To THD support; that was the lamest beat around the bush answer I’ve seen in a long time. At no tune in your two paragraph long answer did you directly answer the question asked. You mention many variables As to why any number of products could possibly be priced a certain way but failed to address the specific question asked. We are left to assume since you couldn’t answer the question directly that you didn’t have an actual answer. I don’t see why it’s so hard to just truthfully answer a simple question on pricing. Like. The 20 has a longer bar and we are able to charge more money for it regardless of wether it’s actually worth that much as an optional item.

Home Depot will price match if you use the "Live Chat" on the right side of the screen. I told them I could get it for the MSRP at several dealers around the area including Sutherlands. You do have to order it and pay for it while you're in the chat session. Have it shipped to your local HD store and there will be no shipping charge. The chat guy was really easy to deal with.

What is the difference between this and the model 509 59 cc

The CS-590 (a.k.a. Timberwolf) is good, but lacks the higher performance and power/weight ratio (and higher RPMs) found in the pro saws. The CS-501P is about 3 LBS lighter (but sixty bucks heavier), has the Aluminum handle instead of plastic, rim sprocket instead of spur, and comes complete with bragging rights... you can compare up to four different Echo chainsaws side by side on their Web site [https://www.echo-usa.com/Products/Chain-Saws/Compare-Chain-Saws].

Just bought the CS-501P (2018 model, from an Echo dealer), as a saw that runs high performance right out of the box: 5 year warranty, and no need to void it by modifications. 20% more power than the 490, and 17% more than the 500. RPMs are 13K+ and it's the lightest 50cc available. The bar/chain are also high performance, and it has a rim sprocket, all of which equates to greater productivity. Dealer's favorite Echo, and 5 of 5 with 100%telling others to buy this one... there's half a dozen around here to choose from, but if I had to pick only one? This one, hands down.

Will this song ever be sold in stores? I just want to look at it before I purchase it.

After doing tons of research, I chose this chainsaw. Another major brand had a lot of negative reviews with respect to starting issues, after modifying their saws to meet the new CARB (pollution/emission) requirements. I have to admit, at first, I had problems starting this model. With the choke out, you're supposed to pull the starting rope until it sounds like it wants to start. To me, it never made that sound (unlike my other 4-cycle power tools) so I wound up flooding the engine. Now, I pull the rope only two times with choke out and it starts fine every time. And, once its going, its a beast. Cuts through logs so easily. I wish I had abandoned my old John Deere earlier.

Tension screw bent on a first full day of use
Bought this online and got the product 4 days ago. Used some during the work week to clear some broken branches from an ice storm. Tension screw bent on a first full day of use on a weekend. Since it was a new purchase (under a week), took it back to Home Depot (HD). HD claimed it's user's abuse and refused to honor the warranty / exchange / refund the product. Went online to purchase the tension screw to fix myself. Expected better from ECHO products, and especially from HD. Back to my old Stihl while I wait for the part to come in. Just have to wait to cut down those bigger branches. Lesson: Should have got another Stihl - my old Stihl is 5 years old and still going strong.

This is an easy starting, great running, smooth idling chainsaw. About those comments concerning starting difficulties -- this saw should start within 3 - 5 rope pulls even when brand new out of the box. Pull the rope only 2 - 3 times with the choke on then push the choke in, don't use the throttle to reset the choke as this will set the saw to the lowest idle speed where it won't start. Don't ask me how I know...........

I replaced my CS 400 with the CS 501p 18" chain saw. I only used the saw 1 day, but it works great. Easy to handle and a lot of power. I used my Echo CS 400 for over 10 years and cut down a lot of trees. The CS 400 always started until the ignition coil recently needed replacement [after 10 years]. Fairly easy to replace wear parts [the needle bearing and ignition coil] on the CS 400. Hopefully the CS 501P is the same. With the new saw, you do NOT get a new Echo chain. I was told Echo only provides the Oregon brand chain. Also, you do NOT get the starter oil anymore.

Have been a husky and stihl for 20 odd years the husky has more horsepower but the customer service for them is a joke and they either run really well or have constant problems , the stihl I have found over the years are more reliable but more $$$.Have a few echo products and they always have done well, The 501p is a great chainsaw that competes with the others very happy. HD is a joke and you are better off buying it at a local shop if you can. 5 year warranty also makes it stand ahead of the competition .

power and weight
I've never owned a saw that starts as fast and easily as the 501p. It seems to be built well, time will tell. The x-series has great power to weight ratios.
