Questions & Answers

Can this tape be used to stop leaking pipe in basement under bathroom?

Asked by: Lenny
If the pipe is DRIPPING due to condensation, yes. Thats what I used it for in my basement so my gym equipment wouldnt rust! If you mean theres a split or a bad seal in a pipe and its physically leaking, than no you have to seal the leak.

Can this be used on plastic tubing? My dishwasher drain line freezes in winter.

Asked by: Sara
This is an insulated wrap that is sticky on one side, so it should stick to the plastic tubing. I have wrapped pvc and copper pipes with it and neither have ever froze with this on them.

I'm insulating Glycol lines in a brewery, I'm using Everbilt foam self seal pipe insulation, would this product work to seal the connection of the foam insulation or should I look for another product?
Asked by: Jon
The adherence strength of this tape is not very strong. Also If the glycol is cold, I fear that Your seal would not be dependable enough to prevent pipe sweating, which would more than likely destroy the adherence. I used the tape to insulate the exterior of an egg incubator molded plastic construction operating at 100 degrees, with no concern for moisture or sweating. Your insulation mfgr. should be able to recommend a suitable product. PS: If you can get the butts tight enough, You might have success with aluminum duct sealing tape which offers a very strong bond to smooth non porous surfaces. H.D. sells that also. Good luck !!!!!!!!!

Customer Reviews

E/O 2 in. x 15 ft. Foam and Foil Pipe Wrap Insulation Tape is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 62.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great for tight nook and cranny, a bit tedious for long pipes PROS The tape can be cut into short pieces and placed into difficult pipe configurations, places where foam/rubber wraps get torn. Also makes a great spacer for those pipes that touch, bang or rattle. The 15' roll will cover about a 10 foot length of 1/2 PVC or 5/8 copper pipe, which is easy to install only if you have a lot of room to maneuver the big roll of tape. CONS: This tape must be wrapped at an angle with an overlap in order to provide it's best insulation value which is R2.0. A better option is the armaflex rubber self seal pipe wrap insulation is R3.3, which comes in 6 foot lengths and is much quicker to install on long straight sections. If you decide to buy the tape over the wrap, be sure to wipe clean any surfaces, as the tape doesn't stick well to dust or dirt. Be sure to cover it in duct tape if you don't spirally install the tape.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Overlap failure The foam adhesive side sticks well to clean copper pipe. However if you use the overlapping wrap method, as seen on the instruction, beware that the foam adhesive side does not stick to the foil side of the tape, not at all. So you get an ugly non sealing wrap with big gaps. Very disappointed. If you can use the rubber or styrofoam type insulation split tubes they are much better. Wrap those with the HD all weather tape and you get a great seal and better insulating properties.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent insulation for everything that needs to be insulated Tape was easy to apply to cracks in doors and windows that let in draughts; around pipes that needed to be protected from the cold and any other areas that needed protection from wintery blasts. The tape stayed until we peeled it off - and it left no adhesive marks or sticky patches. Highly recommended for use in these circumstances.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from used to wrap pipes - it was difficult to wrap... used to wrap pipes - it was difficult to wrap and had to cut it into 2-3 ft length and had to use tape to make it contiguous.
