Product Overview

As global energy consumption grows at exponential rates, so does the demand for energy solutions that are both more environmentally responsible and more efficient. The Durostar DS4850EH has a dual fuel system that operates on either standard gasoline or cleaner burning liquid propane which can more than double you generator's run time. With the DS4850EH, operating on propane will not gum up or foul your generator's carburetor and will give you quick, reliable starts every time. It only takes a few seconds to switch over from regular gas to propane and with the flexible line, you can easily hook up any size propane tank including the 1 from your barbecue. And unlike gasoline, propane can be stored for years without going bad. The Durostar DS4850EH unit features a 7 HP Air Cooled Engine and is designed with a Low-Oil Shutoff Sensor to protect the Motor. It offers the switching capability of running on Propane or Gasoline fuels. Built to offer more power and longer lasting durability.

The only difference between the Duromax and Durostar products is the color cord and the factory they are made at.

Will this Generator Carry A4 bedroom house?

Asked by BBB August 11, 2020

Answers

I've got this for a 2 bedroom house. 3 people. Yes, 4 would be doable... but, no ac, no range, no electric dryer... and because it's not an inverter, You can't run sensitive electronics directly off of it. You would need to purchase a battery backup, that has double conversion.

how long does a tank of propane last?

A 20# take like for a BBQ grill is said to last 20 hours. My guess is that rating is based on no peak performance. I would recommend planning on 15-18 hours and have a 2nd tank ready.

4 Stars, but I would buy again.
I purchased this unit about 6 weeks ago. When it arrived I assembled it per the instructions. I am a former industrial engineer who used to write instructions for jobs and operations. The instructions were poorly written. Not that it was bad English, but it gave you no point of reference. For instance, you couldn't tell which end of the generator to mount the resting feet- they could be mounted at either end. And, the axle was actually off center so you had to know which way to put on the axle. Small things. The funny part, there were no instructions or steps to connect the battery. Again, small thing. So I hooked up the generator to propane, double checked the starting instructions- which were fairly straight forward. The unit would not start. Having read other reviews I knew this could be problematic. The choke was supposed to be fully open to the right per the instructions. So, on the 7th try or so, while cranking, I slid the choke over half way... it fired! A couple more times and it fired up and ran very smooth. I let it run almost 5 hours with no load. I plan on changing the oil now to make sure no metal shavings are present. A week later, I actually connected the generator to my house. For those interested, I added a 40 amp breaker to my electrical panel with a receptacle on the outside wall using 6/4 wire. I created an extension cord to run from the 30 amp connection on the generator to the outside receptacle using 8/3 w/ground SOOW wire. To use: I throw the main house breaker to off position, throw the new breaker to the on position, crank the genset and then throw the 30amp breaker on the genset. Worked perfectly! I gave it 4 stars for 2 reasons: 1) I had to replace the first unit. 2) The instructions are poorly written and a bit confusing. But I do recommend the unit. It runs great. The noise level is that of a lawn mower and easily handled my house which at the time of first trial, I had a refrigerator, deep freezer and house lights on. (no furnace or a/c running yet) I hope this is helpful P.S. I found that it stores easily as well. P.P.S. Recommend having shipped to store not your house.

Only had chance to start up generator for break-in. Started with little effort, ran smoothly, and was quiet for an engine of that size. Only ran on LP, very impressed with that feature, will only use gasoline if needed during a power outage.

Generator works. I haven't placed big load on it so I don' really know how many items I can run off of it. We bought the generator mainly to supply power to our refrigerator and to run small appliances/radio when we lose electricity after a major storm.

Have not used the generator yet, except for a brief trial run on propane. But... the carton was almost destroyed when delivered; the instructions for assembling the wheels and handles are non-existent, and the illustrations in the instruction book are so poorly printed as to be almost unusable.
