Asked by: ksbooney
This is not an infrared heater, this is a regular heating coil heater with fan to blow the heated air around the room being heated, this is for permanent mounting from a ceiling for rooms like garages and shops,it will heat my garage from around freezing to 65 in 20 minutes,

It has been said if I have a 240 outlet all I would need to do is get a plug and some wire. Are they talking about an electric dryer outlet? I have a gas dryer with a 240 plug right over it I'm not using. Can I buy a dryer plug and wire for this heater and have it work correctly and safely. If this works I would not need to hire a guy to wire it into the breaker box. That is already done for this dryer plug, right? Laundry room is right next to our garage. Is there a limit on how long of wire I can get? ( 25 to 30 feet of wire ok ). This way I can put it anywhere in my garage as a portable unit.
Asked by: wchound
This is not necessarily true. It is true that this unit uses 240-volts. However, additionally it also has minimum current level requirements. Not any old 240-volt outlet will do.

it says single phase 3000 watt and/or 6000 watt... which is it? does it need to go to 3 phase for the 6000 watt, or is the high/low switch what determines which wattage?
Asked by: Zee
High setting is about 6000 watts and draws about 23 amps and the low setting is about 3000 watts and they are both regulated by the internal thermometer control dial, single phase only so It can be hard wired from a standard 220 volt double pole breaker in a house or garage, mine works great and heats up fast.

Was using this to heat my garage so that when I did finishing on wood it did not take forever. The heater works as intended and is running on a 40 amp 220v circuit. The unit mounted fairly easily and seems to heat up well. The front is easy to use and kind of dial in to temperature. If you are heating a larger space, such as a garage, please note that you will very likely need other fans to circulate the air around the space. With just the heater, it seemed to get very overheated in the upper level of the garage. With a box fan and a filtering fan running, the garage gets to a fairly comfortable and even temperature.

I purchased because it's in the product TITLE line that it's a portable heater - it requires mounting. It's also Not Effective on Low Setting: If you want to warm up with the heater on low, you will freeze because the fan is fast enough that the heat is dispersed so effectively that you feel no heat. With the High setting, you WILL feel the heat, but not low.

It works great, set at low it keeps the shop at 54 deg on a 20 deg night. There is a lot of talk about what amperage is needed to run the unit. Simple math 6000 watt devided by 240 volt = 25 amp. I have mine wired with 10/3 on a 30 amp breaker

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great heater I bought this heater for a garage/workshop heater. The quality of this heater is very good. It puts out great heat even on the low setting. The heater has low at 3000 watt and high at 6000 watt, is thermostatically controlled so you can set it to a comfortable temp and it keeps it there. The thermostat also functions as an ON/OFF switch even though the instructions say to use the 30A breaker for a switch. The louvers across the front allow the hot air to be directed toward the floor and across the room so heat is not just lost in the ceiling. The fan is fairly quiet , yet puts out good air flow. My shop is about 800 square feet with 10 ft. high rafters/uninsulated ceiling (lower 8 ft. of the walls are insulated) with uninsulated rollup doors and it keeps the place warm on 32 degree days with the air flow pointed across the floor. This is a good quality heater and it works great.

For my 1200 square-foot garage with 12 foot ceilings I was able to put it near me and work comfortably at 20°. I think you’d have to leave it on all the time to keep a place reasonably warm.
