Good Day Sod, You cannot use 220V you have 240V to run this heater. Thank You Glen Dimplex Americas Customer.

Will the Dimplex 4800 Watt/240 volt heater run on a 20 amp circuit?

NOT a good idea! According to most electrical codes, you should not exceed 80% of the breaker. In this case 4800/240 = 20 amps. You are using 100% of the breaker/wire and there is always the possibility of overheat and fire. The breaker will likely trip after getting too hot. And if the wire in the walls of your house from the electrical outlet to the breaker is only rated for 20 amps it will certainly get very hot. The minimum breaker for this heater is 25 amps @ 240V. Ideally use a 30 amps @ 240 which leaves plenty of unused capacity.

Second one I have owned. The first had thermostat failure after 9 years, still haven't been able to get a new thermostat from Dimplex so would have to say service parts are a little lacking. Heaters both worked well and do heat well. The heater fan shuts off with the element leaving the cabinet hot each cycle which may be the reason for the thermostat failure, but you have to consider the relatively low price for the heater.

It works well
Customer review from homedepot.ca logo
It works very well to warm up the area that was once very freezing and barely warm with the heating solution that we had prior. I would say that it is suitable for a small garage if anyone were to want to buy it.

This thing works great, keeps my small shop nice and toasty and heats up quickly. The only thing I'd mention is that the description on the site says to use a 20A 240V outlet, but when I had one installed I found out that the plug doesn't fit. It needs to be a 30A outlet.

This a great heater producing a lot of heat. BUT, the fan only works when the heating element is on. As soon as it stops heating the fan stops. And that's not ideal for the heating element as well as the other components. It would be best if you use another fan maybe 2' behind in order to get air flowing thru when it stops heating. It will most likely extend the life of the unit. Apart from that it is a great heater.
