Product Overview

The Dustopper makes tackling the messiest jobs a breeze while also keeping your wet/dry vacuum free of dust and debris. Dustopper’s specially designed chamber snaps onto any standard 5-Gal. bucket and collects more than 99% of dust and debris before it reaches your vacuum. This vacuum accessory keeps your filter clean and prevents the suction loss commonly caused by a clogged filter; now you can spend less time cleaning out your vacuum and filter and more time doing the work you love. With its low-profile design, the Dustopper makes efficient use of space, making it ideal for any job site, workshop, or wherever you may need it. It’s easy to set up and can be ready to go in under a minute, straight out of the box. No holes to drill, no screws to tighten and no sealants to apply. Simply remove Dustopper from its box, place it on a standard 5-Gal. bucket, and connect it to your shop vacuum with the hose and elbow provided. Disposal is as easy as lifting the Dustopper from its bucket and carrying the collected debris away.
  • Extends filter life by collecting more than 99% debris before it enters your wet/dry vacuum
  • Low profile design makes efficient use of precious shop space and sets up in under a minute with no additional hardware
  • Prolonged filter life keeps your vacuum running at peak efficiency for longer
  • Fits on a Homer bucket or most standard 5 Gal. buckets for easy disposal of debris – no need to break down your vacuum
  • Fits most wet/dry vacuums having a typical 2-1/2 in. hose and accessory port
  • Made of durable, anti-static resin and is strong enough to handle the toughest jobs
  • Recommended for use with vacuums of 4.5 HP and higher

would this work with a 55 gal plastic drum

Yes, its easy enough to cut a bucket about an inch below the the handle ring, use than to mark and cut a hole in your drum lid, then silicone the "bucket" into the drum lid. The ring and silicone provides a very goo seal.

Will it still work if I line the Homer Bucket with a disposable plastic trash bag?

The bag would need to be very secure. But even then, it may affect the cyclone action of the unit...I just periodically dump out the pale to a smaller garbage bag. Really very little mess.

Here is your solution. Older Ridgid vacuums like the model 1270 may have an input port that measures 2-5/8". The hose that is included with the Dustopper is designed to work with newer vacuums having a 2-1/2" (nominal) pick up port. The Home Depot sells a kit VT2520, that includes a 7' hose and three adapters. One of those adapters is compatible with RIDGID vacs having the 2-5/8" hose port. If you pull very hard on one of the hose cuffs connected to the Dustopper's 36" hose, it should come free (you won't hurt the hose). Then you can replace that cuff with the 2-5-8" adapter that came with the kit. (it is the one with a red tab that engages a lock on the vacuum). Now your Dustdopper's 36" hose will interface to the 1270. Now, take the one of the other adapters that came with the kit and insert it into the kit's 7' hose on end with no cuff. At this point, you will have everything to complete the setup with your Dustopper.

You can get various adapters to reduce or enlarge vacuum ports from Home Depot. It might affect the air flow some, so test it out a bit before committing to a big sanding job.

Great dust separator for the small workshop
I have two of these that I have been using for quite a while. One on a fixed system piped to various machines and a floor sweeper where I can sweep a large area of my shop easily. I also have a portable one on a cart since I do woodworking outside and need mobility, plus I work at other people's houses and it's nice and compact. Works great even with the small vacuum I'm using with it. I really like the low profile of it. I ordered extra 90 degree fittings from Dustopper since they seem to be the only available that work for what I needed.

The Dustopper is the quickest route to collecting dust before it hits your vacuum. I only need it for the occasional sandblasting or table sawing. I built the PVC pipe rack shown on the box (there is also a You Tube Video showing how its done). Makes a good combination and it comes with a short vacuum hose.

