MIKE, GOOD QUESTION AS SOME COMPANIES USE MERV WHILE OTHERS USE FPR. THE DU PONT FILTERS USE MERV.AN EXACT CONVERSION TABLE I DO NOT HAVE. HOWEVER, THE DUPONT PLATINUM ARE A MERV 10.- EXCELLENT. FOR THOSE OF US WITH ALLERGIES OR LUNG PROBLEMS, LOOK FOR A FILTER WHICH IS MERV 13 OR MAYBE YOU JUST CARE ABOUT YOUR LUNGS . WE ALL SHOULD AS REPLACEMENTS ARE RARELY AVAILABLE.

Hi! I have a lung disease which prohibits me from using any filters/purifiers that omit ions. Could you please tell me if this filter omits ions. Thank you!

THESE FILTERS-ALL OF THEM-ABSOLUTELY DONOT PRODUCE OR EMIT ANY IONS.WATCH OUT FOR AIR CLEANER MACHINES SOME OF WHICH HAVE ION GENERATORS. AIR CLEANERS THAT USE ELECTROSTATIC METHODS PRODUCE SOME IONS BUT USUALLY HAVE CONVERTERS TO CANCEL OUT MOST O3 THAT IS IONS IN THE AIR.

DON, GREAT QUESTION! SIMPLY, DU PONT FILTERS DONOT HAVE A CARBON LAYER LAYER BUT THEY DO HELP CONTROL ORORS. HOW? THE FILTERING MATERIAL HAS BACTERIOSTACTIC QUALITIES MEANING THE FILTER DOES NOT COLLECT ODORS AND IT FILTERS THEM OUT OF THE AIR -PERIOD.THAT IS WHY I DO NOT LIKE HEPA FILTERS WHICH ARE VERY EFFECTIVE IN COLLECTING THINGS BUT,TEND TO COLLECT ODORS AND KEEP THEM SENDING INTO THE AIR AS THEY ARE OFTEN NOT REPLACED FOR A YEAR OR MORE.

YES,IT WILL DEFINITELY HELP BUT AMERV 13 FILTER WOULD DO A BETTER JOB. 3M FILTRETE HAS AN EXCELLENT ULTRA FINE PARTICULATE FILTER. ALSO REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR FURNACE CONSTANT RUN OR AT LEAST WHILE SMOKING UNTIL IT CLEARS. ATTENTION ALLERGY SUFFERERS- KEEPING YOUR FUNACE FAN ON AND WINDOWS CLOSED IN APRIL/MAY WILL HELP REDUCE MISERY.BEST TO CHANGE THE FILTER MONTHLY FOR MAXIMUM BENEFIT SUMMER FALL WINTER AND SPRING AS IT IS THE TINY PARTICULES THAT STAY IN YOUR LUNGS FOREVER.
