This 2nd generation Li-ion cordless lawn mower has its pros: light enough to not need self-propu...

Sounds like you thought you would get an answer from an Echo company rep but you won't. Here was my experience with this mower: Worked well for three charges of the battery, left the mower out in a short rain shower and then the battery wouldn't charge again. Found that a replacement battery was $170.00 so I cut my losses and put it out with the trash. Hapless young woman picked it up and put it in her SUV. I own four Echo gas-powered yard tools and they are great. This battery-powered mower was a great disappointment. A $300.00 lesson learned!

Where are the batteries, charger, and mower manufactured?

I bought my Echo over two years ago. On all the Echo equipment that I have the stickers show made in China. Great product though. Great durability and power.

Can the battery be used in an echo blower?

Yes, works in all Echo 58 volt equipment. HOWEVER, do a search for replacement Echo batteries. These are the weak point and are no longer made. When your battery quits, you will have obsolete equipment. I have had every Echo battery tool for 5 years including 2 extra batteries, but when those die, my entire lawn equipment is trash.

Are there any plans for a Second Generation of your battery operated lawn mower line?

Nothing on the website. These are now 6 years old and battery life is obsolete.

The key seems to be a simple metal conductor for electricity. I don't think there is any "intelligence" behind them, though I could be wrong.

When will this item be back in stock? Is it discontinued or to be replaced with an updated model like the trimmer/blower

You have to order it online. They don't carry it in the store anymore. It looks like the same model. Check it out here. http://www.echocordless.com/products/lawn-mower/

i have a 58 volt echo weed eater and decided to give their lawnmower a try. both pieces of equipment work great. i love how quiet they run and how powerful they are. it is nice that the lawnmower easily folds up and sits on its end to take up less space. i am sure i could hang it up if i wanted as well. it was easy to use right out of the box. simply adjust the handle and pull out the mulching plug then hang the bag on the back. then you are ready to run. the battery came half charged but i already had a fully charged one from my weedeater so i used that for the first mow.

Two years of ownership, I'm a believer!
After hurting my shoulder in a fall, pulling starter cables was a pain. (Literally.) I decided to go all in on cordless yard care. I had great service with Echo's two stroke line over the years, I figured that I'd check into their cordless products. I bought the mower, line trimmer and leaf blower in the spring of 2017 and love all three. Ease of use, run time and build quality are great. I'm going to buy a matching hedge trimmer this year.

I have owned this mower well over two years. This mower replaced a gasoline mower with a 6 1/2 hp Briggs & Stratton engine . I didn't notice any loss of power when going electric. I have mowed the grass when it was very tall and wet. The mower automatically ramps up to speed when it's under a load. Only occasionally would I have to slow down my walking pace when the grass was extremely deep and wet. I would probably have said the same thing about my old gas mower. Mowing takes about 45 minutes under normal circumstances. Usually I have between one quarter and one half battery left when I'm finished. I bought an echo 58 V string trimmer, because I wanted an electric trimmer and extra battery. I rarely need to borrow the battery from the trimmer. This review is not about the trimmer, but it might be useful to know that the trimmer is extremely powerful (but a little heavy). What I like about this mower is that it does a great job mulching. There are no lumps of grass left behind. It is very light so that you don't need a self-propelled feature. It's quiet so you can mow the grass while the neighbors are still sleeping. I don't have to leave gas around in my garage. I don't have any trouble starting it. It is pretty much maintenance-free. I have yet to sharpen the blade. It still seems pretty sharp. The last and and probably most important thing I like is the customer service. You can call them on the phone and they answer pretty quickly. You don't have to speak to someone in a foreign country who is reading from a computer screen. You actually can speak to someone who knows about their products. There are two very minor quirks with this mower. The first one is that you have to keep a good solid grip on the handles, or the mower will shut off on safety. You get used to it after a while especially when you're using only one arm to push it under a tree. The second issue is with the charger. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the batteries, but there is a minor quirk with the charger. If you don't let the battery cool off before trying to charge it, the charger will tell you that the battery is defective. It might be frustrating, having to wait several minutes, if you're trying to finish your lawn and you need quick recharge. I'm really surprised that Echo does not mention the cool down procedure on their website. I have seen other reviews saying that the mower was no good because the batteries were always going bad.

