I received my order. I’m curious is there a exp date that is visible? Took a more then a weekto get here. Also just sat in Tracy , Ca while it was super hot. Casting feels somewhat dry to the touch and lacks that earthy smell I was looking for.

    Answer This Question

The packages do not have an expiration date. Earthworm Castings can last for a couple of years if stored in a cool, dark location. We don't recommend storing them at temperatures above 90 degrees fahrenheit.

Can this be spread on a lawn with a broad cast spreader?
            ByMar 24, 2024
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Earthworm Castings can definitely be applied to the lawn. We recommend spreading a 1/4 inch thick layer. There is no recommended spreader setting as this is not a pelletized product and would not flow through a spreader easily.

Are the castings guaranteed free from egg casings from or individual jumping worms' , Amynthas agrestis, Amynthas tokioensis, and Metophire hilgendorfi?
              ByApr 18, 2023
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Our worm casting production processes make it very unlikely for there to be contamination by jumping worms. The vermicomposting worms are grown in climate-controlled buildings, not outside on the ground where undesired species could invade the production system. We do not have any processes to kill eggs/cocoons. Heating the castings to an appropriate temperature to do so would kill the beneficial microbes in the castings. But again, our production practices create a low risk for contamination.

This is the first time I have ever used this in my gardening. I also used it in some pots at home. The plants seemed to perk up. The only one not growing much is the clematis and I am not sure if it is just the plant. My houseplants seem happy. The Butterfly Bush and the Climbing Rose both grew about 5 or six inches. I will continue to use this and, once I weed, I will use it in my large garden out back. You need to keep it in a dry place that does not go over 90 degrees.

This is a natural environmentally friendly fertilizer to improve your soil for plants. Anyone who had a middle school biology class knows that worms are extremely beneficial for soils to support plants. It’s composed of 100% vermicompost and has a rich dark color. It’s easy to use in gardens and/or potted plants; just add ¼ to ½ inch around each plant and water. Especially if your soil seems wanting, this is an excellent natural fertilizer to use.

Earth Science organic All-Purpose earthworm castings , 100% Vermicompost. This means that it is pure worm castings (manure) no fillers . The best part is there is also no odor when you use the product and it is so easy to use , You can add a bit to the hole when planting small plants or flowers. You can sprinkle it on top of the sole around them and just work it into the soil or you can mix it with water and make a" manure tea " for your watering can to go around and water house plants or your hanging baskets on the porch. It has only been about 2 weeks since i got the product but i have already seen improved plant growth . I will certainly be adding more to my organic garden .

I got this product as a soil modifier for my clay-type soil. It has an easy-spread consistency, but with a number of lumps that needed crushing. Labeling claims a 0.5:0:0 NPK (Nitrogen : Phosphorus : Potassium) ratio made from earthworm castings with no peat or other fillers. The package mentions an address in Green Bay, Wisconsin, but there is no indication of where the product is manufactured.

Love this stuff, worm castings are mild and really help plants and seedlings to grow as well as replenish the soil. Great for raised gardens, Veggies, of all types. Seedlings as they grow get strong and grow fast without burning, Potted plants both indoors and out. You can also mix with a gallon of water, let it sit for a day and then stir it again and spray on your seedings, tomatoes, etc. Instructions for that are on the package. I highly recommend this product.

I’ve toyed with a different brand of worm castings one time before. I found the consistency of the Earth Science Earth Worm stuff is much easier to work with. The 12 pound bag filled just under half of a Homer 5 gallon bucket. I mixed the castings (1 part) with some peat lite soil (3 part) that I got a while back at Home Depot. The ratio is from an extension page that I read online. I have a cheap cement mixer that I got just to do my own soil mixing. It’s nice that the Worm Castings were dry enough to mix properly in the mixer. I ended up with approximately 8 gallons of mix. I’m sure the castings would work more than well enough on their own, but I like the idea of maximizing the benefits. I’ve already used the resulting mix to sow my cucurbit seeds. The Castings mix wet easy enough. Once the cucurbits are proper size they will be transplanted directly into the garden. A bit later in the season I will use the remaining mix to plant some hanging baskets. I see the Castings helping the cucurbits make progress growing while keeping them viable as they approach final transplant time. With the hanging baskets, I see the castings extending the life of the peat lite mix and otherwise providing all the benefits castings have to offer to this year’s hanging fuchsia plants. At the end of the season, the fuchsia with castings will end up in the compost pile destined to become part of the soil in my garden. The castings with the cucurbit plants will already be there. I plan on getting repeated benefits out of the Earth Science Worm Castings.

Wanted to supplement my raised garden before my spring planting. I wanted to use the Earthworm Casting because it was vermicompost; environmentally friendly, kid safe and pet safe. I totally keep my garden organic, and use no chemicals so this fits the bill. This product can be spread on top of the soil, mixed with soil or made into a compost tea. I will try the tea some leftover castings. I filled the hole with the earthworm casting before planting. My plants looked a little sad after planting, the next morning, they looked great. I am hoping for a good crop of tomatoes.

This 12 pound bag of worm castings is in a fine granular consistency that is east to spread using your own measuring device. Application rates are printed on the bag noting use for in-ground plants, potted plants, trees and even to make a compost tea. The analysis is 0.5% nitrogen from 100% worm castings and is 100% organic with no fillers or chemicals. It’s hard to say what results I’ll see as this works slowly, unlike chemical based fertilizers that push plants very quickly, but given the purity and quality of this product I expect to see reasonable growth over the next 6-8 weeks. Recommended reapplication is 4-6 months. I have 13 diff entries vegetable plants that I spread it on using 1/4-1/2 the bag, so the 12 pound bag should last 6-7 months.

I have a pretty successful compost pile in my backyard. It is very simple process where I pile up leaves & grass cuttings thru-out the year. At the beginning of the next season I turn over the pile one time, moving it in the process. The next year I turn it over again (also moving it) & usually am able to use the compost @ this point after I screen it. So I really have three compost piles: the one I am actively using for our plantings (from two seasons ago), the one from last season & the one I am actively piling up leaves & grass on. I generally get two to three cubic yards of compost a year, which is more than enough for our purposes. Over the last couple of years I have been supplementing the fresh compost with vermiculite to improve the water retention. Using vermiculite has the added benefit of reducing erosion, surprisingly enough. I spent some time reading about various supplements for soil. Of course, compost is mentioned every time. This year I thought I would try adding earthworm castings to the mix. I chose the Earth Science brand as they claim to not use any fillers; 100% earthworm manure. I am looking forward to seeing the benefit of using this product: - Natural source of organic matter and an excellent supplement for plants of any kind; - Improves overall soil structure; - Increases water and nutrient holding capacity of soils, and - Promotes plant growth I ordered this product on-line & it arrived in perfect condition in a few days; I would not hesitate to order it, again.
