Can I put three 90 degree elbows in the riser (pipe that goes from the top of the valve to the shower head) without reducing the water pressure that comes through the shower head?
Asked by: RF
Hi RF, I installed one of these in a typical shower installation directly below the inverted shower head. Placing elbows in the flow path will always reduce the pressure to some degree. The issue in this case is whether the reduction is significant enough to notice. If your starting static water pressure is greater than 50 psig and you do not have flow restrictions at the expected shower flow rate, three additional full 1/2-inch diameter elbows would not create more than 20 ft. equivalent length of piping pressure loss. The shower head you install is rated for a set flow rate at pressure. That is where the main loss of pressure occurs. At typical shower flow rates (2.5 to 4 gpm), the small relative loss in pressure from 3 additional elbows should be negligible. Be sure that adequate pressure is available from the piping system at the expected flow rate for both hot and cold water supplies as it enters the mixing valve unit.

Can it work for PEX connection without affecting High-Flow feature? I bought a UNBX for my tub-only setup and a HF version for my shower-only setup. But my plumber told me he is gonna use PEX not copper. I guess he can buy PEX-to-Copper adapters. But would that affect the flow rate?
Asked by: Lily
There are valves that have the PEX connectors instead of the NPT, however, using the PEX adapter shouldn't affect the flow.

How can I increase water pressure?

There is no dedicated shut offs for the shower (meaning all regular valves in the house are fully open. Water pressure throughout the house is fine, but water pressure here is weak. Even with the water saver in the head removed. Any advice?
Asked by: Dave
1. Not all shower heads will flow the maximum water even with the flow restrictor removed. It is a function of the shower head design. Remove the shower head and see what the flow rate it out of the system after the valve is. You can use the bucket method. That will be the max flow possible. 2. Your water pressure is what you get from the source - well or city. Usually you receive about 45 PSI. You can get a meter to check it at your local hardware store to check it yourself, call whoever supplies your water, check what your well pump output is or use the bucket method. 3. "Normally" there is not a dedicated shut off valve for the shower or tub unless you have one installed. They are shut off at the house main. I had shut offs installed when I renovated the shower so I can remove or replace the valve without affecting the entire house water supply. 4. You can check your local thrift stores and sometimes you can find an old shower head without any restrictor that you like the looks of.

The mounting bracket is very flimsy - I prefer the valves that have the mounting bracket as part of the brass casting. On this valve, they appear to be steel add-ons - i..e. they are attached to the brass valve, but not cast into it like the more expensive valves. So once installed, you get some movement of the valve with little force applied. Maybe if you use copper pipes, it's more rigid, but I used pex, so have movement now. Hopefully it wont be an issue once the trim piece is installed. The other drawback is the plastic housing. I am not sure why this is even needed. It is very flimsy with 3 mounting tabs. Mine arrived with one of the tabs broken. Another broke off after I installed the valve and put the housing on it. I am not sure I even should have used it - I think it might have been better putting backer board as close as possible to the round part of the valve, and putting thinset right up to the valve to minimize the opening where water could leak back into wall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bath Remodel I have received this item but not yet used it. My remodel project has not yet started. But it looks very good and sturdy. Heavy brass. Should start the project end of Dec 2018 or beginning of Jan 2019.

The instructions to put the valve parts together are incomplete and the valve parts do not come pre-assembled like every other valve on the market. I had to go buy a completed valve at a “real” plumbing store to figure out what was going on. The poor instructions and price cutting short cuts on the part of Home Depot and Delta cost me a lot of time and money. VERY disappointed.

The Delta cartridge that came with this valve body leaked intermittently for months... Delta replaced the valve springs and rubber seats... Worked for a month then intermittent leak again. A year later, when I addressed the problem again... Delta replaced the cartridge... Worked for a week then dripped every half hour or so.. My water supply is clean and is also filtered just for good measure.. No other faucet problems throughout the house. Had to have contractor back to re grout and calk because of the red mold formed from constant wetness.. Shower still leaks, mold is back and is deep. Shower tray is wearing because of all the cleaning. Very frustrating experience.. I would tear it out but then I would have to retile. Very complicated and unreliable faucet system. Stay away !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality valve body Bought it a while ago, glad I finally got to install it. I had to do a little soldering and I put in a couple of shark-bite valves on the cold and hot inputs so that I can shut off and easily work on it in the future. Had to have some kind of coupler anyway. But, back to the point, this valve body looks like it will last a good long time. Only the cartridge will have to be replaced if it wears out.
