Q:My shed has particle board siding which needs to be replaced. Even though the walls are in contact with the ground, they have lasted over 30 years. How long will DuraTemp last when making contact with the ground? Should I coat the bottom with a sealer?

Answer This Question

A:  Hello. Thank you for your question. DuraTemp should not come in contact with the ground. Allow at least 6” between the bottom edge of the siding and the finished grade or horizontal surfaces.

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello. Thank you for your question. DuraTemp is not waterproof but it is water resistant if installed and finished properly. DuraTemp cannot be in constant contact with water. Allow at least 6” between the bottom edge of the siding and the finished grade or horizontal surfaces. Proper finishing of plywood siding protects it from weathering, reduces maintenance, and improves the appearance and performance of the siding project. To begin the finishing process, the wood surface must be clean and dry prior to any finish application. An all acrylic-latex paint system will do the best job of sealing the wood from moisture and ultraviolet exposure from the sun.

Decided to bring back to life an old, weathered, shed. First, installed vinyl siding, but needed something for the doors. This worked perfectly. The only thing worth mentioning is be careful when choosing your sheet and watch for warping. Overall, happy with the purchase. -Mike- Brunswick, Ohio

We are in the process of building a 12 x 16 shed and used many sheets of this siding and not from one lot. We choose this due to it's smoother finish thought it would be easier to maintain. The big problem with this Duratemp are the holes that are created in the sides of the raised panels. There are tons of these. We thought paint would fill in these holes but after two coats of premium paint with primer the holes are still there. I just called Roseburg who makes these and you have to caulk all these holes and then paint them. So I think we would have gone with a regular T1-11 if we knew we had to fill all these holes with caulk. This will be a long and tedious process to fill all these little holes and paint over them. Apparently Roseburg had made a better version but shed builders didn't want to pay extra so Roseburg went back to this holy version. It will also be a huge headache to have to touch up the holes when the caulking starts cracking.

I chose this product to side a car port turning it into a garage of sorts. Product has been installed for 6 months now and has maintained its appearance well. I purchased this product because of its 50 year guarantee and because it came pre-primered saving me some work.
