Q:What is spike spacing for flexible roll edging

Answer This Question

A:  There's not set guideline; use based on your curves. Use spikes wherever you need to secure any bend. Straight runs obviously only need on each end and one in middle.

by|Jun 4, 2021

A:  I placed the spikes every 5 ft, depending how big the area is.

by|Jun 4, 2021

A:  Probably every 24" unless you're trying to create a curve of some sort.

A:  Hi Buzz, beside the orange "Add to Cart" button there is a box with a "-" on the left, a "1" in the center, and a "+" on the right. Click on the "+" and it will show "2". Then click the orange "Add to Cart" button. That will put 2 packs of the spikes into your cart where you can then finish your transaction.

Q:Will this plastic spikes work on hard tough soil full of big and small rocks? or do I need to use...

A:  These are pretty sturdy plastic but probably not the best call for soil that's overly dense or rocky since you do have to hammer them down.

    by|Jun 28, 2019

A:  I would use metal. I had one break in soft soil.

      by|Sep 17, 2019

A:  It definitely won’t work on rocks. You wil have to remove those, but they’ll wok, great in hard soil, if you use a plastic mallet to pound them into the ground. Don’t use a regular hammer because the spike will crack.

        by|Jun 27, 2019

          A:  Not likely !

          by|Jul 9, 2019

A:  Yes, these are well built and will not break when hammering down through tough soil or between rocks.

          by|Jun 27, 2019

A:  yews and no if you hit the bigger rocks direct the spike will break but if you have smaller rocks it will go around them

            by|Aug 20, 2019

A:  The ProFlex Anchoring Spikes should work well in most soil types. Be sure to use a rubber mallet and if you hit a rock, do not try to force the spike through the solid mass. Slightly angling or moving the spike can help to avoid rocks. Wetting the soil also tends to help the rocks and debris underground shift with the force of the spike. If you feel the ground is too concentrated with rock and solid debris, metal spikes do have a higher impact strength than any plastic spike. We hope this helps.

A:  Please understand, I ordered my products at Home Depot Online..which includes the spikes. In Central Arizona, it's not known for having great soil...the area we were working this project previously had Bermuda grass AND a Hollywood Cyprus. We removed , tilled and raked debris and some rocks. The turf was compressed rolling a car over the area and leveling. Finally,we set out landscape rails into position and anchored with the PLASTIC STAKES. They were quit strong and still had to punch thru some tough areas...but, they are not chisels nor re-bar..I think you'll be surprised as long as you do some prep for the area.

A:  Metal would probably be better in rocky soil. I moved mine when I hit a rock. Might work in hard soil.

                by|Jul 30, 2019

A:  I would use the galvanized spikes by the nails for hard, rocky soil. The plastic works well in sandy soil, but you want something that will withstand some hammering.

A:  These spikes are really stiff and made out of a hard plastic.I have been using these spikes for a while now to lay a walkway.I haven't noticed any bending or movement out of them. You might want to hammer them in the ground a good little ways. The deeper the better.

                  by|May 5, 2023

A:  Hi Chuckles, the plastic spikes are very durable for anchoring applications, however the composite plastic material may be susceptible to a small amount of “flexing” under load when force is applied from the side instead of straight down on the head of the spike. Our steel spikes may be more appropriate for your application. https://www.homedepot.com/p/ProFlex-10-in-Metal-Round-Landscape-Anchoring-Spikes-45-Per-Pack-1989S-45C/205969502

A:  The plastic stake is hard enough to penetrate the soil, I use a rubber mallet so it would not bend or break. Wet the soil if the ground is way too hard.

                    by|May 5, 2023

A:  These are hard plastic but I'd suggest metal spike or rebar for good anchor point. Your mileage may vary.

                      by|May 5, 2023

A:  Yes, I do believe it will work as an anchor point for a tape measure.
