Questions & Answers

Is this tool has worm gear set up?
ByJun 1, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Hello and thank you for reaching out! The available documentation for the Dremel CS12V (also referred to as DD12V) does not indicate that it uses a worm gear setup. The tool is described as a drill/driver system with standard gearing for its intended applications, but there is no mention of worm gears within its mechanics If you need a tool that incorporates a worm gear mechanism (which is common in high-torque applications like circular saws), the CS12V is not designed for that purpose. It appears to use more conventional gearing suitable for drilling and driving tasks rather than power transmission through a worm gear. My previous answer was apparently mistaken. More knowledgeable sources suggest a range of aftermarket specialty blades will work. Apologies.

The more honest answer is "no", according to owner reviews I've read. No aftermarket blades in this size, either. Unfortunate because the single included blade is unimpressive, with some complaints of jamming, failing to cut mild metal, etc.

I bought this to specifically cut crown molding... after talking with Dremel support, it is not meant for cutting molding so beware.

The Dremel portable saw station is "very well worth it". I have used other hand dremel like tools but they don't have enough power unless you purchase a 20v hand tool that is actually heavier in hand and makes the job a bit harder due to the weight. I am blown away by the power of this tool and how light weight. Would definitely purchase again. Great product

I absolutely LOVE this item. I live in a town house so having big power tools isn’t really an option for me. This packs up so nicely and does SO many different cuts. I wish I had gotten it years ago!

                        Hnady tool for small projects
The Saw Station is a handy item to have for small cutting jobs. It's like having a portable workbench and track guide all in one. Have not used the bevel risers yet but clamps worked great and saw moved smoothly in the tracks. I especially like the laser light to help align the cut. If you have thick lumber or large plywood to cut, then regular circular saw is way to go. But for small projects, this saw station fits the bill; especially for multiple, repetitive cuts. I recommend it.

                          Very Nice Compact Saw!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Alright this is my review of the Dremel Blueprint Compact Saw. So the box that it came in wass solid and informative and the saw and contents were packed very very well. I was really appreciative of how it's packed. And the saw design looks very good. It has a sleek modern design. It’s a 12 volt compact saw and I haven't seen one designed quite like this with the handle positioned like it is. It comes with the manual and safety warning flyer. So first of all about the saw is that I love the lower blade guard which by the way is the most important part of any portable saw. I really like the battery level indicator lights. It will tell you what charge the battery has left. It has an adjustment for changing the angle of the blade position. And I'm really really impressed at how smooth the adjustments are. It comes with a little dust chute to blow the dust away from the blade. I personally would have preferred for it to have had an actual dust bag that attaches to the end of the chute attachment. And it has a safety feature where you can't cut unless a trigger is pressed down which is pretty cool. So my first test cut was a piece of ¾ inch wood and wow…. is cut pretty cool. It still had all the lights showing so I decided to cut another piece of ¾ inch wood. I did notice the lights going to two lights but after cutting it would show all the lights again so I decided to try 2x4. The blade wasn’t big enough to go through the 2x4 in one pass. It would have been really nice if it also came with a blade that was a little bit larger to go through 2x4 in one pass… that would be game changing. And I believe if I know this is more of a finishing type use saw. I don't think it's meant to cut really thick materials. You know if you want to do something quick like cutting some 3/4 inch plywood or redoing the frame of a cabinet and you want to do some quick cuts. You could probably cut a countertop sink cutout. You could do that with this because again I was just cutting 3/4 in and that is the thickness of most countertops where the bowl is going to set in. So this definitely will be nice for cutting out rough outs for countertops. I then tried cutting treated lumber and it also cut well. So overall…grading the Dremel Blueprint Saw from 1 to 10: I would give it a solid 8 and a half. Again, I wish the blade was a little bit larger for cutting through 2x4s in one pass. Yeah…that would be great. And the dust collector attachment is kind of useless without a bag on it. The included metal guide is okay but the chances of me using this attachment a lot will be very slim. I don’t know if I was using it incorrectly or not but it felt flimsy. Again I like the lock for when you change the blade. Nice sleek handle and I love the way that feels when I hold it in my hand. Now for this review I made about five cuts and the battery is already down to two from three lights. So maybe a little bit stronger on the battery capacity. But again definitely pretty nice for some quick finish and trim work. This is a really nice compact saw and I had fun using it.

