Questions & Answers

Is the guard large enough on this trimmer? It seems kind of skimpy in comparison.

Asked by: TMan
It may seem small, but after trimming my 1/4 acre hillside I was covered with substantially less debris than my old curved shaft Homelite. I think it's adequate.

Is the handle adjustable? Can a woman use it???

Asked by: Stanlena
There is one thing nobody seemed to mention, If you have SMALL HANDS you will not be able to use the quick feed head. I have this problem. If I want to add new line to the trimmer head I have to take it apart because my hand is too small to apply pressure to both sides of the head at the same time to be able to load the new trimmer line.

This is not a toy trimmer like some I have used. Be ready for the "torque steer" or pull when you get into some heavy weeds with it. I'm only going to use the expensive Echo gas in it--tired of having carb problems with my older ones. My first Echo product! Starts up easily and will actually sit there and idle!

Also, the shaft feels so good in my hands, I can walk around holding it all day. What about power you ask? The 21.2CC engine can power through the thickest of bushes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worh Every Penny - 2 Year Post Purchase Review for 2 Acre Lot ** 2 year post purchase review** I weed eat and edge with this trimmer twice a week on a 2 acre lot, I’ve never had an issue. It fires up immediately every single time, the quick feed head makes replacing the line a breeze and maintenance is easy. I’ve given this thing a run for its money and its never failed me once. ECHO has won me over, ill now be purchasing an edger and a blower without any hesitation.

I use this trimmer on my 2.5 acre residence around multiple trees, flower beds and other landscaping (takes almost 2hrs, 2 tanks of gas & 2-3 line refills each time). I debated between the Stihl and this one- went with the Echo due to the good reviews, better price for the same HP and lighter weight. The trimmer has held up well, but the speed feed head has given me some problems after some use. Initially the line feed worked well, now I have to hand press the head and pull the line to get it to feed... yes, I read the instructions, it is a matter of the plastic bump head doesn't wear well (spring loaded bottom plate even popped off once) and I refuse to buy a new head after just a few uses. Otherwise, I would have given it 5 stars.

They changed the method for putting the line on. However, the new trimmer came with the old manual. Result! I spent over an hour trying to follow their instructions and put a new line on. I gave up and went to the dealer I bought it from. They told me what echo did. The one thing you do the most with a trimmer is put on new line. Obviously, Echo doesn't care if customers know how to do it. Bet Echo saved a bunch of money putting old manuals in with new trimmers. Or maybe this will cost them future sales. What moron made this decision?

For 200 Dollars (Roughly) you are getting a professional grade Weed eater that will work for you for a long time. Everything on this feels sturdy. I've had mine for around a year and do quite a few side jobs mowing lawns. This thing ALWAYS starts up 3 pulls for me. I only use the "echo pre mixed fuel" and it has yet to fail me. I don't mind spending a little extra for the fuel as we don't have any fuel in my area that doesn't contain ethanol. This thing runs like a champ and I expect it to carry on for years to come. Another great thing is that there are replacement parts for most of the things that will break for this unit. You can buy them at the store, or you can buy them from Echo directly. Awesome little weed eater.

Once the string gets down to an inch or two it retracts back into the head. Once this happens you are done. I had to stop and restring the unit 4 times during a 15 minute session just to get the job done. You have to make sure you constantly bump the head to ensure you have the maximum amount of line so it doesn't retract. For me this is the main reason I don't like this unit. 2. Head spins counterclockwise. After years of using trimmers spinning clockwise it is very hard to get used to the reverse tourqe of this trimmer. Since it spins backwards there is a constant barrage of debris flying in your face and legs. I didn't think this was going to be a big deal but it is very uncomfortable to operate and doesn't feel right. 3. This thing is powerful. So powerful that it can be hard to manuever and it goes through string quickly. It is hard to cut a nice straight edge as it will take off huge chunks if you are not careful. I feel like I have to bump the head every 10 seconds to keep the string long enough to keep from retracting again.

I gave it 2 stars only because it started right away and ran without any problems, however after using it for only 5 minutes the cover to the spool flew off and all of the line spun out. The line would not go back in and the cover would not snap back into place. I called customer service and they offered to send me a new cover in 7-10 days and than suggested I go on-line and find a video that shows how to load the line. Since I had just purchased it I returned the unit to the Home Depot for a refund. This has never happened with any of my other gas trimmers so maybe I just got a defective unit. I'm still deciding whether to purchase another one or try a Stihl since it also got good reviews and is priced around the same.
