Questions & Answers

Is this a good saw for a lady?

would you recommend a lady using this saw?
Asked by: nana
I would not recommend this saw for a lady the reasons why would its a heavy saw and you really need to grip this thing pretty tight to make sure you don't get any kick back not saying you but you never know safety first its not worth any risk to find out the hard way. I would recommend the 14 inch or better yet go with the echo battery powered saw or electric. These mac nines are dangerous for men unless you have the strength of a man I would not recommend any 18 inch gas saw.

It comes with a 5 year warranty; that's the longest one I know of; I doubt you can extend it beyond that.

Customer Reviews

18 in. 40.2cc Gas Chainsaw is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 1020.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from everything I expected. I have owned an Echo String trimmer for 12 years it still cranks on second pull and runs till I stop it. On that note when I got in the market for a power saw I wanted a Stihl but decided on the echo because of my past experience and the Five year warranty. First day I cut a 34 inch dying Oak tree. It cranked, and cut like a champ. I then put it through its paces by cutting 35 two inch disk from the tree. (my wife is making cheese boards for presents). After about 20 of them I sharpened and adjusted the chain. Kept cutting with no problems. I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TIGHTEN THE BAR RETENTION BOLTS out of the box as mine were not that tight and chain would have eventually slipped. So far, I am very happy with this product!!!!!

I had two trees knocked down in my yard, both trees where over 50' high. I thought I just buy this one to cut the limbs off for now, then rent a bigger one to cut up wood. Well after cutting all the limbs off (3) day process and getting them to the dump, I started to just mess around with cutting the wood up. The biggest base I had to cut was 31" round, this chainsaw had no issues cutting this log, matter of fact I keep on cutting the wood. I was out there for 2 solid days cutting up both trees, and never had one issue with this saw. I got close to 3 cores of wood from the two down trees, and all with this 1 and only chainsaw. This saw is well worth the money and very easy to maintain. This is the first echo product I bought, and if the other echo tools are like this one, I will be buying more echo products. Buy it this thing is GREAT...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from On my second one after 10 yes with the old one. Just got my second cs400 , I believe I purchased my first one in 08, I cut an average of 4-6cords a year some oak, juniper and pine and use it to trim my 22+ Chinese elms around the house, never had a problem with the saw but have gone through many chains and bars, the only issue I've had was the side plate for the chain warping, probably torked it down too tightly. Thought about going with 4 stars but that was cause the only parts you can get for it from home depot is the chain and bar so it really sucks to order an air filter but hey that's not echo's fault! Looking to get another 10 yrs outta this one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My go to saw I have had this saw over six years. I cut fire wood, clear overgrowth, and trim with it. It is the saw I throw in the back of the pickup when I go to my mountain property just in case tress are blown down into the road or what ever else I may encounter. It will always start on the second pull when cold and the first when warm. For a little saw it has good power. This saw gets used in the 100 to 150 hour range every year. I have had to replace the drive sprocket a couple of bars umpteen chains but the saw itself has been flawless. Echo saws have been good for me. This is a great little saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CS400 chainsaw The CS 400 chainsaw will be my third Echo product. All have been excellent. The other two products, a string trimmer and blower are going on 14 years old and all three start within a pull or two. Once they are running, they run nice and smooth. My Stihls seem to be more finicky to start and don’t seem to run as smoothly. I love the “classic” controls of a metal on/off switch where up is “on” and down is “off”, a pull choke, and primer bulb within easy reach. Only thing I might change would be to make it have an inboard clutch. But that’s a minor issue for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cost effective and durable Bought this following bad storms that knocked trees down in our area. Saw starts easily and has enough drive to easily chew through a thick tree. This saw ran constantly over a 3 day period during which it chopped up 4 trees and completely took down one other. Lightweight enough to make climbing with it easy. Make sure you tighten the bar nuts well because I ended up losing one, had to buy 2 for 60 cents replacement M8 x 1.25 nuts. Chain replacement is easy, I've already changed chains twice on it, very straightforward. Good, affordable piece of gear, highly recommend.

I live in Arizona and couldn't bring a saw with me to Florida. At first there were no Echo's available so borrowed an almost new Poulan. It was OK. I think the reviews are correct that it is OK, not great. The local Home Depot had new Poulans but I did not want to buy one based on the reviews. The Echo's were delivered after 2 days so bought it and love it. It cuts great and starts very easily. I have only used it for 3 days now, but it is better than the 3 previous saws I have used recently. I feel it is worth the extra money. Cold it has taken 2 or 3 pulls to start. Once warm it starts first pull every time. The Poulan always took several pulls. I cut some pretty big trees with this saw this week and am very pleased with the purchase.

I have used several different kinds of saws over the years and this is definitely been one of the best. Out of the box it started on the third pull and every time after that within the first or second. The saw is very light and still has plenty of power. The first weekend I dropped three trees all 30 plus inches in diameter. This saw will not disappoint the reviews speak for themselves.
