I am a seasoned land care type person, I have and use, chainsaws, weed whackers, hedge trimmers, lawn mowers and diesel tractors small to large, so I know tools pretty well, also fix and maintain them all. A couple of observations after the first use of my Echo 58V electric hedge trimmer, by the way I also have the gas version. The electric I thought would be lighter, it is the same as the gas version with the battery installed. I think big brother has made Echo add one too many safety interlocks, two. The gas version in both the trimmer and the Echo weed whacker which I bought first, has a slower than expected RPM pickup delay, the gas actually seems to hit working RPM faster, this surprised me. I share one battery and charger between both tools. Both tools have excellent life from the battery. I am finally charging the battery after the initial charge from the beginning of the season. When I used the battery on the new hedge trimmer for the first time today, it had half a charge remaining, when done, probably a good thirty minutes later it had one quarter charge remaining. I trimmed two five foot wide flat top ever greens and six rounded by me box woods. The whacker is also used on my 1.01 acre lot with walls, lamp posts, foundations and tree's, I whack usually every other week. The battery lasts forever. It is a pleasure not having fumes in my lungs, nose, cloths and in the air, and the quietness is a real pleasure, no ear protection required. Plus no spilling of two stroke fuel and fiddling around with plugs, carburetors, primers and pull cords. Both tools performs very well, it is just the RPM delay I am not use to, perhaps if I hadn't used the gas versions, I would not find the delay unnerving, but I was raised on gas. I do have another smaller 20V weed whacker by another mfg'r and it does not have the delay, though it is constructed a lot different and a lot lighter duty. I must also add I have the chain saw attachment and shaft extender for the whacker, and I was shocked by the reach and ability to cut through six inch oak branches a good 15 to 18 ft off the ground. I was very pleased with this attachment, though with the extender, it is a handful to operate, I am sure the gas version would be the same. Electric is quite convenient, I do like it a lot and am glad I have switched!

i bought this new echo 24 in. 58-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Hedge Trimmer about a week ...
i bought this new echo 24 in. 58-Volt Lithium-Ion Brushless Cordless Hedge Trimmer about a week ago and put to the test on some ferns mixed with small oak tree,Bougainvillea, jasmine, gardenia, Brazilian cherry bush, and this other green and yellow plant i don't know what its called and a hedge, and it whent through them with a eas.i dident even use a full bar on the battery never experience ajam ,still had a full charge on the lithium battery afterward, the pros are it cuts Up to 3/4 in. cut capacity for thick branches, its large 24 in. dual action blades for extended reach other have 20 or 22 blade, and of course lithium ion battery with Brushless motor for superior power, run time and durability, cons are as you read it is a little on the heavey side but what can you expect from battery and power you get out of it and of course the throttle and safety switches are a little akward but just have to get use to it i let go of the handle a few time by accident and it stop its that easy to stop it with out trying to.alot of people have had problem with charger and battery being defective ive not experience that yet since ive had not depleted the battery yet hopefully wont. unpacking the battery it came with a bar of charge on it .put it in the charger and it completed the charging under 30 minute so that fast .the 2ah battery is what it come standed with i don't think i will need 4ah battery but that should double my run time and make it even more heavey, the 2ah battery for now meets my needs but its nice i have the option with the 4ah battery and doubling my run time, i was a little skeptical at first about this product knowing One World Technologies made the 58 volt system for echo which also make Ryobi and homelight which are know to be cheaply and junkie so my thought were more cheaply junk like the Ryobi and homelight, echo prove me wrong and really hited it out the park with a 5 year consumer warranty and a 2 year commericial warranty,i got a little pies of mind knowing its echo and echo warrant there product,it also has a greasable gear box so you can maintain it verse sending it in to be repair by a shop unlike other that aren't greasable and when they wear out you through them away, this one seems to be made very well just like the gas product echo are know for minus mixing gas smell fume and having to deal with the ethanol gas,it definitely has its pros and cons verse gas like you should not get it wet but i have found pros out way the cons when it comes to eas of useage and maintaince thow the battery are expensive to replace ,only time well tell how well the battery hold up and last but for know im very please with my purchase hope to be able later to try another echo 58 product but for now hedger trim definitely exceded my expection for a cordless battery product full power the whole way through and no gradal decreas and weaking like the old cordless product were knowed for and the run time has improve with the lithium battery i used to get maybe 10 minute or 15 not with the new lithium battery, would of took pic well using it but it require the usage of two hand to operate it so here a few pic umpacking it and some after using it. hope this help any skeptic about the new 58volt line from echo i am sure i will get plenty of year out of it like my gas echo. echo has 5 cordless product total so i got 4 other yet to try some time later, thanks echo and homedepot for providing us with these great product just what i needed cant wait to try other 58 volt product

Full size and High power
The first thing you notice about this hedge trimmer is its large size - a full 24" blade. Its overall built is quite substantial and you get the sense of quality and durability. No cord and no gas means less maintenance and ease of mobility. So simple to use: squeeze the trigger to turn on; release trigger to stop! At 58 volts this is one powerful tool as I found out with it zipping through my dwarf youpon hedge and my dwarf Nellie R Steven hollies. Their branches range from 1/8" to 1/4" and were no challenge to tackle. When you squeeze the handles to start, you notice it takes a second or two for it to hit full speed and then it runs at full throttle. It's much quieter than I expected especially with it being so powerful. I took off a star for "ease of use" due to it being a little heavy which limited my ability to hold it up over my head to cut the taller branches. Other than that, I can find no other faults with this great hedge trimmer.
