Featuring a unique embossed non-woven technology from the trusted name in total building envelope solutions, Tyvek Protec Roofing Underlayment is ideal for renovation or new construction projects. Tyvek Protec 120's 4-layer construction provides industry-leading walkability in dry, wet, hot, cold and dirty conditions. The underlayments are ideal for jobs from renovation to new construction and designed for slopes 2:12 and higher under a variety of roofing materials.
  • Top layer features grooves for dirt and water flow
  • Lamination layer acts as a water barrier
  • Woven polypropylene scrim provides added strength

Q:Can I use this product over existing shingles before installing metal roof

A:  Hello Jane - No, this product and all of our Tyvek® Protec™ product should only be installed over a dry, smooth, clean and defect-free roof deck. Tyvek® Protec™ cannot be installed over existing roof cladding.

    A:  Hello Maria - No, the DuPont™ Tyvek® Protec™ is a roofing product. It has not been tested for use on wall or vertical applications. There is another factor as well, the Protec™ products are Class I Vapor retarders (vapor permeance of 0.1 or less). Use of this products could potentially cause moisture inside of the wall cavity to stay in the cavity instead of drying to the outside.

      A:  Hello Johnd - In looking at the installation guide for the DuPont™ Tyvek® Protec™ products, the Tyvek® Protec™ 120 is not suitable for tile, but the Tyvek® Protec™ 160 & 200 are. The DuPont™ Tyvek® Protec™ Tyvek® Protec™ meets or exceeds the following code criteria and test protocols: – AC188 (Intertek CCRR-1062) – ASTM D226 types I & II – ASTM E108 – CAN/CSA A123.3 – CAN/CSA A220.1

        A:  Hello Randy - No, the Tyvek® Protec® product are vapor impermeable, which is not recommended for sidewalls. The correct choice would be one of the Tyvek® WRB products like the HomeWrap®.
