This tool works better than a skill saw. Depending on open the cut is, you might need to use a dremal or jig saw to finish the corners

I have a few bamboo stalks growing in my backyard approx 1in in diameter. Would this little saw cut through the bamboo stalk?
Asked by: Beanie
Yes it will cut thru the bamboo. Although Bamboo is very dense and hard. I would look at the cordless saws available at Home Depot. The blades on the saw-max are small in diameter so you may need to go around the entire bamboo sheath, with a larger diameter cordless saw you will be able to cut thru from one side. The bamboo usually grows close together so it may be a challenge to cut from one side of the bamboo plant with the small diameter blade on the saw-max. Also if the bamboo is outside in your yard cordless is very convenient to use.

I was given some granite countertops and wanted to put it in my kitchen. I was quoted 2,000 just to have it cut and installed. I was not going to pay $2,000...way high and we are in a small area with no competition. I did some research and decided to try this tool. I was very sceptical that it would really work. I did wet cuts through the granite and it cut right through. I used 3 blades for the whole thing. I probably switched more than I needed too. It's very quite and easy to handle. I have already used it to cut wood and plastic as well. Amazing tool especially for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Bang for the Buck! I purchased this saw to use on my job in general handyman type work but primarily for cutting holes in 5/8" Sheetrock. and making cuts in baseboard, door trim etc. I frequently need to cut out an inspection hole in ceilings for maintenance personnel to check the plumbing when a leak occurs. Hand sawing fire rock (5/8") with several coats of paint and texturing on it is not easy but this Saw Max saw really is a work saver. I've tried other saws but they were too hard to maneuver and made too much mess. The smaller blade on this one makes less mess but really cuts quickly and efficiently and is easy to maneuver with the convenient finger squeeze trigger and easily operated trigger lock release. This is actually my first ever Dremel tool and I'm really impressed with it's power and ease of operation. I think it really meets up to the Dremel reputation for quality and versatility. I plan to purchase the accessory that is used for making accurate miter cuts in trim wood and also the flush cutting wheel. Very inexpensive additions that give the saw even more versatility. I'm certainly happy with my Saw Max saw and feel it will serve me for many years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy little cutter Bought it to avoid using a full sized circular saw to do plunge cuts to remove damaged sections from a wooden security cabinet. Was able to make clean cuts and install replacement sections of 3/4 thick wood. Easy handling, easy blade replacement, easy depth adjustment. Just plain easy.

I purchased this to help me cut and install laminate flooring as well as cut out some bad sub floor. I hope to use it for other applications as well. For the laminate, it worked well to cut through the flooring. I was able to cut and install an entire 16x16 room on one blade. The blades are easy to change with the supplied hex wrench. The marks on the guard make it easy to line up to make a straight cut. The guard is adjustable for depth as well. The saw does seem to get really dirty with sawdust but this didn’t seem to bother the motor or the operation of the saw. It does get fairly warm with prolonged use.

I don't understand why, my first review was rejected even thought it was pretty positive. I was trying to decide between this and the Dremal saw max. For what I was doing, (making flush cuts against wall to remove old subfloor, ) I determined that this was a much better option to make quick cuts. I don't regret the decision, and it was as quick as I hoped for. (capacity is only a little over 3/4 inch depth if that is important to you. I was able to set it to 3/4 inch and correctly make my cuts.) My only gripe is that although there is a flush cut blade included with the saw. (thanks Dremel!). The store does not carry flush cut blades for the ultra-saw so I had to order them. I would be interested in buying the dust/vacuum adapter the manual mentions. Not on the HD website to order and I could not find a place to order it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very handy tool for home use The Dremel 6A Saw Max Tool is a very handy tool that can be used to cut different types of material. Size & Design: The size and weight of this saw are reasonable and allow handling with ease. The tool is well designed and fits in your hand like a glove. This allows you to cut with confidence. Power: This saw is corded (runs on 110V) and the cord length is approx 6ft. The tool is powerful enough for most home projects. Quality: The tool feels sturdy and of good quality. It comes with a 2 year warranty which gives me more confidence and assurance. I have had it for a few days only and I cannot comment on its durability. Test: My first test of this saw was to cut an opening in drywall (check the pics). Cutting was a breeze but it produced an unbelievable amount of dust, whereas a cleaner job could've been performed using a manual jab saw / drywall saw. Of course this was just a test so it doesn't matter, but something to keep in mind if you plan to cut through drywall in a furnished home. What's in the box: My saw came without a case for storage/transportation. I also received only two wheels: one for metal and one for wood/plastic. The picture of the product on the HD site shows two more wheels: one for tile and one multipurpose. This could just be because I received this product through the Seeds program. I received no other accessories.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rugged quality The Dremel Saw-Max fits a narrow niche in the tool box; and has almost no common brand competitor. It is by far the best solution for small, tight area cut-offs. I was a little surprised that the wood blade grinds, rather than cuts, the kerf; but it works fine. This tool with the metal blade was the only method I had to cut down a metal-clad exterior door. Very clean cut, but got hot enough to burn the wood beneath. No variable speed, which is probably intentional to avoid hang starts, but hold it securely. Very rugged, surprisingly heavy. Plunge depth limited to 7/8".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very versatile I bought the Saw-Max a few weeks ago to help me remodel my granddaughters room and build her new furniture. I am here to tell you that this tool helped me complete the task in record time and the precise cuts I was able to make allowed me to make furniture a cut above the quality I usually get with my big clumsy hand tools. I have been using Dremel products for 25+ years and always expect the best, but with the Saw-Max best just got better ! Thanks, I love it !

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Somewhat usefull but slow The primary reason I bought this saw was to cut out pieces of subfloor. For consistent results you have to replace the blade frequently. It's very slow and finally I got frustrated and busted out the circular saw to do most of the cutting. Flush cuts is a nice feature, but again it is a slow process. If you're primarily cutting wood, get yourself a good mini-circular saw instead.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Perfect tool for my art fabrications I work in several mediums and recently found great use of the chicken bone. Has strength and durability when dried but not that easy to cut and shape due to the medium being a bit brittle when dried. I have used a hand saw and to some extent a 4" wheel. This little machine, by far is the best fine work chicken bone material cutter I have found. I'm sure it can be used around the house of a100s of other small tasks. Not really a working mans tool but for my small scale work, nothing is better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mosaic tile work Got talked into putting up mosaic tile as a kitchen back splash and of course when I hit the first outlet to contend with I started thinking the mosaic was a bad idea. Then I saw this tool online and thought it might work to make the straight line cuts without having to remove each piece from the backing. Went to the local Home Depot to check it out. The salesman actually tried to talk me out of it, but my frustration level was high so went ahead and got it. Man am I glad I got it. Made the work much easier, in most cases not having to take the individual little pieces off the grid. Tool cut well (got the diamond blade with it). Occasionally had to augment with a diamond bit in my little cordless Ryobi Router. For me a great buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Tool I bought this after starting to replace the windows in my house and discovering that I needed to trim the siding around the old windows to remove them. After attempting to use a circular saw I decided I needed something a lot lighter and easier to handle and decided on the Dremel SM-20. I was amazed at how easy it was to guide by hand. Just mark a line and follow it. I also used it to rip several lengths of 1x4 up to 7 feet long. They almost looked like they were done on a table saw. Definitely a tool that's worth its weight in gold.

Great for the price but had to buy another blade for close cutting to edge and difficult to cut on tight side of the saw as designed for left side cuts.