The Echo 58-volt hedge trimmer is all about quality - from the precision ground blades to safety switches, a safety bar in the "bow" handle and a thumb switch just above the trigger. It is well balanced and quite powerful, once you get used to allowing a couple of seconds for the motor to come up to full speed. All in all, it does a good job - without being tethered by a cord or inhaling exhaust fumes.
With a whopping 58v of lithium ion battery power, this cordless hedge trimmer tackles the biggest of jobs. No more unrolling extension cords, dragging them around the garden, and rolling them back up afterwards.
I was able to trim a total of 12 large privet hedges located all around a 5,000 sq ft ranch house, on a single charge. Normally I have to use 3 different power outlets, with a 50 foot extension cord, but I accomplished this without any cords at all! The unit is about 2 to 3 lbs heavier than my corded electric trimmer, due to the battery, but this was easily compensated for by not having to pull an extension cord around the property. The lack of a need for a power cord also meant I could easily get the trimmer up on top of some 7ft tall privets without the cord getting tangled in them.
The controls are very intuitive, with the safety switch on the main handle and a trigger on the grip. Grab the handle and the grip, squeeze, and the trimmer springs to life.
Trimming 12 privates used to take about an hour, it took just 35 minutes with this cordless trimmer. MY time is valuable, and this trimmer will pay for itself in the amount of time it saves.
As Powerful As a Gas Hedge Trimmer, 5 Year Warranty, Long Runtime, 24" Trimmer Bar
This new 58 volt cordless hedge trimmer by Echo is simply the best.
We all know Echo makes great gas powered outdoor tools, and now they have added 58 volt cordless tools to the line.
If you were looking to get rid of your gas power outdoor lawn equipment, you can't go wrong with this line from Echo.
Out of the box assembly takes less than 5 minutes. You have to take the blade guard off, charge the battery and begin working. That's it.
Charging the included 2 amp hour battery takes about 30 minutes with the Echo computerized charger. The charger can be left on a table, or wall mounted for convenience, it has lights to tell you when your charge in complete and if the battery is up to snuff or if it's defective. The battery has a four light power gauge letting you know when you need a charge.
The throttle is single speed, ensuring you're always at the correct speed for clean cutting of branches and leaves. If it had a low speed you run the risk of tearing branches and jamming the cutter head. A single speed unit like this is best.
The trimmer head is a big 24 inches long, letting you get a straight edge on even the biggest hedges. It can cut branches up to 3/4" thick and went through the 1/4 inch gnarly branches on our lilac bush like a hot knife through butter. Being electric I can use it at ANY angle and not worry about the motor quitting or dripping gas out the cap when going sideways down a shrub or using it on a ladder. I love that.
Maintenance can be performed by the user. From oiling the cutter head blades daily with machine oil, and also greasing the large gear box using the access hole.
The entire assembly feels well built, with no cheap gimmicky feeling like many electric outdoor tools have. Every area that should be reinforced with metal is.
This machine has plenty of power for trimming all types of hedges and the 2 amp hour battery lasts nearly as long as a tank of fuel on a gas hedge trimmer. It matches the power output of any gas trimmer in the 24 inch size, maybe even better since electric is instant power and very high torque, not to mention far more quiet.
It feels well balanced in the hands, not overly heavy and I like that I can do all the maintenance myself.
Echo gives this a five year warranty for home users and a two year warranty for commercial/pro use. Outstanding.
I think this new line of 58 volts tools is top notch and I'm glad I have them. I may honestly never have to use my corded trimmer again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this for our commercial lawn service company last year. We are trying to go with a quieter and less maintenance type of machine over our existing gas machines. It does the job great. The batteries last forever on this machine. Our crew recently trimmed 30-40 shrubs with one 4ah battery.
