As of 2019, are the gas models still competitive against the 58V cordless? I have 4 acres with lots of trees, a pond, and 600 feet of fence.

Can attachments such as weed eater, tiller or hedge trimmers from another manufacturer (example toro, ryobi) be used with this product?

Asked by: paperboy
Of course, the official answer from ECHO is that they won't work. However they will inf fact work with a simple modification. There are videos on YouTube showing how to do it. I have several different attachments that I've modified to work with my ECHO power head.

Is the added weight of the PAS-225 worth its versatility compared to the lighter SRM-225, which is only a string trimmer? Will use this as a weedeater 90% of the time, but could definitely use some of the attachments.

Both are the PAS models, which is nice because they can share both attachments. I have two standard trimming attachments, brush cutter attachment and a hedge trimmer. The 225 handled the hedge trimmer fine. I have not used it with the brush cutter. I highly recommend both trimmers. I maintain close to 10 acres including trimming around a pond. I used a sthil trimmer for about 7 years prior to these purchases. I bought an echo because of reputation and I like my echo timber wolf chainsaw. The 2620 is definitely the more power machine. I can definitely tell a difference in power between the two. The 2620 serves a better purpose for higher weeds and brush. The 225 is perfect around the house and trees. I purchased both so me and my son could tackle the yard and cut my trimming in half. Overall, extremely satisfied with both. I do think it depends on your yard to which will serve a better purpose.

Ive had nothing but problems with all their products. The trimmers Worked amazing. My issue is with the manufactures 5 year warranty, customer service, defective parts that go bad often and have to be special ordered. Echo flat out refuses to honor their warranty. The warranty calls out if there are defects in the product it should be covered. I have repetitively tried to contact Echo on the phone to fix the defects, the 1st time Echo sent me to a service dealer in the are, dealer was rude and basically told me to get lost. Tried contacting Echo and its like they refuse to answer the phone. So I then tried social media and they blocked me. NO reply just blocked. The part on the trimmer goes bad about every 4-6 months and its a special order and I have to keep purchasing a new item. You have to Special order the Grease! The service centers are just garbage in my area. I shouldve just went with stihl!

This piece of garbage didn't last 5 months with normal residential use. Takes quite a bit of effort to start as well. I was willing to overlook that, but it now refuses to start altogether. Started to inspect what could be the issue and found that the plastic part that the throttle cable is attached to is broken. I don't feel like that this part should be plastic at all. I keep it stored outside, but under the cover of the carport, so it gets very little sun and it's afternoon sun at that. The orange colored trigger lock and choke lever is sun bleached to almost white. I've never seen that, especially in as little as 5 months. This whole thing seems so cheaply made. I always thought Echo was a decent brand made to compete against Stihl, but I can see that is not true. I changed brands because my Toro died on me after five years. Little did I realize, that I should have just stuck with what I know. I put the research in and read all kinds of reviews. I thought I chose the top brand of moderately priced. I chose wrong. Either put the money up for an expensive top brand or a cheap one you plan on replacing. Either way, they'll probably average about the same in dollars spent.

This unit required almost not setup out of the box. It runs very smooth and relatively quiet for a gas powered trimmer. One of the best features about this trimmer is how little gas it burns. Its also pretty lightweight, which is a good thing. As a homeowner and contractor that does some property maintenance, I found this unit a bit under powered for my needs. I also noticed that this unit seams to throw a lot more debris (pine cones, sticks, etc) back at the user than other trimmers that I have owned. You will definitely need to wear thick pants and safety goggles at a minimum. I ended up returning this unit because it just didnt check enough boxes for me.

So I decided to buy one for home use but when I got it home the string trimmer attachment would not turn, so I brought it back a got another one. Same problem. So I decided to investigate. I found that the string trimmer head was not set deep enough for the spindle cable to engage it. So I reset it and it works just fine, but I still think it's a good Trimmer. I also like the rapid load.

I purchased this again because I lost my previous one in a garage fire, but I love my Echo purchases because they are always reliable and as a female I can appreciate the ease of which they start!! No struggle with yanking and yanking... just 2 or 3 pulls and it always crank right up! I have Echo hedger, blower and pole saw also! They were all destroyed in the fire and I didn't have to think twice about replacing them.

I had enough of the unreliable trimmers I have used for past 5 Years. Tired of rebuilding this and that, fiddling with them constantly to get through a yard. I decided on 3 competing trimmers, researched them and asked the pros what they use and why. Read every review on each machine and watched every video review I could find. I found a high end trimmer at a pawn shop nearly new, tried to start it and worked up a sweat doing so. I decided then and there to purchase new for a change. Late one night at The Home Depot I picked up this trimmer, looked at it closely for maintenance items, it is simple to maintain, lightweight, and the small guard is perfect. I bought it and hung it on the wall until my next yard, tried to start the older trimmers, no luck. Gassed up the Echo, flipped the on switch, pressed the purge bulb 4 times to get fuel into it the 8 more times. I pulled the starter rope 4 times and it started and idled. I ran through 2 tanks of slightly oilier fuel by varying engine speeds. I could feel it getting more responsive as I broke it in. I trimmed around my own yard and I think I actually smiled while trimming.! The trimmer feels so light and responsive, and I expected to to seriously bog but it didn't. On to the next yard and it performed reliably and perfectly. I highly recommend this trimmer and will buy another one as backup or a dedicated edger. As always the Fort Oglethorpe GA store was clean, organized, with most of the items I usually need and will continue shopping there.

Purchased this in June 2018. Had many echo products in the past which all worked great. This did not work well from the start and I should have returned it. Took it in for warranty this winter which I thought was free but cost $26. Having the same problems as before with poor starts and running poorly. Also other issues. Contacted Echo and the response was basically, "too bad". They do not stand behind their products and I would not buy another Echo. Also surprised to see that Home Depot was not much help after all the business I have given them.
