Can the battery be left on the charging station when not in use?

Many batteries take a "set" when left in the charger when not in use. Will the charger logic allow the battery to be left in the charger at all times when not in actual tool use, without degrading the battery life and capacity? The charger will be plugged into AC power at all times.
Asked by: ncmoonshiner
Thank you for asking, Ncmoonshiner. To obtain the longest possible battery life, we suggest removing the battery pack from the charger once it is fully charged and ready for use. For battery pack storage longer than 30 days, store the battery pack where the temperature is below 80°f and away from moisture, store battery packs in a 30%-50% charged condition, and every six months of storage, we recommend charging the battery pack as normal. Great question! I hope this helps. –Keri

I got this battery operated chain saw because I always have a problem starting my 12" Stiel saw, and also it is very dangerous. l like the Echo 14" saw very much. It works very well, is heavy but not too heavy for me, and is easy to use. It charges quickly, and for my purposes uses very little battery with each use. Starting it is extremely easy but also safe. Cutting stumps off so that only about 1 inch is left is very easy with this saw. I have had the chain fall off twice though. That was due to 1) having the optional tip installed, and 2) trying to cut a small branch that was at an angle to the saw blade. The tip protector appears to be a problem rather than a solution and I won't use it again. When the chain fell off, three of the links got tangled in the tip and were hard to get loose. Trying to reinstall the chain was not an easy thing either. I was able to do it, and now have it figured out so with practice it's not a problem. The short version of all this is that it's a great tool and very easy to use, overall, but especially for light backyard use.

I bought this saw for tree branch trimming based on the reviews and it works very well for its intended purpose. It would not be suitable for logging or cutting cord wood which is fine. This saw is fairly heavy, probably due to the size of the battery, and much noisier than expected for a cordless electric saw. Hearing protection is definitely needed. While actually more expensive than comparable gasoline powered saws, the trade off is the convenience- for example there is no gasoline odor when transported in an automobile trunk and if stored unused for several months there is no problem with fuel deterioration. Maintenance is limited to checking chain tension and refilling the chain oil reservoir. With the battery fully charged, you are ready to go work immediately in any temperature and by the time the battery needs recharging, it's probably time for a break anyway!

This small wonder side steps the ongoing problem with EPA additives in fuel which erode fuel lines and primer bulbs in all my gasoline chainsaws. It has plenty of power to cut trees and brush. The battery lasts longer than I do. The heavy duty charger restores the battery quickly enough. Follow the manual and let the saw do the work. The bar oil cap is easy to remove and replace. I like the on board wrench which rides on the bottom of the frame. Balance is good with the saw's 16 inch bar. Weight reminds me of a gasoline saw - I was surprised at the weight. The saw is a loud screamer so I wear ear protection when running the saw. I also wear a helmet with a mesh face screen to protect me from smaller falling limbs and errant chips flying through the air. The only down side I have found is the battery becomes stuck - in the saw as well as in the charger. I don't yet understand why it gets stuck and I will try putting graphite into the grooves of the battery which fits guides on the saw and charger.

I've removed one tree which was a decent sized 20-24" silver maple. My experience with the saw was good. I used it to take down and process the entire tree for firewood. It took three charges to do it which I think is pretty good. I prefer it over gas powered as long as it holds up to the test of time. I worry about battery longevity. When the battery is getting low it will periodically stop running and take a second or two before it will restart. This is how I know it's time for a recharge. I used wedges and did my best to keep from pinching the blade during work. This will sound funny but with this saw I was able to think through my cuts better. With a gas saw I find myself being hasty because i don't want to have to restart the saw and so I try to make as many cuts as possible before I power it down. With this it doesn't matter because it starts itself.

Purchased this chainsaw in spite of numerous poor reviews about the quality of the battery and charger because there were so many positive reviews about the overall performance. Took the battery and charger out of the box to get a full charge prior to using. I did not even remove the chainsaw. The charger did not move past the battery check light, even after 30 minutes. I unplugged the charger and tried again with the same result. No indication that the battery was bad or moving on to the the green charging light. I returned the unit to Home Depot for full credit. Cannot comment on the performance of the chainsaw as I never had the opportunity to use it. I can't believe that a reputable company like Echo has not dedicated the resources to fix this problem in spite of all the negative posts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two years now - works great I’ve had our 58v chainsaw for two years now. It’s worked flawlessly and I much prefer it to my little 16” gas Poulan. I’ve become a real convert to preferring cordless over gas for some tools. To date I’ve ended up buying the chainsaw, 2 hedge trimmers, 2 string trimmers. The chainsaw and one hedge trimmer are for trail work. The latter for trimming overhanging branches on our snowmobile / atv trails. The other hedge trimmer and string trimmer for our house in the city. IMPORTANT: if you read about issues with the batteries keep reading. You’ll find that ALL the powerful cordless brands have battery issues and there’s lots of videos showing the really simple quick fixes for packs that won’t charge if allowed to drain too far. This saw is a wonderful saw - it cuts quickly, has plenty of power, and plenty of battery life. It is solidly built, and all the important parts are made of metal. The variable speed trigger, top chain stop, 16" bar, and great oiling system match the features you'd expect from a high quality gasoline saw. Since I'd read several reviews complaining about the thin bar and chain that it comes with, I purchased a slightly wider Oregon bar and chain commonly found in any hardware store. I haven't noticed and impact on battery life using the beefier setup. Battery life is quite good on this saw. I was going to buy an additional 4ah battery with the original package, but after using this for several weeks I feel it's not necessary. If you were to be using the saw all day, you'd probably want to have on battery charging while cutting with the other. In my opinion, this is the best battery chainsaw you can buy today.

Not wanting to deal with a gas chainsaw that would be used infrequently, was looking for a good cordless electric. Chose the echo based on reviews, but was disappointed in it's cutting ability. Battery life was good, but after cutting 5-6 logs the chain could barely cut thru an 6in oak log. While researching chains for this chainsaw, ran across an earlier review about changing out the bar and chain from .043 to .050. Purchased an Oregon bar and chain combo (#27857). After replacing the bar/chain, was able to cut thru 30+ oak logs quickly and still had 2 bars on battery. Would have rated this 5-star if it had come with a .050 bar/chain. Total different saw after the swap. Recommend this saw if you are okay spending another $22 on a replacement bar/chain.
