going to slam it. The handle was some sort of cheap plastic or metal. I couldn't tell, just that it was cheap. The rail at the top, supporting the 1/4" glass panels appeared to bow in the middle from the weight of the doors. It took me about 7 hours to install, but I am very picky and I ended up siliconing more than the instructions called for. So far, no leaks so that is good. There was just a couple of drops of water on the floor after my shower. Not impressed with this. Note the finished picture below does not do justice. It really looks good when finished but the camera picked up the shower plumbing real prominently. I don't notice it in person.

The Delta Simplicity frameless sliding glass door is a very stylish upgrade to any bathroom with a traditional shower curtain. Let’s get this out of the way first though- it’s not frameless, as all glass shower doors and enclosures require some sort of frame. I’m not sure what they designate it as frameless, the opening has a top rail, two side rails and a bottom track? The kits was complete and came with all the components they describe. You’ll need to own or borrow the tools needed for installation, but they are common homeowners tools. It took about three hours to install as I had to modify how I mounted the top track. Most bathtub surrounds are about 2”-3” shorter than this unit requires to mount, and a 56” or 57” high door kit wasn’t available. You can’t just cut the side legs short as the glass doors won’t fit. The mosaic obscure glass is attractive, the top gliders give it a really modern, upscale look and this one is a huge upgrade over a curtain rod and hanging curtain!

My installation rating here is for DIY people. I have installed two other Delta bath/shower doors but those were semi-frameless and the installation is slightly different. Be sure to check and see how plumb and flat your shower walls are before you even purchase these doors if you now have shower curtains. There is only modest adjustment for out-of-plumb conditions. The biggest issue I had with this install involved the hole size for anchors in tile versus acrylic or composite shower walls. The instructions call for 3/16 inch holes in "masonry" and I assume that includes tile and marble/travertine. I cannot see how one could safely insert the provided winged anchors in most tile without either distorting the anchor or cracking the tile. In the end I used a 5/16" tile/masonry drill bit and the anchors were still quite tight and the screws were even slightly difficult to install with a drill driver. Other than that the difficulty relates to the fact that there are about 50 steps of instructions not including checking to see if you have all the parts. But if you follow the instructions carefully and read twice when necessary the end result should be good. I did find the lack of adjustment for the panel near the showerhead or semi-fixed panel to be a tiny bit of an issue but not a major issue. The door with the large rollers offers plenty of adjustment that is rather clever and so are the cam style nuts/stops that prevent that door from coming off the track. Some parts like the bottom drip rail appear to be anodized rather than chrome plating but that's not my area of serious expertise. That may be true of the top rail as well. I installed this door in a small bath that is divided into two rooms with the vanity in one area and the toilet and tub in another. Switching from a shower curtain to this sliding door made the room seem bigger while the mosaic glass provides a bit of semi-privacy if there is such a thing. The doors glide smoothly on the top rail with the assistance of the bottom guide and the bumpers cushion the hit against the shower walls. The top rail is well supported by end supports that insert into the top of the side jambs as well as having one screw attachment into the side walls. The caps over the outer door trolleys hide the adjustment and attachment screws nicely. I did find one issue with the edge deflectors that I will look into with Delta support. The "wing" of both deflectors are such that neither forms a seal on the fixed door at the shower wall although the upright piece provided does deflect water back toward the tub to some extent. The coated inside of the glass does clean easily as claimed. The 1/4 inch glass is light enough for most people to pull off the installation as a one person job. The 3/8 inch glass would be another matter. Those doors are quite heavy from past experience. I would say that the price is in line with the quality of the product and Delta stands behind its products from 20 years of experience.
