Yeah, no kidding! Actually, with a little effort & small tools you can get the spring to release. However, it will never hold again. We've stopped using Delta because of this & switched to Moen. Moen is about 10% more expensive, but one problem on a typical trim out will eat up any savings with Delta. Plus if customer has a problem, they are not going to be very happy with you.
comes with "insert" type screw anchors for dry wall. Be sure to drive in fully, or springs will not engage. The spring clips mount are garbage. Good luck with that!

I don't think I have ever seen a 40" towel bar as that is over 3 feet wide but you can go to Delta's website and look at what they have. They will list everything they offer. I just bought a 30" towel bar (in the Tesla series) and it is more than wide enough for a towel.
