Questions & Answers

What is the weight of this product

Asked by: Bud
Not the lightest blower I have had. I like the Stihl brands.

What is the difference between the two throttle systems

Asked by: Jim
Not a whole lot of difference, but I like the throttle on the blower tube because I'm used to a right hand throttle, and it also keeps my left hand free.

Yesterday I bought the Echo 500T back pack leaf blower and, even though I'm doing everything by the book to get it started, it won't. Any ideas?

Asked by: ralph
Take the spark plug out with it attached to the coil wire. Crank & see if there is any spark. Do it in a dark area to see if it's sparking. If so it's got to be fuel. If it sat a long time maybe the filter in the tank needs cleaning or replacement. Good luck with Echo though. If you don't use their brand of mix they will void your warrantee.

Does it use regular gas or mixed gas

Asked by: Mike
Yes, the gas blower does use mixed gas.

Customer Reviews

195 mph 465 CFM Gas Leaf Blower is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 281.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love My New Echo My first gas blower was a handheld which was an upgrade from my electric (no more cord...Yeah!). My next blower was the small mini 10 pound backpack blower. That was an awesome upgrade...was on special at a HD Christmas Even and 5 years later after taking good care of it, it still performs like a champ. It has been donated to my son after I bought the Echo PB500T. The 500T is amazing, blows away the Might Lite and now my favorite toy. I use it alot during the cutting season, every week clipping blow off and every other for edging the 250+ feet of sidewalk. This 500T has made that chore a fun to do. Just bought it three weeks ago and I could not even get it out of the box before my wife wanted to strap it on and cleanup the leaves. I tested it out first (to make sure it worked OK...) then let her at it, she was very satisfied with the performance and had a great time taking care of the leaves. Also love the cruise control feature... Bottom Line - If you are thinking about it, BUY IT.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No debate for me ! I am a landscaper of a (Five Acre Garden) with hundreds of trees, flowers and large lawns and without the Echo 500 blower I would be lost in those same leaves ! turns weeks of work into days. I have had problems with other brand name blowers but the Echo has proven itself to be a work horse. you can buy the bigger one but as far as I am concerned the 500 does everything you need at a better price. It will move crushed rock on driveways with no problem, clear gutters in minutes, and push piles of leaves anywhere you would like them. Will not bother to look at another blower, I have found the one for myself... The Echo 500 ! three years and still going strong with everyday use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good while it lasted I'd give it a zero if I could. I bought mine 10 months ago and made the mistake of not buying the additional HD warranty. Strictly for residential use, mine "blew up" while blowing off my driveway. It just popped and locked up. After being told that the supposed 5 year warranty would only be honored through a "certified" repair station, I took it in, left it for three weeks and was told the warranty wouldn't be honored because I had used "improper" fuel, whatever that means. I've used the same can/mix of fuel for the 3 weeks after I took the 500TC in for service in my other 2 cycle engines, including an ECHO string trimmer. ECHO ignored my inquiries (they are hard to contact except by phone), and denied my claim that the unit was at fault based purely on the opinion of a technician who did no fuel testing of any kind, and only made his determination after a cursory look at the inside of the cylinder head. As far as I'm concerned, ECHO's service, support, and warranty are lousy at best and non-existent at worst. BTW, I've built 2-cycle outboard and 8-cylinder drag racing engines since the 1960's so I'm not a novice. Spend your money somewhere else on something that will get serious warranty consideration should you have a failure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best I've ever had My sister told me today she needed a new blower and asked what I recommended. I immediately went out to the garage because I LOVE my blower. Bought it last summer, so has made it through two summers and now in the middle of its second Fall. It starts every time, no problem, never fails me, ran out of gas a couple of times and as soon as I refilled it, it cranked on the first pull. Very powerful - I have 2-300 trees on my property and I keep most of it cleared with this thing. I really can't remember, or believe, I spent three bills on a blower - but that is what it is listed for now. I know my sis can't afford that much but maybe I will go in on it with her in hopes that she has the ease and peace of mind of a good product to help her. I am sorry to read the other negative reviews - just doesn't seem possible. Thx, and good luck out there. Tim

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Could be great, but seriously flawed. Please read. I originally purchased an "open box" BP500T from HD for a significant discount. The only blemish on it was a dent on the blow molded backpack structure. The dent was significant, but did not hinder function. I used this blower weekly for about two months. Over time it became more and more difficult to start until finally it would not start at all. A spray of carb cleaner down the venturi and it would start instantly and immediately stall. Dirty carburetor? I removed the carb, disassembled, and cleaned it thoroughly. The blower started again, but not to my satisfaction. I condemned the unit as defective and returned it. The second PB500T I purchased new. Like the previous one, I only used premium fuel and echo brand premix. Sure enough, the same carburetion issues began to arise. Over the course of about a year, the unit became harder and harder to start. Also, the blower would stall when throttle was applied. A careful application of the choke and throttle at the same time would get me to wide open throttle without stalling, but having to operate a new machine in this manner was unacceptable to me. If it wasn't for the fact that the blower is built very well and ran great when it would run, I would have just returned it and purchased a different brand or model. The carburetor obviously needed an adjustment. The only problem is: due to EPA regulations, the carburetors on these blowers are "tamper proof". Special tools, that cannot be purchased by any untrained DIYer, are required for adjustment. I was fortunate to get my hands on the tool from a local lawn mower shop. Sure enough, with a little opening of the L and a little more opening of the H made a world of difference. The blower starts well and rolls from idle to wide open throttle without a hiccup. For those of you who have read this far, unless you can get your hands on the carburetor adjustment tool, I would strongly consider a different blower. I blame the EPA as much as Echo for this design flaw because if Echo didn't have to meet strict emissions requirements, the blowers would come with the carburetors on a richer setting in the first place.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor product This is my third Echo Blower and my last. It stopped running after about a year in use. I have followed the instructions to a tee and it has failed to live up to it's warranty. I would not recommend, in fact I now plan to purchase the Husqvana from Lowes which has a higher rating.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from mine is a piece of junk I'm 61 years old and this is absolutely the worst tool I've ever owned. Did not run consistently the first season, after the winter it did not want to run. I had it serviced, and it's been back 3 times. Runs at the repair shop, stops as soon as it gets home. Sits on the ground and runs great; pick it up, pull the trigger and it dies. Very hard to restart which is not worth the effort because it just dies again when you try to actually use it. People say good things about it but my experience has been horrible.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap Product I bought this blower from the Home Depot and it started giving me trouble only after having it for 6 months. I was extra careful in maintaining it, but one day it just stopped working. I took it to The Home Depot and recieved a call from the company that the warranty does not cover whatever the problem is. I was told that it was because of maintenance, but I do not agree as I know I took care of this product.
