Questions & Answers

weed wacker will not release string when Bumped in other words bump does not work

I have taken machine to a professional garden shop repair place because wind in string did not work that was solved now at home will not bump out feed line to work Shop repair place has been in business for over 20 years he did not run machine and test bump out on string. acts like locked up ? what could be the cause of this can any one reply? Please
Asked by: echo22
Get rid of the bump feed head and replace it with a quick loading head. These bump feeds are nothing but headaches. With the quick load head you simply cut the string and slide/lock them in. Echo should pay for the replacement. Most people have problems with this bump feed design. I'm on my third Echo trimmer in 2 yrs. and they've never worked right. Not once. Try the quick loader and you'll see. Promise.

Is the guard large enough on this trimmer? It seems kind of skimpy in comparison.

Asked by: TMan
It may seem small, but after trimming my 1/4 acre hillside I was covered with substantially less debris than my old curved shaft Homelite. I think it's adequate.

Can this SRM225 be turned on it's side for edging without harming the unit?

Asked by: shazaman
Yes but ANY yard trimmer can be turned on its side and used as an edger.

Trimmer ok for 1 + acre property

Some trimmers out there are not rated for larger properties. Can this trimmer handle a 1+ acre property with lots of fence line? Second question. How does this trimmer handle chain link fences?
Asked by: mvoosen
I use it on almost 4 acres and it's working for me. With regard to chain link fences. Just like any trimmer don't get right up on any object and use a good quality line. It should handle up to .095. I typically use no less than .080.

2 Cycle 21.2 cc Straight Shaft Gas Trimmer is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 4819.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Real Deal My "department store" brand trimmer wouldn't start. I did everything short of a carb rebuild and still nothing. I finally told myself to buy a good one. And I did. The Echo is awesome. It has less CC's, but is more powerful. And edges just like the pros. No wonder I see so many "orange" colored trimmers and blowers on landscaping trailers. Also starts easily, and the string feeder is crazy simple. String feeders can cause severe frustration - but not on this model. I can load 20+ feet of string in about two minutes. Genius design! The balance is perfect and the handle doesn't vibrate. Worth the extra money by far. Don't cheap-out. Get the Echo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Machine I had a sears craftsman weed eater that lasted me ten years and never had to take to the shop. After it's demise, I decided I would try a different brand name. I bought brand "X", it lasted a summer. Brand "Y", a summer. Brand "Z", a summer and a half. After much frustration, I did some online research and decided to spend a little more money and go with the Echo.Glad I did. (so far) I have 3 acres to weed eat, and the Echo starts, just like the instructions says it will. Have cut my yard twice now and have yet to replace the string. So far, so good!!! Should have bought this bad boy after my Craftsman died. Probably wouldn't have as much gray hair.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love my Echo! This is the trimmer I should have bought a year ago. The debris guard looked a little narrow on the Echo, so I opted for a cheaper Craftsman with an oversized debris guard. Well, the Craftsman trimmer was really junk. It was underpowered and would stall out on the no choke position. On the echo, all my concerns about the danger of a narrow debris guard are gone. It's safe to use as an edger. All the rocks and debris will not fly into your face, arms and legs. I also like the smooth sound of the motor. I call it my "Harley" trimmer. Do yourself a favor. Spend a little extra money and get the right trimmer in the first place. I highly recommend Echo.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from warranty no good Was less than a year old and had to have a new carb....just quit running suddenly.... Echo will not warranty any fuel issues....even if you use their fuel.....5 year warranty is a joke. I have 2 other two cycle pieces of equipment using the same fuel and they are running fine. Plus Dealer has had it for over 3 weeks putting a carb on...... Back to walmart to buy the throw aways.....at least they run for 3 years.....then toss em and buy another.....cheaper in the long run... Echo has lost a customer.....and by the way.....you can't post a negative review on their website...they won't let you.....so all of those positive testimontals are filtered.....

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Trimmer head defect Took about three hours to finally figure out why when the trimmer head was tapped to the ground the line would "re-tract " rather than release more line. The head was assembled from the manufacturer backwards. The "quick" line install would only turn CCW but not CW as the manual instructs. I removed the head, took out brass nut and turned plastic gear upside down and now it works. Line will now quick install and will now release more line when tapped to ground. Frustrated that had to waste 3 hours but at least it now works. I suspect mine is not the only one with head assembly defect. Hope this helps someone with similar issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from you get what you pay for. I couldn't believe how fast I was cutting down the weeds and tall grass. This model has a plenty of power. I read some of the reviews about it going through a lot of line, that wasn't the case for me, in an hour of trimming I was only aware of bumping out line 4 times. It started easy and ran smooth. I bought the grade of gas that was recommended and added Sta-Bil. With the 5 year warranty I'm looking forward to using this for a long time. I've had 3 different gas trimmers that I paid less than $100 each for and I didn't get a total of 6 years out of. If you're looking for a well built and easy to use gas trimmer, this is it. Don't hesitate to purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbeatable Tool ! This is my second Echo product; the first was a blower in 2010. If anything, this trimmer is better than the blower - and that is saying a LOT! I could not be more pleased with this tool, having waited 4 months to write this review. It starts quite easily - actually, one pull on "Full choke," then move the lever to "No choke" - and away we go - and always on the very next pull of the cord! The only thing getting used to is the weight - it is heavier than the previous $99 blower I had. But one quickly adapts to that. Echo products cost a bit more and being retired I watch the pennies - but they are certainly worth it - I am a convert!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pro grade I was using another "consumer-grade" trimmer. It did the job but had it's annoying issues. THIS TRIMMER THOUGH. Starts right up, stays on, feeds easy, RELOADS INCREDIBLY QUICK AND EASY, takes .95 line, very powerful (I don't even need to have the throttle fully depressed to make clean cuts). I love this thing. When I'm done edging and trimming my lawn, I get bummed that I have no more use for it and just go hang it up in the shed haha. I stand a whopping 5'9" and find it to be comfortable. Little tip: the trimmer cuts way easier if you follow the direction of the arrow on the shield whenever you are cutting.
