Customer Reviews

Dremel Factory Reconditioned 400 Series 1.6 Amp Variable Speed Corded Rotary Tool Kit with Accessories and Carrying Case is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 155.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not the greatest rotory to be found. I got one of these for a x-mas gift afew years ago.Was thrilled even though Id had problems with most all the dremels I owned. But this was heavy duty so I gave it a chance.Only to be even more frustrated, since it developed problems not long after Id got it.It would shut off and not turn on..Without doing exactly that once or twice. Which grew worse with time. After only nine short months it died and that is the very last dremel I will ever own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still great products after 50+ years The Dremel 4000 I just bought was my second one, after giving the first one a real workout for many years. Aside from changing brushes, it always worked well. I have been a Dremel customer for over 50 years, and can't say enough good things about their products and service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from dremel versa I am receiving a free assessors pack from dremel in exchange for my honest review. I used this to polish some my dull area on my granite and to polish my stoppers in my sink. Amazing what a difference it has made. Love it!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Strike 2! I'm at a loss here. I bought my first Dremel not too long after the 4000 came out. It was used moderately for sharpening and polishing. To my surprise, it failed not much more than a year later when the On/Off switch started sticking and eventually got stuck in the on position. Finally got it to power off, but never got it to power back on. Gave it to my brother (out of state) who is a "tinkerer" who finally got it running again but to no avail, as it only lasted a couple weeks for him before dying completely. In need of another tool to fix some tile backsplash around an outlet, I purchased another Dremel 4000, hoping my experience was just a fluke. Worked great for the tile job and used sparingly ever since. Fast forward to last week. I grab my 4000, which is kept in the case, for a similar tile job and the switch is sticky when I try to power On. Sure enough, I flick it on and off and it fails to turn on. I use an air compressor to clean all of my tools before they are put away. Never have I had anything like this happen with any of my tools. Do I allow Strike 3,or just move on?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Skimping on build quality I wanted a rotary tool and Dremel was the first name that came to mind. I also wanted a corded model since I don't want to deal with batteries, and I'm willing to pay for more capacity/better build quality so I went for the 4000. I was surprised that the price wasn't higher for their top model. When I got home and tried it, it felt like it should be running more smoothly. Every second or two while it was running (at 15k or so) and not being used, something would hitch in the unit and cause it to jerk a bit, torquing a little in my hand. Not enough to make me feel like I would drop it, but more than I think something rated to 30,000rpm should. Moreso, however, the speed selection knob felt unacceptably cheap. I do not exaggerate when I say it bends nearly as easily as a milk jug screw-on cap. And there was a lot of play in the selection of the speed itself. The slight unevenness of running I could have chalked up to maybe getting a bad unit, but the extremely flimsy-feeling speed selection makes me think it's more a matter of building the thing too cheaply. I guess that explains the low price. So I returned it for a refund and am going to look at other brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic gift that I love using! I never had a Dremel before and always used my dads(395). I got this as a gift and love it so much. I love the power. Drilling into wood at low speeds so as not go all the way through it doesn't slow down at all! Grinding and sharpening knife blades without trouble. And anything else you can imagine. The keyless chuck is awesome. I just find any little thing to have to drag it out to use or play with it. I can't stop buying stuff for it to fill my case. What I wish is that more accessories came in the standard case other than the small selection. But my only real complaint other then attachments costing a bit is that I don't have enough things to use it on! It's a blast to use and I hope I can continue loving it as much as I do now long into the future. I very highly suggest getting it for yourself or as a gift. The power and functionality is awesome! You won't regret it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from HIGHLY DEALED WORK Most of my work with my Dremels, ( I own a new 4000 unit and I have my old faithful 385 unit from 1980), are used to help me create museum models of old sailing ships. I find both tools and the accessories help me dress and shape the boxwood, mahogany and cypress woods that I use to create these plank-on-frame models. I make my own fittings and the Dremels help with the shaping of the soft brass, copper and white metal blanks that I employ. The adaptability of these tools and their attachments to accept all forms of burrs, grinders and sanders make some very detailed work a little easier. I use a variety of jewelers tools and other flexible shaft machines, but for the cost vs. capabilites ratio the Dremels come out way on top. I am glad that I discovered them so many years ago. They have helped me make this hobby of mine a lot of fun. So, here's a long belated thank you to the Dremel engineers and the rest of the company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expectations fulfilled. Dremel Quality. The first time I used a Dremel product was with this tool. I really am happy with this tool mainly because of the adjustable speed.  It has never failed me or acted up on me.  I had the opportunity to meet with the Dremel company through my job and I was able to ask lots of questions.  The most helpful piece of information they gave me was how the tool has electronic feedback and reserve power to maintain speed when working on something slightly taxing.  I think the fact that I used their top tool to start my Dremel experience made me really see the quality of the brand.  If you want full versatility and reliability of a Dremel rotary then try the Dremel 4000. You will enjoy the adjustable speed and the motor will work in the background maintaining speed and you won't even know it.