Bought this 2 months ago as I already had the Echo 58V chainsaw, hedge trimmer, blower, string trimmer, 2 chargers and 3 batteries. Loved it at first - light, smooth, and quiet. I was worried about it not being self-propelled, but it's so light that's not an issue. Weighs 51lbs, my gas mower weighed 107lbs. In fact I think it's less physical effort than it was wrangling my gas self-propelled mower around trees, corners, curbs, etc. I live in the Houston area, with thick St. Augustine grass. This mower has no issues cutting it, even when I miss a couple weeks and it gets really tall. I have a sprinkler system so my grass grows fast. Mulching, I can do the entire yard with one battery. Bagging, which it does very well, takes a battery and a half. But here's the problem. I knicked a tree root, and the mower started shaking and rattling like crazy, like it was out of balance. I checked the blade, no knicks, rotated freely. I measured the blade distance from the deck and it was consistent all around so it didn't think it was bent. So despite the noise and shaking I went back to mowing, and after a couple minutes it completely smoothed out! I was amazed. This happened again a couple weeks later. Very impressive - like it has self-balancing bearings or something. Then last week I didn't see a stake in the grass and hit it. Started the shaking/rattling thing again, but this time it didn't ever smooth out. Checked the blade, looks square and flat, doesn't appear to be bent or anything. But something's obviously amiss. Not sure if it's blade, or bearings, or motor shaft or something else. Took it back to Home Depot for service, they suggested I just return it and order a new one. Said it would take 4-8 weeks for service, but if I returned/re-ordered it would only take a few days. So I returned it but now the bare tool model is out of stock, and neither Home Depot nor Echo (I've called both) can tell me if/when it'll be in stock. Great mower in use, but I'm wondering about ordering another (if/when they are in stock), if it's that fragile. At least for me, the occasional blade hit is unavoidable, and it was never a problem with my gas mower. Will this mower need service every time I accidentally hit a tree root or landscape edging? Or did I maybe get a unit with bad or weak bearings? I don't know and had a call with Echo Technical support that did not help answer the question.

Quiet and powerful! light weight and easy to move around. i can mow my .4 acre lawn with 1/2 charge. i would have given 5 stars however the packaging requires improvement. there is not support under the mower and it comes in a single walled box. i received 2 units that were damaged/missing pieces from the box being dropped. HD was nice and easy to work with to get this resolved.

