Will this chainsaw cut through the trunk of a oak tree?

I have several oak trees which have fallen. Will this chainsaw have enough power to cut through the trees? Thanks
Asked by: PSIU
Thank you for asking, PSIU. Yes, this chainsaw will have enough power to cut through trees. However, the safe use of this product requires an understanding of the information on the tool. Before use of this product, familiarize yourself with all operating features and safety rules. This information could be found in your operator's manual. Thank you for taking an interest in the ECHO 58-Volt line! I hope this helps! –Keri

Can the battery be left on the charging station when not in use?

Many batteries take a "set" when left in the charger when not in use. Will the charger logic allow the battery to be left in the charger at all times when not in actual tool use, without degrading the battery life and capacity? The charger will be plugged into AC power at all times.
Asked by: ncmoonshiner
Thank you for asking, Ncmoonshiner. To obtain the longest possible battery life, we suggest removing the battery pack from the charger once it is fully charged and ready for use. For battery pack storage longer than 30 days, store the battery pack where the temperature is below 80°f and away from moisture, store battery packs in a 30%-50% charged condition, and every six months of storage, we recommend charging the battery pack as normal. Great question! I hope this helps. –Keri

Does it ship with the 4AH or 2AH battery?

Your web site shows 4AH but the Echo web site shows 2AH.
Asked by: Howard
Thank you, Howard. This chainsaw kit includes a 4AH battery.

How to keep the scabbard on the bar??

The open end of the scabbard does not connect or attach in any way to the body of the saw - it just keeps falling off!
Asked by: Cutter
If the tip guard is installed it adds just enough bar length to prevent the scabbard from seating fully and locking to the chainsaw body.

While the kerf is narrower than a gas saw, it cuts well with minimal binding. The 4AH battery is sufficient to fell and buck a 12-14" diameter tree before needing a recharge. Recharge is reasonably fast, but have a second battery if you need to keep working continuously. The auto-oiler seems to work well. I like the two-bolt chain clamping mechanism versus the "quick tension" devices on other saws as your adjustment will stay put until you need to adjust for chain wear over time. The captive tool in the handle is a good idea, but it's hard to get out without another tool as it's clamped in tightly - great so it doesn't fall out, but a spring release would be more convenient. The saw is actually heavier than my equivalent gasoline powered saw, so it's a bit more tiring to lift, but the lack of vibration from the electric drive is a nice change from gas saws.

I felt compelled to do so for others who may be hesitant to invest in a battery powered chainsaw, like I was. With 2 herniated discs and tendinitis, I couldn't continue lugging around my old, heavy gas saw. I did a ton of research and decided to purchase the ECHO 16". I had it for a few weeks and I couldn't be more impressed. I cut up a 17" red oak tree that was over 40' tall with no problem. There was no noticeable vibration and the saw never hesitated. Smooth cuts even through the thickest part of the tree. It did take 4 battery charges from start to finish, but I expected this. The battery lasted me between 20-30 minutes of straight cutting through oak, which I found really impressive. What I really appreciate is how simple the rig is to use. Literally, just drop the battery in and add chain oil. No more frustrating pulls trying to start a gas engine (and hoping it starts), no fumes, messy gas and oil mixing. Maintenance thus far has been just keeping the blade and bar housing clean and battery charged. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

I cannot make gasoline, but with solar panels I can make electric; therefore, this product is essentially green minus bar oil. On the positive, it has cut through anything I've been able to get the bar into. It is moderately quiet, much more subdued than a gas saw (while cutting you can sometimes hear the tree vibrate). The battery life is sufficient, though you may prefer to have a spare available if the project is involved. For the negatives? As mentioned in earlier reviews, this cutting system has a problem with "hiccups". It will cut for about a second, then shut down. As in, pull the battery out to reset, then reinstall to cut. After a few cycles it will cut as intended and interestingly seems to be battery related more than from the saw itself - a new battery I purchased has not presented this challenge. This was the only problem I've had with this saw. Keep an eye on your oil, don't over- or under-tension your chain and keep your chain sharp - all common advice regardless of what type/brand chainsaw you use. This unit does use an Oregon replacement bar and chain.

I've removed one tree which was a decent sized 20-24" silver maple. My experience with the saw was good. I used it to take down and process the entire tree for firewood. It took three charges to do it which I think is pretty good. I prefer it over gas powered as long as it holds up to the test of time. I worry about battery longevity. When the battery is getting low it will periodically stop running and take a second or two before it will restart. This is how I know it's time for a recharge. I used wedges and did my best to keep from pinching the blade during work. This will sound funny but with this saw I was able to think through my cuts better. With a gas saw I find myself being hasty because i don't want to have to restart the saw and so I try to make as many cuts as possible before I power it down. With this it doesn't matter because it starts itself.

I could hardly believe that any saw could cut so fast. Earlier this week I got out my gas-powered saw. That one took many, many, many pulls to get started. I made three cuts when it quit. I didn't get it started again. I am sure my cardio-rehab nurse would have fits if she saw me getting exhausted and winded from pulling that cord. That's when I decided to do some research on battery powered ones. Reviews rated this (and the EGO) as good choices. AMAZING. It cuts fast. It cuts quietly. It stops when I stop. It starts up again right away with just some finger action. So far all I can say is AMAZING. I wore my ear protectors, but maybe I didn't need them as it is much quieter than the gas-powered.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Chainsaw This saw is not your typical battery powered chainsaw. - It’s has the power of gasoline models, is a very well made Echo quality saw and you don’t have to worry about stale gasoline gumming up the engine. - It comes with a really large 58 volt battery that provides great cutting power and the charger is fan cooled allowing for a faster charge. - It is much quieter than than gasoline saws making it perfect for urban areas. - It also has a chain brake for safety and is balanced well for comfort and safety. - The convenience is awesome. You grab it and go. No tugging on a rope until you are out of breath. I used it to limb an old tree in my backyard and it performed as well as my gasoline model. All you have to do is charge the battery and add bar oil as it comes completely assembled. Keep in mind that it is a battery powered saw and will not run all day without charging but has the capacity to complete medium sized jobs on one charge. If you are looking for a heavy duty saw that doesn’t require the maintenance of gasoline this is your saw.

I had it oiled properly (with Echo brand bar and chain oil), had the battery fully charged, and then I tried to cut down 1 tree that was no larger than my right leg. Chain caught and bound 5 times cutting through. I tried to keep chain tight, but it kept loosening and finally came off and hit me in the face! Thank goodness I was wearing safety glasses. This is a poor attempt at making a battery operated chainsaw, and should not be sold to ANYONE. If you can't make a decent chainsaw at this price, don't sell it! You will lose money having all these returned. Oh, and a "2 year commercial warranty"? That is a joke, as this didn't make in 10 minutes in a residential capacity.

Got tired of my gas chain saw not wanting to start, adding seafoam and carb spray to just get it going. Popped the battery in, added oil and I was off cutting logs. I already have the Echo battery weed eater so as a plus I now have 2 batteries. Started cutting with a not full battery and cut up trees one being 16 inches. The saw keep going. I swapped batteries after cutting ~15 trees and doing some branch cutting. I then cut up another ~10 trees with battery still left. Note: I cut trees into chunks I could move with my tractor. Another tree was a little bigger than 16 inches but the saw had no problems. This was a great buy and I am pleased.
