So, is this or is it not an Infrared heater? If so what is all this talk about the fan blowing heat?
Asked by: ksbooney
This is not an infrared heater, this is a regular heating coil heater with fan to blow the heated air around the room being heated, this is for permanent mounting from a ceiling for rooms like garages and shops,it will heat my garage from around freezing to 65 in 20 minutes,

it says single phase 3000 watt and/or 6000 watt... which is it? does it need to go to 3 phase for the 6000 watt, or is the high/low switch what determines which wattage?
Asked by: Zee
High setting is about 6000 watts and draws about 23 amps and the low setting is about 3000 watts and they are both regulated by the internal thermometer control dial, single phase only so It can be hard wired from a standard 220 volt double pole breaker in a house or garage, mine works great and heats up fast.

It has been said if I have a 240 outlet all I would need to do is get a plug and some wire. Are they talking about an electric dryer outlet? I have a gas dryer with a 240 plug right over it I'm not using. Can I buy a dryer plug and wire for this heater and have it work correctly and safely. If this works I would not need to hire a guy to wire it into the breaker box. That is already done for this dryer plug, right? Laundry room is right next to our garage. Is there a limit on how long of wire I can get? ( 25 to 30 feet of wire ok ). This way I can put it anywhere in my garage as a portable unit.
Asked by: wchound
Yes you could buy a 220 dryer cord with plug or range cord with plug and simply plug it in but should probably use a 35 amp or 40 amp breaker for the circuit,Yes it's true the longer the cord or wire the more amperage it will draw but usually that is an issue going over 25 or 50 feet but if you have cord or wire that is well over the 35 amp rating you will be fine and range and dryer cords are rated at 40 amp and 50 amp,but I would not use it as a portable ,would be best to find a high wall position or ceiling mount and have it blow down near the floor,it will heat the whole room evenly so you don't need to have it right in front of you that would be dangerous for how hot it blows.

Read all the reviews and was convinced that this garage heater would work in my garage. Installed it in my 2 car garage and turned it on. Temperature went from 28 degrees to 36 degrees in two hours. Nothing near what these other reviews talked about.

It is nice to have the 2 heating options, and the thermostat. I use the low setting to maintain some heat overnight. I am not certain if the lowest setting is the same as an off switch, but I did wire in a wall switch. I am buying a second one for my 40x44 shop.

The only modification I think that would be helpful is the ability to rotate it from side to side. This is not a defect, and it functions well.

It works great, set at low it keeps the shop at 54 deg on a 20 deg night. There is a lot of talk about what amperage is needed to run the unit. Simple math 6000 watt devided by 240 volt = 25 amp. I have mine wired with 10/3 on a 30 amp breaker

This Heater really "Heats" and fast and has a built in thermostat for comfort control. At this price, there really doesn';t seem to another unit that's even in the same league. I did however have to hire a licensed electrician to complete the wiring and installation.