This Echo mower/battery/charger package I bought in 2016 is still going great. It's 2018 now. Summers starting and already had to mow the yard, front/back, twice. During this 3rd year I wanted to see if battery is still as strong as was at first, so far, still fine! Can do whole back yard and some of front, or whole front yard and most of back on 1 full charge. If I intend to do both back AND front yards, one after the other, I would have to recharge my one battery for the 1 hour somewhere in between as it cant do my particular front AND back yard on one full charge. I don't care though. It's freakin HOT is SC in the summer and I love the 1 hr break! Anyway, mower is easier to use than all of the self propelled mowers I've ever owned, all my life(i'm 50!). I don't even want another self prop! Not now. I love the Echo, so far. Starting 3rd year and have just been waiting for something to happen with it before I reviewed it, just anything to go wrong, even something little, but nah, there's nothing. Not yet anyway. Nothing wrong, still identical as year 1. My yard in front is smaller than the back, back is pretty good sized, front is average size. I'd say the house is on a half acre. I think this mower is more commercial than residential, it is built to last, I think these are more of a commercial type mower for a residential home owner. It's a good deal, imo of course. I tried another cordless mower, wasn't good as these are. Echo's mower/batt/charger is excellent! I gave 4 stars for 1 reason only, the cost of a 2nd battery! I'd buy a 2nd battery but I'm too cheap to pay the $169 dollars for it! Sorry Echo. I'll wait till price comes down on the batteries. They should, one day, right? And don't forget, if this mower or battery does have a problem during the 5 yr warranty, you're getting new anyway. It's cheaper than gas mowing too! You can talk or even have a whole conversation with someone without YELLING at 'em anymore! The 1 thing I would change on a gas mower(if I could change only 1)is how LOUD they are!! Hate it! And somehow mower KNOWS when I go over dirt so it dont make dirt clouds form up, pop up like you're a magician and all of the sudden you're supposed to do a disappearing magic trick or something! You know, those giant, thick, dusty, dirt clouds, the ones that stick all over you immediately, like right away, because you're sweating so much in the SC heat! Love that "smart" feature alone. Also, the motor revs up & down by itself as needed! If you're in smaller grass, it revs down more. When it detects taller, thicker grass, it revs up more! How? I dont know. But I dont care! I love it! It's light, I mean too light almost, made me think it was not even close to anything solid or going to last or any good because I had this old school thinking going on. The mind set that something like a mower needed to be heavier to be "solid", to last, I guess. Wrong! See any other 5 year warranties on those heavy, LOUD, maintenance addicted cloud makers?? Something this easy to push is dream come true for people that have been mowing their yards for decades! This mower is certainly worth the money, it's just hard for people to pay it...I guess? I'm glad I paid whatever is supposedly "extra" for this Echo over some lower cost mower that's going to HAVE to have money put into it each year for gas, oil, filter, maintenance, pull strings, etc, etc, etc, etc, every single year, sometimes through the entire mowing season! And after a while it gets sooo bad you got to replace it and pay for new one, all over again! No money's been put into this Echo mower in almost 3 years! I mean, NONE. I mean, I haven't paid a dollar yet, for anything, for the mower(yet). Maybe I'll have to? One day? I guess? Maybe? I don't know, haven't had to yet. Oh, and it's SWEET too to have been able to use that saved cash for my new air compressor! Yea, I use it to blow the mower off every now and then after using it! There's no smoke, no LOUD, not even close to heavy, simple to maneuver, not bad for the enviroment! Gas drinking(so you always got to the store with your "jug", or container, or whatever we want to nickname it!) junk mowers wont fold up and hang in a shed, either. And gas mowers will rust out, wont start with ONE push of only 1 button, they're always dirty, oily, nasty, costly, heavy, smoke, rust out, get all greasy, ugly after a year, they're soooo LOUD, oh, and did I mention LOUD??

Very pricey but worth it. Initial charge takes a bit but swt up was a breeze. The machine is very light and cuts nicely. The ability to cut close was a selling point for me and my bermuda lawn. Not quiet but not nearly as loud as a gas mower. Haven't spent a dime on gas and haven't had to mess with a cord!

Have only used the mower twice in August but it worked very well. Run time about 40 minutes. Our lawn is not very lush and even more so in August. Am very happy with the 21" cutting width and mulching capability. Fast recharge time on the battery. Nice handling and cutting mower without the noise, fumes and pull starting required with a gas mower.

This is a great mower! To be more specific, it is quite compared to gas powered, Has as much power if not more than my old 5HP Gas mower, and I can do the front and back yard and only was 1/4 of the battery. The wheels have individual height adjustment but that's not a problem to me, it makes a cleaner cut probably due to a sharp blade but the only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is just one little thing that bothers me, when powering up the mower (for safety) you have to push a button, then pull in the hand lever, (no big deal) but if at any time you hand releases the lever just a tiny bit the mover will stop, even if you squeeze the lever right away. So you have to push the button again and pull in the lever to start again. It's just a little inconvenience.

I did a lot of research before on the mower and more then most of it was positive so I bought it. I was worried about it not being self propelled because I have some steep hills but it's so light that it is very maneuverable and doesn't need it at all. I cut my grass it was about 8 inches high and it went through it with no problem at all. It also didn't leave some of the grass with high spots like my gas mower did. I am very happy with the mower so I ordered the string trimmer and bought the blower.
