The tile"track" is a part of the shower wall mold and goes completely around the surround. You would still need to tile even if you installed a corner unit. I like the clean lines of nothing in the shower area.

Does this kit have the bath tub along with the surround/walls? Or is it just the surround?

Hello CK, Thank you for your question regarding the Delta UPstile 32 in. x 60 in. x 60 in. Bath and Shower Kit with Classic 400 Right-Hand Drain Bathtub BVS414R model. Can you add a shelf to this system?

Asked by Cowpony March 29, 2020

Answers

Thank you for your question, Cowpony! Although not typically recommended, a shelf can be added provided care is taken when drilling holes so as not to damage the walls. We do offer the Delta Decor Assist corner shelf with assist bar, model #41416-SS as well as an actual shower shelf, model #79980. Please note that wood blocking is preferable behind all wall surfaces and sealant should be used to protect from water seepage. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Delta-Decor-Assist-Transitional-Corner-Shelf-with-8-3-4-in-Assist-Bar-in-Stainless-41416-SS/205857236 https://www.deltafaucet.com/bathroom/product/79980#qaTab Best regards, Edward

Lessons Learned
Overall, the Delta UPstile system looks great and was relatively easy to install. However there are definitely some tips and ticks I learned during and after the installation process. Taking the time to verify everything is level and square to begin with will definitely make the installation easier. My walls were horribly out of alignment which made things pretty tricky to get right and left me with some larger gaps to caulk in the end. Add extra furring behind the walls to give them added rigidity. I added lots of extra horizontal furring and it made the walls feel really solid with very little to no give. If you are renovating an existing bath, be sure to cut back plenty of drywall. The flange that gets screwed to the studs around the tub and shower can be a little thick so when you drywall over it, there becomes a taper. Adding shims to the studs right above the flange will help create a smooth and gradual taper.

Plumber of 20 yrs
Being that this was my first tub shower install of the Delta up style. I found it very difficult to get everything level but then again my house is a 100 year old farmhouse. But the key is to have your tub level than your walls level than your shower doors level. . The key is once a year tub base is level you cannot be unlevel at all. It will show up on your walls then your shower doors if you install shower doors. Installing the one by threes was a little time-consuming. I added more than recommendation for more stability. Do not skip this step these walls are flimsy but once the one by threes are installed behind properly this makes four a five-star shower wall. Very durable at this point. I also added Moen posi temp valves and oil rubbed bronze trim kit I also added a rain shower above. Attached is a picture would I purchase again most definitely but this was my first install of the delta upstile. I'm sure I'd be a lot quicker next time around plumber of 20 years it took me a total of 12 hours on the weekend Friday Saturday and Sunday to wrap up this beautiful job

(What's this)
The Delta Upstile 32 inch by 60 inch by 60 inch bath and shower kit with classic 400 right-hand drain is quite light and easy to maneuver - I believe this is due to the tub and shower panels being made of pro-acrylic material. Installation went much smoother after the original rusted cast iron tub and ceramic tile were removed. I also removed the toilet as well to get more wiggle room; the 60 inch vanity remained in the bathroom. Having a level surface is imperative because the panels either won't line up correctly or they'll be uneven gaps from the bottom of the panels to the tub trying to line up the panels on the walls. I did the main shower panel installation twice; the first way was using only 1x3's as directed in the instructions; however, the panel wall felt too wobbly in places that weren't connected by 1x3's. The second time I added cement backerboard to the 1x3's and that made the panel firmer and less wobbly; I've read and seen other vlogs that add the mold resistant sheetrock instead of the cement backerboard for a firmer panel with this brand and other brand surrounds and haven't had issues in the 10+ years after installation - but to each his or her own Since the bathroom walls range from 59.75 inches in the corners to 60.5 inches in the middle where the side panels would be placed, I had to remove the outer lips of the panels on the main panel and one lip from each of the side panels for it to fit; the lip was easy to cut with a hacksaw and I used a hole saw bit to cut for the plumbing. I did have to raise the connection for the tub diverter because this tub is about 2.5 inches taller than the previous one - blow torch, heat shield, auto-cut copper pipe tool, and copper soldering kit was used. The sealant chosen was the DAP 3.0 Advanced Hybrid Sealant for Kitchen, Bath, and Plumbing,as recommended by the manufacturer; this stuff is messy but effective and does take a full 24 hours to cure. It does hold the glass tile in place in the shower panel niche and doesn't seem to be affected by the grout. I still need to add the ceramic bullnose around the sides to hide the screws - just waiting from them to arrive from HD. If I had to think about doing this again, I think I still would pursue this project but add more support to the panels (i.e. cement board or mold resistant sheetrock) and give myself more time than a week (6-8 hours a day) to complete the bathroom renovation (old tub and wall and floor tile removal, new shower tub installation, flooring and molding, drywall installation and knockdown pattern, plumbing, etc). Nevertheless, I love the way the shower tub combo looks, love the extra 2.5 inches for a deeper tub, and am grateful for the opportunity to complete this renovation.

(What's this)
This arrives on a large truck, but is very light weight. We have not installed ours as of yet as we will be having it installed by our contractor/plumber in the end of May as that is when the toilet should be here. When it comes to plumbing we have to have a licensed plumber in our area. We have looked at the tub and shower and love the look of both, we are looking for a tile we can all agree on and can't wait to see it installed. Seems like it could be easy to install but our bathroom is pretty small and code does not allow us to do our own plumbing which is a hassle, but we want it done correct. Very pretty and like the ability to add a little glam with the tile.

Awesome Kit! My wife and I really love the clean lines and the modern look that the subway tile walls added. We began the renovation of the bathroom 2 weeks ago and once we got to the stage of adding the bath and shower kit it really pulled everything together. Delivery was easy and safe, nothing was damaged. Installation has been nothing but easy but it has taken a little time. Overall, We are completely satisfied with the product and would recommend it to anyone. Everything feels durable and the quality feels long lasting and easy to clean which was key for my wife. Love Love Love the look and feel we are getting.

the mounting system on this product is weak, small sticky tabs to hold it in place while the adhesive has time to dry, with no real way to brace it properly during the cure time. To be more effective, the shower walls MUST be made more rigid with less flexibility.

So far so good, my contractor really liked the surround but he didn't realize how many bottles of caulk he needed! He used 10 at $10 each, just FYI. But he likes the extra stability, he was impressed! Way more stability than even the other delta surrounds. The only thing I wasn't super happy about was the waste of tilels because of he height of the space. When you buy the 11x11 or 12x12 tiles there will be a lot of waste.