Useless, Over Priced, Poor Design DO NOT BUY
Stopped virtually none of the dust from getting to the shop vac. Other attachments costs half this much use water by place the inlet hose under water. The vacuum hose is on top. The vacuum in the bucket draws the inlet air through the water, water traps the dust with no loss of suction power. Thought this did the same. It does not. By contrast this is terrible. It has some weird baffle inside the dome cap which does nothing. It cuts the suction power of the vacuum substantially. The little dust it does collect ends up stuck at the inlet. You must remove the inlet hose while it running so the trapped dust is sucked into the bucket. If you shut the vac off, the dust falls on the floor. Total sham, waste of money. Bought this Sunday 11/29/2020, returning it 11/30/2020. Product claims it stops 99% of the dust from getting to the shop vac. Does the attached PIC look like only 1% of the dust got through to the shop vac?

Just add a small shopvac and 5 gallon bucket and you have a dedicated dust collection for your miter saw!
I got tired of having to drag around and hook up a shopvac to my miter saw which I use frequently for my woodworking hobby. After I built a new cart for my miter saw I invested in this Dustopper and a small 4 gallon Ridgid shop vac with 5HP, along with a power switch that turns the vacuum on when the saw is running and off after 10 seconds after the saw stops. This Dustopper is easy to install, simply snap it onto the top of a 5 gallon bucket, unlike the other product option where you have to cut holes into the bucket lid and mount it, this one also includes a short hose which worked great for hooking directly to the vacuum so I could use the longer vacuum hose to run from the Dustopper to the miter saw. After some cutting I checked the bucket and the shop vac and all the saw dust was in the bucket, none made it to the vacuum.

Works, but it is fragile.
I've had this item in my shop for more than a year. It has worked wonderfully with my shop vac for dust collection. It's a little bit fussy to use as the hoses make the bucket fall over when you move it around due to the bucket and topper being so light. Overall I would definitely recommend this for garage/weekend woodworkers. BE CAREFUL with it as I was moving it today and it fell from a height of about two feet, landed on its top and broke. The plastic is MUCH more brittle than plastic used to make a typical 5 gallon bucket. At $45 each this is a fairly spendy lesson in dustopper durability.

Customer review from homedepot.ca logo
I don't normally take the time to write reviews, but this product works really well, and I appreciate when other people write reviews. When I saw this product I was skeptical. How could a little piece of plastic keep the dust out of my shop vac. But I tried it and I'm so glad I did. I am amazed at how well it works. I have filled the bucket 3 times with MDF sawdust (really fine dust), and the vacuum canister is empty, and my filter is perfectly clean. I have no idea how it works, but it does. See the photos. The filter looks dirty because I've been using it in my vac for a while and only got the Dustopper recently.

This is a super handy device. I had to cut some Styrofoam, and I hate it if your knife is not really sharp, you end up with a lot of those little Styrofoam balls all over your shop. I was wondering if they would end up in the bucket, or end up clogging my vacuum's filter. GUESS WHAT! They ended up in the bucket with all the other sawdust and debris. I've read complaints that, because it's so lightweight, it's easy for the bucket to tip over, so I put my vacuum and my bucket with the Dustopper on the bottom shelf of a rolling stainless steel rack on wheels. I cut the hose (between the suction of the vacuum and the outlet of the Dustopper) shorter so they would sit better on the shelf together. I haven't ventured into multiple hose connections, blast gates and all that - right now, I just plug my radial arm saw's dust hose in, or plug my shop hose into the Dustopper's suction port, and things are working out just fine. I'll add multiple connections later. I actually used this combo to vacuum all the sawdust out of the tub under my table saw - quite a bit of sawdust, along with some of that very fine sawdust from cutting cheap paneling. It ALL ended up in the bucket, and my vacuum's tank was empty! The only reason I didn't give it more stars for value and quality is because it seems a bit cheap on plastic for the price. Otherwise - I think this is going to be a great asset.

Bought a few weeks ago after replacing my shop vac filter yet again. My 5 gallon bucket is 4 inches from completely full of sawdust. As you see from the photo, my vac has barely anything in it and my filter is spotless. Wish I had gotten one of these years ago!
