Designed specifically for hurricane prone regions of Florida and the Gulf Coast, the Hurricane Pad meets stringent local code requirements for wind resistance. The heft of this 4 in. pad provides sufficient weight to keep your compressor in place. 7000 psi compression strength will support the heaviest of compressors.
Uses standard tapcon screws to securely mount compressor without the need for costly anchors
Treated to resist water absorption for longer life
Solid concrete rated to wind loads up to 175 MPH
Steel reinforced construction will last the life of the condenser

A:Â The specification sheet does include a unit + pad maximum weight value when used as a "Hurricane Pad", but this also dictates the maximum dimensions of the unit itself when using this pad.

A:Â I drilled holes in it and used regular concrete studs. The problem is it is only about an inch thick to the Styrofoam. I couldn't tighten the nuts as tight as I would have liked to, but I think it will hold. I wouldn't worry about cracking it because it is reinforced with some kind of poly mesh.

Answer This Question
A:Â These pads are designed to work in all cold climates for use with any air conditioner or heat pump. Check the weight of your grill versus the design specifications of the pad to make sure the pad can support your grill.

DiversiTech H1840-4 not HMD1840-4, Standard w/ Foam Interior, Not Miami Dade w/ Thicker Concrete
The Home Depot web page is incorrectly providing information for the HMD1840-4 thicker concrete Miami Dade hurricane pad. The web page incorrectly lists 175 MPH rating, two places and also incorrectly lists solid concrete, both applicable to the HMD1840-4, but not applicable to the H1840-4 that is being sold.
This part is instead the H1840-4, rated at 150 MPH. This part instead has a concrete top, concrete sides, but Styrofoam interior and Styrofoam bottom.
This H1840-4 part weighs less than 100 lbs. The HMD1840-4 Miami Dade version weighs almost 200 lbs. This H1840-4 part is "easy" to move around.
This part is fine for those who don't require the Miami Dade version.
The part was packaged very securely for shipment. Attached w/ stretch wrap to a pallet. Zero shipment damage. Great job w/ packaging!

I decided to stay away from the plastic pad from Diversitech and get this concrete pad. One thing I noticed right off the bat was that it wasn't nearly as heavy as I expected.
So, having marked the location for the 4 holes needed, I loaded the 3/8" masonry bit and drilled the first hole. New bit, was drilling fantastically. I had tape on the bit marking the 2" depth recommended for the bolts I was using.
To my surprise, after going int an inch, maybe a bit more, all of a sudden the bit went down into it as if I had drilled through the bottom. When I pulled the bit out, stuff came out with it, of which one thing I recognized was blue masking tape.
I tipped the block up and looked at the bottom. It turns out that this is a block of styrofoam, encased in concrete. Not sure of the thickness all over. It's maybe a bit over an inch, definitely not two.
Now I will say this...I may regret it, but I did use it. I'm hoping it turns out to be better than the plastic one. I had to change the bolts I was using, which originally were anchor bolts. I moved to a 3/8" lag. I was afraid to tighten it too much.

Diversitech Hurricane 18 in. x 40 in. Was a nominal not actual measurement but I was barely able to fit my heat pump condenser on it.
The weight was correct either, obviously, a nominal value as well.

Not As Advertised!
Note, not a solid concrete product as advertised! Actually a concrete frame filled with styrofoam. The actual thickness of the non aggregate concrete surface is only ~3/4" thick with a integrated concrete edge frame ~1.25" filled with ~3" of styrofoam.

When I ordered two of these, I didn't realize they weren't solid. One of mine broke but I still used them to support a generator shed I was building.
