Questions & Answers

Is it safe to use 40:1 fuel/oil mix ratio in this blower

I've been using a 50:1 fuel/oil mix ratio in this blower w/o any problems for some time now, but I have other tools that require a 40:1 ratio and would prefer not having to prepare two different premixes. Would it be safe to use a 40:1 premix in this blower, and are there any downsides to doing this ?
Asked by: Supertool
First, use 89 octane gasoline as Echo recommends. Second, I use a synthetic blend 2 stroke oil and mix a 40:1 ratio in all my 2 cycle powered outdoor equipment-a very old snow blower, newer chain saw and my Echo leaf blower. They all run very well and have never fouled a spark plug at the 40:1 ratio. A little extra oil will help protect all your 2 stroke power equipment. I was a licensed auto engine mechanic in Michigan over 25 years ago, so I know a little about 2 and 4 stroke engines and oils to use. Years ago when the manufacturers started using the 50:1 gas to oil ratio in their 2 stroke engines, they started seeing more engine failures. Then the synthetic blend oil was developed and used to help alleviate the problem and has worked pretty good.

Is this a variable speed blower?
Asked by: Lefty
Yes it is. It varies with engine rpm. This gives you total variable speed from idle to full throttle. This is another big advantage with a gas powered over an electric blower.

I ordered one of these blowers online from Home Depot. When it arrived I unpacked it, filled it with fresh fuel using Echo 2 cycle mix, and this thing would not start. Tried starting it for three days until I finally gave up. Took it back to Home Depot and exchanged it for another. Filled it with fuel, pulled the cord about six times, it sputtered briefly and that was it. No amount of pulling would get this thing going. Took it back to Home Depot and got another brand. Filled it with the same fuel, three pulls and it started right up. Really disappointed in Echo. Like everything else it's made in China, so what can you expect.

My other one (same model) lasted 9 years and I worked it pretty good.I didn't like new model replacement they had for this model so I'm glad they had a few of these left in their warehouse. I should have purchased two but I think one of these will outlive me.
