Q:Are the electrical terminals on this part male or female?

Answer This Question

A:  I just grabbed one from the warehouse. Unfortunately giving you a definitive answer is not as easy as you would assume; as I only have one half of the Molex connector. It appears to be a male end, but again I don’t have the other half to plug it into to confirm. I called the manufacturer who confirmed it as male. If you want to give me a call I would be happy to text you some close up images. Chris 978 651 3301

    Answer This Question

A:  I am sorry this would not be appropriate. I do not deal with appliance parts. However I have looked for them for myself. I would suggest identifying the model and serial number of your unit. Then based on that source a parts break down. Possibly on the manufactures web site. Once you identify the part number for the igniter you should be able to find it assuming it is a replaceable part.

      Answer This Question

A:  This is a hot surface igniter. Essentially it is a piece of special metal that becomes red hot when a certain current is run through it. When the unit is energized the hot metal is used to ignite the burner on a gas water heater. In the United State there essentially only three manufacturers of tank type water heaters. "Rheem" is one of them. "Advantage Plus" is a series of water heaters made by Rheem. It is the series of water heater this unit is used on. And "SP12143" is the Rheem part number this product is equivalent to. If you pull down the PDF's located in the specification section of the Home Depot listing, you will see other igniters made by this same manufacturer.

The part that the website said was the part for my tankless water heater was the incorrect part, and furthermore the part number for my water heater does not exist in your system. (Part # ECO180XN3). I went into the store to resolve the problem, and was given a total run around. I wound up having to buy a complete new water heater, (instead of just replacing the igniter). PS. I bought the water heater at a reputable appliance store, and I will avoid Home Depot in the future for all such purchases. If this is not specific enough for you feel free to contact me further.

Only worked for 1 day in my voyager heater. I usually get 2 months usage out of the original part.

I am sorry for the inconvenience. Not only should you get longer than a day, You should be getting longer than two months. A consistent shorter life than a year or two suggest to me you have something else going on. HTP stopped making the voyager a while ago which tells me your unit has been in for some time. I would suggest the next time you change the igniter you inspect the burner. There is a tendency on these units for "fuzz" to build up on the burner. If that by product of combustion comes in contact with the igniter it will short it out. Sometimes the contaminant needs to be trimmed off. I would also consider giving HTP a call as you should be getting a much longer life out of any igniter.

            Reasonable replacement.
Not quite an exact replacement. Time will tell if it works/last as long as the original.