                            Lightweight and Powerful
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tested this on some scrap baseboard molding by making 90deg and a 45deg cuts. Also used the included Edge Guide. Pros: *not heavy in the hand at all *battery charged up quickly *easy to clean sawdust from tool *the white LED light and the red laser guide are helpful to have *the Edge Guide fits in nicely/securely and inches marked clearly *powerful to cut without bogging down Cons: *when adjusting base plate for 45deg bevel cut, I moved the plate from 0deg setting as far as it would go in guide to 45deg setting. There is a little metal nub that I assume is to show you where you are on the scale (i.e. 22.5deg, 30deg, etc.) when you move the plate and lock it down. However, when I slid the plate to the very end for 45deg cut, the metal indicator seemed to be more at 40deg. After I made my cuts, I used a combination square and confirmed the 0deg setting was square (90deg) and the bevel cut was actually 45deg. The metal indicator nub may need some refining, but as long as you are aware then you can set it accordingly.

                              Glad it’s still a Dremel
Although this saw sled is marketed for Life-sized home improvement projects, it also fills a void that existed in Dremel’s craft-sized woodworking accessories (drill press, motosaw, router base, etc.). Now that I’m older, I find myself doing projects that use thinner materials than what construction projects call for. My 12 inch blade miter saw is too cumbersome and noisy for <1x boards, dowels, and moulding. Whereas a store bought miter box and handsaw is not precise and is also slooooow. This miniature saw and saw sled is the obvious solution. 3-4 inch saws are not new. Indeed, Dremel has offered them for some time for freehand cuts. The saw sled, however, transforms it into something akin to a precision shop tool. To me, it resembles a radial arm saw, which leads me to an important consideration when using it… This is not my first review of Dremel’s saw station. My initial experience was not trouble-free. I experienced a number of kickbacks while sawing, due to years of muscle memory from using other power saws. Once I realized my mistake, using the Dremel has been problem free. Let me explain. The blades on rotary saws spin either clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on what direction the saw is designed to engage the material. The blade’s rotation presses the material against a surface, whether it be the table of a table saw, a fence on a miter saw, or the shoe plate of a handheld circular saw. The Dremel saw is the latter. When its blade spins, it enters the material from underneath and cuts upward. This causes the material to be lifted by the saw. The material presses against the saws’s shoe plate, and the weight of the saw prevents the material from going higher. This dynamic changes when you use the saw on an elevated sled. The material no longer has the weight of the saw on it. Therefore, the wood can lift off the saw station’s table. Dremel solved this: material clamps. You MUST clamp your material down securely if you want to avoid potential kickback. Holding the material with your free hand is not sufficient. The saw station’s surface is somewhat slippery, especially as it accumulates sawdust . The slightest slippage of your material can cause the lightweight saw and its thin blade to bind. It’s the reason Dremel includes clamps and T-tracks in the design. Use them. Because clamping is essential, I substituted some quick-release cam clamps to make setting up somewhat faster. They are pictured in my included photo. Perhaps Dremel with offer them someday as an upgrade as this product evolves. Otherwise, the stock clamps suffice. One last detail… I have only cut boards thus far. I have not tried cutting other materials like plywood, MDF, or polycarbonate. The 20-teeth blades that are compatible with this saw aren’t what is typically recommended for those materials. I considered trying blades from other saw brands until Dremel expands the blade selection for this new product. If you do the same, be certain the blade is rated for this saw’s RPM. This concludes my review. Over all, I’m grateful that Dremel created this convenient, appropriate sawing solution for the lighter materials I’m using these days. Used safely, it deserves five stars as is, but I’m withholding one star to encourage Dremel to emphasize the importance of clamping in its instructions, and expand its blade offerings.

                                Dremel Blueprint Cutting System
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Dremel Blueprint tool is ready to use, requires little time to set up. Working on projects away from home, it’s great to have a system that is light weight, portable and ready to go at a moment’s notice. This system is safe, protecting you from injuring your hand/finger. The noise that is created by the saw is very low, but I still recommend using the proper PPE for hearing. Using the Laser feature helped make very accurate cuts. It also helped when making miter, straight, beveled and rip cuts. The actual cuts were straight, but wished that the cuts were a little cleaner. This could be accomplished with a different blade. I liked using the beveled risers, which were helpful when making cuts on thinner materials. The clamps are great to hold wood in place when making cuts. I also like the small support to hold longer materials when cutting them. Battery Life – the battery life good/similar the other cordless Dremel tools that I currently own. Notation Board – nice to have an area to make quick measurements/references to be able to look back upon when working on a project. The 2x4 cutting guide was great for making beveled cuts.
